Catman25
Ok so my wireless internet isn't working on 1 of our 2 laptops (meaning my router actually works). It says it's "Identifying" the network, meaning it's connected/can find the wireless network, but I can't get to the internet. We've tried system restores, and a bunch of other crap, but nothing. If anyone can provide a solution (in laymen's terms, I'm not an IT wiz), I'd appreciate it. inb4 google, I can't understand a single word the tech forums are saying. ._. Dark
Check that your laptop identifies the router with the security setting you are using, either WEP or WPA/WPA2. I know when my laptop couldn't connect to my router it was because my laptop had the router default set to WPA/WPA2 mode, when in reality it was in WEP mode to support my DS. If you haven't made any significant changes to your router in the past weeks, then this is probably your problem. There really isn't any other way laptops and routers can be "incompatible". 六兆年と一夜物語
If all else fails, go to Device Manager and uninstall the network driver on the computer. Then check for differences and the driver should reinstall.

Cin
What might be easier is if you go to, Network & Internet -> Manage Wireless Networks. If the network you usually connect to is showing as the wrong type of seurity it might be easier to delete the connection, then reconnect manually from the Network Connections icon on the far right of the Task Bar, enter the correct details and it will save automatically with the right information so no more problems should occur. I've had to mess around with my network connection and router settings repeatedly for Pokemon events. WEP is said to not be as secure as WPA security. Does the encryption type matter (TKIP/AES)? @Yin: [s]When I manually reconnect, I can't edit in any details, it just reconnects.[/s] Edit: JK, but still doesn't work. WEP is said to not be as secure as WPA security. Well, unless you have a hacker within like three houses of you, extra encryption isn't really needed. I only use WEP to support my DS, and it's not like WEP is no encryption. <___<
JadenxAtemYAOI
More than likely it is the drivers difference. Try installing the software that came with the router. I know it isn't likely but if your router is linksys or netgear it's a crap router with limited function.

Catman25
Meh we fixed it. Apparently Vista doesn't work well with WPA2, or so I was told , so we switched to WEP and everything worked. But we had to change everything else in the house to WEP. D: Thanks for the help though guys.
