MortalKombatSmoke
In honor of the soon-to-be released, Silent Hill: Downpour. I've decided to finish a Fan-Fic that I started about a year ago. So I'm almost done with it and will be releasing 1 chapter a week. So enjoy ^^ here's a prologue and chapter 1.
The town of Silent Hill… A town shrouded in mystery and tales of monsters, Gods and cults. Silent Hill is one of the greatest mysteries any man has ever tried to solve. Rumors spread about the adventure of Harold "Harry" Mason, traveling through a world of twisted evil and demons to find his daughter. The story of James Sunderland, a relative of the superintendent of Ashfield Heights Apartments, and how he explored Silent Hill in search of his Wife, Mary. The epic that was the adventure of Heather Mason, daughter of Harold Mason, and how she went to Silent Hill on a quest for revenge after a supposed, “Claudia” killed Harold Mason. The tale of how a Henry Townshend was trapped in his own apartment building and the end of the infamous Walter Sullivan case. Then there was the adventure of an escaped mental patient, Alex Shepherd, traveling to Silent Hill in search of his brother Joshua. Let’s not forget the legend of Travis Grady aiding the young girl known only as “Alessa”. A Reporter, and detective, Lucas Rosette, traveled to Silent Hill three weeks ago, he told no one outside his family and the son of Lucas, Jack. Lucas had been planning to make a trip to Silent Hill for months and now he had finally departed into the mysterious town. Months passed and he had not returned. Jack, age of 21 and watching his father’s house at the moment while his father journeyed through Silent Hill, grew weary of his father’s absence, he had not returned for months, he should’ve been back in a few weeks. Jack had tried calling his father but all he picked up was static, that’s when he decided that he had to go to Silent Hill, to see what had become of his father, and if his fate matched that of Harold, Heather, James, and all the others that were challenged by Silent Hill to survive its horrible wrath. This is where the story begins…

A thick fog covered the area surrounding Silent Hill as Jack Rosette, a detective like his father, was attempting to drive it the fog in a rather beat up and aged van. The fog seemed to be getting thicker and thicker as he drove from Ashfield, his Father’s hometown, to Silent Hill. It was likely below freezing temperatures outside, but it felt as though it was below zero. Jack drove faster as he passed a sign stating, “Silent Hill, 2 miles away”. Jack floored the gas pedal going at unsafe speeds through the fog. Suddenly, when a bridge came up, he didn’t see a turn and flipped over the bridge after hitting the edge, however, Jack had his messenger bag full of essentials on already and jumped out of the van, onto hard concrete before the van went overboard. His van crashed into the river, Jack looked over the edge of the bridge and swore under his breath, "s***..." He reached the other end of the small, concrete bridge and traversed down a, barely visible, rocky, hill that lead down to the river. He rushed and almost fell into the river, once he got to the bottom the fog suddenly became even thicker, to the point where he couldn't see his van at all. He walked a bit forward, stepping on some stones that extended out of the river. He jumped from stone to stone, going much farther that he believed he should have, until he reached the other side. "Did I just go through my van?" he asked himself as he turned around and jumped over to the opposite side, he felt confused, so he thought if he went back to the top of the bridge, he could get a better look. He re-climbed the rocky hill, that seemed even more unstable than before, and ran over to the bridge. He looked over the spot his van fell, however the fog was still thick, over that one spot. "The hell? This is weird... How is this even-" Jack the felt a shiver down his spine as he double checked the river from the bridge, the fog lightened and he could see the river clearly, except for the van. It had vanished, gone, Jack froze out of fear and took a few steps back, "These stories... they can't be true, can they?" Jack denied that his van just vanished, he knew that the Silent hill stories where just that, stories. However that's when he decided to move on, he had to make it to Silent Hill, one way or another. Jack began to walk through the freezing air in his dark orange winter jacket, his hood up and the black fake fur inside it. The hood covered the upper half of his face so all you could see was his five o’clock shadow and his mouth. His jacket had a black belt and it extended off the belt and split down the middle to make a short trench coat like appearance. He also wore brown work gloves since he had no winter gloves on hand at the time. His snow pants were black along with his boots, his boots were steel-toe working boots. Jack traveled