Master White
Please be Serious and Don't State 5 worded sentences saying something stupid or illogical to the extent of these questions. Thanks... Well, of course I know this is not possible in our Life Time, but later on in someone's else's Life Time it might be..... So, the questions are these..... 1st: What would happen if we had 2 moons of the sam exact size, but one is on the opposite side orbiting around us. Like the 2 moon was in synch with the first one and they both didn't get out of synch.....Would we be thrown into an Ice Age? 2nd: A. If another planet the same size of this one moved into our orbit but it just started orbiting around us, what would happen? B. Now lets say this same planet had a Global Magnetic Field 5 times bigger than ours and started orbiting earth, but the planet itself remained the same size...... I'm not sure how many smart science people is on here, but I would like you all to think about it and give detailed responses, thank you..... --- EDITED: Updated questions for better understanding at 4th post..... Βyakuya
I may not be in an advanced science range, but I'll try my best to share my knowledge. 1rst: I'm guessing it would cause a widespread ice age, but one thing to ask, where, in the orbit? It's not like the moon can crash into another moon. 2nd: I'm not sure how possible that is. How can a planet the same size as us orbit Earth with the higher gravitational pull? It must be the mass or material the core contains. One thing's for sure, there will be many occurring storms, the tides will occasionally rise to a peak, and other things. Or even impossible, the impact of the force of the other planet will cause the gravity of this planet to grow. Even more, Earth may lose it's position and sovereignty and may rotate a close orbit to the planet if the planet really has that much mass. In conclusion, I can;t really explain, but questions are kinda vague to give an exact answer, such as what mass and materials these planets contain, or what stability those planets have, and so and so. I'll let the further geniuses step in.
Hunter.
2nd question. I think the explanation would be that Earth would be sucked into an electromagnetic field, destroying our magnetic stuff and maybe causing destruction. not a lot of people know, and they keep it to themselves, so i'm guessing. scientifically.
A: Without reading B, one must ask what the new planet's gravitational pull is compared to ours. If you tell me that, I will give you a better answer. B: I'm thinking more powerful storms, things going out of sync, stuff like that. Eh, someone else might be able to answer B better than I did. I do better with gravity than magnetic fields. Master White
To tell you all the truth, I didn't expect any great and wonderful answers, so I appreciate you taking time to read and being serious..... Okay, here, better understanding I hope... 1: If the 2nd moon was the exact sam size as our (Original) moon, but was orbiting the same direction on the opposite end, what would happen....Like yugioh cards having similiar effects making them synched. 2nd: A. If another planet the same size of this one moved into our orbit but it just started orbiting around us, what would happen? Whatever gravitational pull that would make it just orbit our planet, the same or less I'd think. B. Now lets say this same planet had a Global Magnetic Field 5 times bigger than ours and started orbiting earth, but the planet itself remained the same size...... Dwarven King
A: Hmm...I think both planets would somehow or another orbit each other. It would be like both planets were put on a circular track on opposite ends and traveled in the same direction. However, the surface of our planet would be screwed. The moon's gravity causes waves in our ocean (read that somewhere). Now realize the moon's gravity is nothing compared to ours. So if a planet with as much gravity as ours started orbiting us, we could very well start seeing tsunamis everyday, all day. And, if the new planet has considerably less gravity, or considerably more gravity, we could be looking at a possible collision. Depending on how close the new planet gets to ours. Flinsbon
1st: 2 main effects- 1. High tide would be higher and low tide would be lower 2. The center of gravity of the system containing the Earth and both moons would shift to the center of the Earth, thereby slightly altering our orbit. (The Earth itself does not follow an actual orbital path - the center of gravity of the Earth and the Moon does.) 2 minor effects- 1. We would usually see 2 moons at night. We'd only see 1 when 1 moon is a full moon and the other is a new moon. 2. We'd have to come up with better names than "The Moon". 2nd: 1. Again, the orbit around the Sun would change so that the orbit is based on the center of mass - in this case, right between both planets. 2. The Moon would be unable to handle the intense gravity of two planets and would either be crushed or fall into one of the planets (or both) 3. Days and nights would change length in a complex pattern. 4. The day/night skies would often involve a planet. 5. There would be an excessive number of earthquakes due to each planet's gravity squeezing the other (this happens to Jupiter's moons, too). 6. Tides would be way extreme. 7. Your weight would change depending on the position of the other planet and your position on Earth. Ex you would feel lighter if you were at a position where the other planet is directly above you in the sky. 8. The height of the atmosphere would change significantly depending on where the other planet is. 9. Scientists would have to coin a new term: Binary Planet System. I'm sure there's more, but I think that's enough for 1 question 2nd B: 1. Electronics would have to be heavily modified and may not work as we know them. 2. I'm pretty sure we'd be more heavily shielded from the Sun's radiation and solar winds. 3. The auroras would probably look significantly different if they exist at all. .Corgi
1. The seas would be f***ed up. 2. If the Global Magnetic field is higher, does that mean it will slowly change direction to the nearest planet? Sorry if that counterquestion was weird, but I find Physics very hard. Mehmani
The chances of a planet the exact same size as us, no, the chances of a planet of any size spontaneously appearing next to us are so infinitesimal that no one has bothered (and rightly so) to work out what would actually happen. Well, what would happen wouldn't matter because we'd all die.

Cin
2B. If it had a stronger pull than the earth, it wouldn't orbit us, we'd orbit it. And if that happened it would depend on the speed of the orbits, if we orbited faster than it....well eventually we'd crash into it. (As is happening with Mars' larger moon Phobos' declining orbit and scars show that Mars has encountered it before.) Or it would end up pulling us into it. It would never orbit us. Dad is thinking that a new moon moved into orbit on the opposite side and moved the same direction and it was the same size, there would be no push and pull, no tides, dramatic changes and stuff.....
well first of all the 2 moons thing If I assume it is to the planet earth, its just not possible to have 2 moons on 2 different polar ends orbiting our planet the same distance from our plant, in a in-sync fashion. but lets just say our scientist are f***ed up in the future and the umbrella corporation decides to make a destructive planet annihilating weapon, that manages to create a very large mass out of dense material, in order to disrupt tides, create ice ages and put everyone in peril (LOL) what happens would be unpredictable and even scientist wouldn't know WTF is going on. the atom bomb back then was theorized that it was possible to blow a hole in the ocean and suck the ocean into that hole. so ice age, tides, land scape. All theory who knows maybe the earth might even rip in half on various fault lines under the earth. that main point shouldn't be, "what will happen and how do we survive it?" the main point should be "how do we stop it from happening?" that we can answer lets just not have any evil science geniuses for the next, forever and we'll be fine.
