The Royal Wedding 29/4/11

I'm English, and i really couldn't care less. It's just a wedding, just like my mum's and dad's. People didn't flock to see that. I hate the idea of people being famous because of what fammily they were born into. The royal fammily is a tourist attraction. nothing more. Soon they will be gone, forgotten.

Rant Over.

Economists estimate that it will cost the UK billions (in taxpayer's money and business output). The monarchy is not a good thing anyway, all they do is guzzle taxpayer's money and have power just because they are born into it. That's not fair.

EDIT: Though admittedly, Kate looked fabulous in that dress.

I disagree. There were a lot of people that traveled to the UK just to see that marriage. That's a huge boost for the economy. All those people slept in hotels, ate in restaurants and went to London by aircraft or train.

Brendan, you have to know what having a monarchy can do to a country. There have been countless issues with having a monarch. Also having royal hereditary rule is ridiculous. Let some smart civilians take over for a while.

Ah, but remember for our country the monarch has no real power. I was trying to remember which cartoon that was demostrated.

Well with the monarchy part having no power, that adds on how the wedding isn't that special.

But the question is, if Mr. Prime Minister X married Miss X, would it also be made a fuss about?

That's a funny thing, many people (including people I know) are so busy stage-managing themselves like the most democratic, progressive, oh so liberated people, yet seem obsessed with monarchy and the most un-democratic systems, present or past.
Just a funny thing I noticed.

Anyway I didn't follow the wedding myself but I like looking at the hats and dresses people wore afterwards =D

1) In know what a monarchy can do to a country.
2) I agree.
3) 1. Most monarchs have no power, nowadays.
2. I agree, but there are some "smart" civilians that done the same to their country as monarchs.

I was just pointing out the advantages of such a wedding. And I know it's overhyped.