further and further down the road, getting weaker from dehydration and slight hypothermia due to the cold. He felt woozy and dizzy, abruptly, Jack collapsed. He awoke some time later warmed up, inside someone’s car, he slowly turned his head to check out the situation he was in, there was an odd blond woman driving the car. “Hey back there! You awake yet?” The woman said in an optimistic tone. Jack grabbed his head and felt a surging pain, probably just an effect from passing out in the cold. “You know, I thought you were going to die out there, are you okay?” She asked, this time in a more concerned way. “Umm… Yeah, I’m fine.” Jack answered feeling a little shaky from his headache, but got over it. “I’m thankful that you saved me but who are you exactly?” he asked slowly rubbing his head back and forth with his right hand. “I’m Cheryl, Cheryl Mason. You?” Cheryl asked. “Cheryl!? The Cheryl Mason? How is this possible!? No... must be a coincidence... just to make sure...” Jack thought to himself before he answered Cheryl’s question, “Umm… I’m Jack, Jack Rosette.” He answered sitting up in the back seat. “I’m sorry but, you aren’t the same Cheryl Mason who traveled to Silent Hill a few years ago are you? The one formally known as Heather?” Jack inquired. “Do you know any other Cheryl/Heather Mason? Yes… That was me.” Cheryl answered depressingly, thinking about her father for a moment, “But that’s not important, where were you heading by foot anyway? Especially in this weather.” “Actually, I’m heading towards…” Jack became silent for a moment, thinking that if he told her, she wouldn’t take him there. “Silent Hill?” Cheryl inquired. “…” Jack stayed silent. He was still in shock from the idea that, the story was true. “I’ll take you there, just tell me why. Tell me why you would want to go to the living hell hole that is Silent Hill.” Cheryl asked. "Wait... first tell me something... is everything I've heard about Silent Hill true?" he asked concerned not only for his well being, but his mental state. "Unfortunately, yes... Silent Hill is the epitome of evil and horror." she responded. She then began to talk about what she saw in there, the monsters, the order, everything. Jack stayed silent as Cheryl told her story from a first person point of view. He sat back in his chair and became silent, his eyes widened and his body, stiff. "Look... You don't want to go there. It won't end well." Cheryl said turning her head for an instant to check on her new friend. He was obviously questioning whether or not to go, and he was clearly afraid. Cheryl then turned her head back to the road and asked "So... Back to my first question. You must have a rea-" Jack then interrupted before Cheryl could finish his sentence. “My father, he went there doing some research on the place but hasn’t returned for three months, so I decided to go after him. I'm worried... He's all I have since my mother died...” Jack responded, turning his head towards the window, starring at the thick fog outside the car. He thought about his dead mother, and his father. The idea of loosing his father frightened him, even more than going to Silent Hill and confronting these demons. “I, I understand what you must be going through. You must be terrified after what I've just told you..." Cheryl then stopped in the middle of the road and turned back to Jack, "But you can't stop. If you don't go after him you'll regret it the rest of your life. You have to go, but I'm not going to force you... Before you make a decision, you have to think... How much is your father worth to you? And are you willing to find him even if it might cost you your life?" she asked waiting for an answer. Jack looked up at her, he sighed and said, "He's everything to me. He saved me so many times and he always made sure I was happy. He gave me the life that I would've lost. He could've thrown me into some orphanage, after all mom was the one who brought in all the money, he couldn't afford to have me and I was so young... This is how I will repay him... I'll find him... And save him from this hell hole..." Jack suddenly grew some confidence and his face became serious. Cheryl smirked and nodded, "I’ll take you." she said as she drove on. After a few minutes she said, "Just promise me one thing.” she then stopped the car outside Paleville entrance, “Don’t make the same mistake I did. Don’t go farther than you should, and defiantly stay away from the order.” Cheryl said, assuming Jack knew what she was talking about. “The order…” Those words seemed to haunt Jack, he didn’t know why, the just, made his spine shake. Jack stepped out of the car and thanked Cheryl for the ride, and watched as Cheryl drove away, becoming engulfed in the fog. Jack then turned to the Paleville entrance, a huge wooden gate, as he stepped closer he began to sweat, knowing once he entered, there was no going back... He slowly opened the gate, entering Paleville.

