How to post good cards/Custom Card Threads.

I've been a lot more active around the custom cards section of the site. You might have seen me using my "Calculator" to grade custom cards. While it is not technically a calculator, because I actually read the effects and look at the artwork(s) and grade the cards from there, I might as well post how it works, and how to post cards well.

Invalid Arguement's *Un*Official Custom Card Calculator!

+'s ( Bonuses )

+: Good Official Card Grammar(+1 For each card. - 0.1 For each mistake; rounded DOWN.)

+: Nice artwork and good editing(+1.5 For each card.)

+: Nice topic layout(Don't burn my eyes. I value them dearly.)

About the "Newbie Bonus":

The Newbie bonus is a instant +2 for anyone with lower than 50 Post count, or posting their First, Second or third card/Sets. You are not born with Skill. The newbie bonus is simply there to make you feel like you don't absolutely suck at card making so that you stop. Because, I actually like rating custom cards. Members with 51+ posts will not receive the +2 bonus, as you can probably take criticism better.

-'s ( Penalties)

-: Bad Official Card Grammar

-: Images from Google

-: Not using IMG Tags(-5 for each card I see without a IMG tag.)

-: "OMG MY KARDZ R PRFCT!!! Y U RAT DEM BAD?" Behaviour(- 9000 from your entire topic if I see this.)

-: Trolling on other's posts.

-: Bad Card Making History(Believe it or believe it not; I keep logs of what I rated your cards. Continually posting awful stuff will make me get tired and probably Ignore something good.)

-:Plagiarism Of Images( - 1,000,000 )

-:Joke cards not in the joke card thread. ( - 1 from your next topic for each card )

How to use Image Tags:

#1: After finishing your card, click on it.

#2: Copy(CTRL+C) it to your clipboard and start a new topic.

#3:Paste(CTRL+V) to post it. Click Preview post and your card should appear.

#4: If your card has a long lore, copy and paste it below your card in a spoiler titled "Lore." Several browsers have a zoom-in feature, but I shouldn't need to magnify the page to 1500% to read your card. Or anyone else for that matter.

Official Card Grammar:

Read this thread:Commonly Used OCG Phrases, If you still need help after that, read some YGO cards you have. If you STILL need help after that, post here and I'll see if I can find anything on the YGOWiki. If you still need help after that I will rip your head off and shove it through your postbox Go look on the YGOWiki yourself.

For Instance, You'll get a -1 For OCG if you type this as a card effect:

"All Monsters go boom when this card is played."

But you'll get a +1 for:

"Destroy all monsters on the field."

In short, the more your card sounds like the real YGO cards, the more likely you are to get a +1 on the calculator for it. I have a real pet peeve when people get the entire OCG right for 1/2 of the card, then make some stupid mistake that could've been avoided. Such as:

"If you control a "Mechanical Fiend" monster other than "Mechanical Fiend Zumbera" you can Special Summon this card from your Deck. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, all monsters on the field are destroyed and sent to RFP."

The way to fix this card would be(Correct me if I am wrong):

"If you control a "Mechanical Fiend" monster other than "Mechanical Fiend Zumbera" you can Special Summon this card from your Deck. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, all monsters on the field are Removed From Play."

While I'm dragging this section on far too long, I'd like to bring up a card. Cyberdark Horn. This is the only card as of right now that reads "inflicts Piercing damage." Because no other card uses it, I refer to it as a misprint and Incorrect OCG. All other piercing effects use this:

"During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent." Please, don't make this mistake. It's annoying.

Image Plagiarism

What is plagiarism? Well, to describe it in a nutshell: Claiming something as yours that isn't.

Meet Bob : (^_^) Bob Is a Aspiring card maker, and is making a new card. He wants this card to be graded well, so he googles something appropriate for his card's artwork. 64 Pages later, he finds a artwork he really likes. and uses it. He then posts this topic.

"Hey guys! This is my new card! I made everything in this card! Yes, even that amazing artwork!

[Card Here]

What do you think, grade it on 1/10!"

What do I class as plagiarism? Well...It's not complicated. I think using "My" anywhere in the post means you are claiming Ownership of the card. If you don't own the image, simply don't claim it as yours. If you know the artist, give them credit. It shows respect to the original person who made the artwork. If you OWN the Image, it's perfectly okay to claim it as yours, because you drew it/painted it/used your lazer eyes to draw it whatever. It really makes me angry when I find someone has used a image from Google and claimed it as their own. Yes, It's easy to make the mistake. I've probably made the mistake myself in the past.

Inappropriate Cards

Yes. This a YCM rule, no "Inappropriate" cards. While you may find a dirty joke funny, not everyone will and It might offend them(Read: Sexism) this also includes Inappropriate naming. Calling your card something rude is one thing, Giving it a rude artwork is another. Please, you'll make me choke on my breakfast if I see any more rude cards. EVER. I usually avoid posting on these topics, and I suggest you do the same. Bumping it up to the first page only exposes more people to the Inappropriate material.

SPELL CHECK YOUR DARN POSTS!

Please. SPELL CHECK YOUR POSTS. You have a word processing program on the computer you have, Use it. It is eye burning when you post

"K HRE R MY NW KARD! RAT IT ON 1 2 10!"

Don't troll other people's post to make yourself feel better over a ranking/card grading.

Instead of Card Posting; I'm concentrating on Forum Manners here. Yes, the internet is full of trolls lurking under bridges. How to avoid becoming one yourself(Read: Fail Troll) is to post with Manners.

I.e:

"OMFG UR MOM IS SO DUMB SHE HAS A IQ OF -0.1!!!!!! U MAD BRO!!!!!!????" = Epic Failure Troll.

If you want to see GOOD trolling, head on over to TCG and post a thread about Sparks, Snapesnatch or any other terrible card.(Read: Epic Troll)

A good way to not be a troll is to avoid posting with "Your Mom" jokes, full caps lock and once again, posting in a calm manner. Forums can turn very unruly if completely run by trolls.

Overpowered or Underpowered?

A card that reads "You win the duel." would make the meta-game so broken it'd be untrue, the entire game would become "Who drawn it first?" while Yu-Gi-Oh! Is mostly about the heart of the cards luck, there are ways to make your cards better. Read the YGOwiki article about Overpowered and Underpowered cards, and see if you get the hang of what I mean. Make your cards usable. But not abusive.

Closing Notes;

I'll update this as I see more common mistakes around the Custom Cards forum, I'll try to keep it regularly bumped so people can read this. Feel free to add your own suggestions to this thread, I've probably repeated several things around the website, and most of this is common sense. But not EVERYONE has common sense.

To be honest, if it were to get Stickied in this thread, it would be best. A newbie's not really going to go looking in the Tutorials first. However, with it in Realistic Cards, more of them are going to notice it, so overall I believe it'd be most helpful here. Really good guide for what it is, could probably provide the examples you hint, or even a link, otherwise I'd say this deserves being stickied.

The problem with that is? Almost all of this is posted in the Realistic Cards Rules. Literally and in a far more condensed form. The only thing it's missing is the standard opinion of most people in CC. Which is entirely irrelevant. Topic Locked, if they want the helpful parts of this just read whats already in The Rules (feel free to PM me if you can prove it otherwise).