Paleville, a curious place that caused a curious look on Jack's face. He slowly walked through the empty streets, streets filled with stores with toys, dresses, televisions, groceries, and more. Silent Hill used to be a lively community, but what happened? Rumor had it that the town was doomed since their old Jail shut down due to a plague. Which was around the time The Order was developed. Jack knew all of this from his father who got it from an old, beat book. He never told him where he got it but it had an odd symbol on it, just something he knew. Something he knew he saw somewhere. He knew that symbol by heart. As Jack traveled deeper into the core of Paleville, a gust of strong wind took his hood down, Jack’s dirty blond, short hair was open to the air and his hazel eyes staring out into the weakening fog, he kept on moving. As he began to walk he heard something in the distance, his father maybe? Jack ran around the corner of a building and heard the sound again, but this time it was more like a man screaming in deadly pain, the sound scared Jack and forced him to take a step back. He took a deep breath and slowly walked around the corner, looking into the alleyway, he saw nothing. Jack walked into the alley to examine further only to notice a dumpster and a horrid smell. Jack then walked deeper into the alley until he stopped dead in place, the rancid smell was that of a naked dead body, nailed to a brick wall above an underground entrance. The body was decaying and surrounded by flies, it wreaked with age. Jack stared at the body, he didn’t know why it just, kept his attention, then out of nowhere that same blood curdling scream came again and it became louder, the sound around him. Then a sharp pain entered Jack’s shoulders and was picked up by some sort of fleshy talons, he looked up to see a horrid pink creature with no face hanging from what resembled a noose, grabbing him by the shoulders, Jack yelled in pain, he leaned his head towards one of the beasts’ legs and bit down hard, it squealed in pain and dropped Jack to the ground as it faded into the wall, traveling by an invisible space at the end of the noose. Jack hit the ground hard, thankfully the beast got mostly his coat and didn't pierce into him too deep, but it still stung like hell. “Damn… I need a first Aid Kit or… something…” Jack then turned to the dumpster, it had a small bottle by it, he ran over and picked it up. He placed the label close to his face so he could read the small font in the fog, “Health… Drink?” He then began to read the description. “A Silent Hill exclusive, will cure anything that ills you or hurts. One hundred percent satisfaction guaranteed…” As he finished reading the label he scanned the bottle once more, “Well, bottoms up…” Jack unscrewed the top of the Health Drink and chugged it down, suddenly he seemed to feel a lot better, “Wow, That worked awfully fast, that’s weird… Only in Silent Hill… Only in Silent Hill.” Jack said to himself, throwing the Drink into the dumpster, Jack stopped in mid thought to see a giant red light, it was covering the exit to the Alley, “What the hell?” he put his glove covered hands against the light and touched it to see what it was, it burned him and he took a step back “Gah! What's going on!?” Jack asked to himself as the light wall began to expand in his direction. He ran back towards the pathway under the dead man and the light expanded quicker and quicker, the light almost caught up to him but Jack jumped into the pathway and rolled through the entrance, the light then covered up the entrance and the door behind him slammed shut, causing him to be trapped inside. Jack was panting as he had narrowly escaped a burning fate. “What the hell is going on here?” He turned around to see an almost pitch black hallway, with a few flickering lights and a single, brown door at the end. “Kind of hard to see, but I can manage…” Jack cautiously began to walk through the hall, the lights flickering on and off, on and off. There was a steady echo of a slowly dripping pipe that engulfed the hallway in its taunting sound, drip… drip… drip… As Jack reached the door, he slowly grabbed a hold of the old door knob, he turned it and it wouldn’t open. He twisted it the other way and then wiggled it around and even kicked the door but it was locked tight. “Great, I’m stuck now am I?” Jack thought looking around, “There has to be another way out.” He whispered as his echo engulfed the hallway over the dripping. He then began to walk back through the hallway when he heard another blood curdling scream, but this time it was that of a young boy, Jack turned around immediately and saw rust and blood flow from the edges of the door, it began to cover the walls and Jack tried to out run it, but he was stopped at the door behind the red light that blocked the only way out. It wasn't long before the rust and blood completely surrounded the room, “So… This is it? The curse of Silent Hill?” Jack had loved to hear the stories of Harry Mason and Travis Grady and others with their adventures in Silent Hill, but he never would’ve imagined experiencing it at first hand. He pressed his back against the door and slid down it slowly, until his butt hit the ground, he looked straight ahead, at the locked door down the hallway of the flickering lights. The dripping stopped and Jack was scared for himself, and what would become of him. Suddenly, another scream came from the other side of the door, Jack ignored it, he figured it was a mere taunting. Then it happened again and Jack wanted to ignore it. Then the scream came again, louder and slower. Jack listened closely this time, and it happened again, he tried to make it out, “H-Help?” Jack then stood up slowly and gradually headed towards the door, the “Help” yell became louder as he came closer, he grabbed the knob and turned it, this time it was unlocked. The screaming stopped, and Jack was frozen at the rusted door. He then reached into his messenger bag and pulled out a black pistol, “Just in case, I don’t want to run into that thing again unprepared.” He slowly turned the knob and opened the door, he could only see pitch black darkness…

All Jack could see was pitch black darkness, a room where not even the most trained eye could see in without a light source. Jack reached into his messenger bag, took out a flashlight and flicked it on. He walked forward cautiously, flashlight in the left hand, gun in the right. As he moved the flashlight around to examine the room, he learned he was in a square that divided off into three hallways. Each equally covered with blood and rust. “What kind of place is this? This is the Otherworld Cheryl told me of? Then I must’ve just been in the fog world… But, when did that happen? Is Cheryl trapped in the fog world too- is that why I could see her? but...” Jack stopped and tried focusing on the problem at hand. He tried to decide which hall to go through, that’s when he heard the blood curdling scream again coming from the hall to his left, he instinctively ran in the hall, looking for the poor soul. He sprinted around the corner, ignoring the few doors he passed, that’s when the screams stopped and a lone dog was facing a wall. It was skinny, really skinny, and had no fur, all that showed was pale brown skin. It was whining, slowly. Jack froze and it was still whining. He backed away slowly, slowly from the creature that resembled a dog, away from its tail that was made of nothing but bone, there was no skin or muscle, just bone. As he slowly walked back he stepped on a rat that squeaked loudly and died. The dog’s head turned towards Jack at the noise and revealed its head, all it was, was a dog skull, connected to the body by a few ligaments. It howled loudly and charged towards Jack, he stepped back and began to shoot randomly out of fear and killed the dog, beneath it was a puddle of blood. Jack quickly turned around and went back the way he came, running down the hallway, it was much longer than before, last time he was already at the dog, but now he hasn’t made it to the cross section yet, the hallway seemed to go on forever, suddenly a door became visible and Jack smashed through it, and when he did, something wrapped its arms around his neck and pulled him up, it felt like a slimy noose. Jack pulled his arms up to his neck and tried to break free. His legs were kicking as he tried to squirm his way out, air slowly left his body, he was choking and eventually got the arms to break apart as he fell to the ground. When he broke the arms apart, a loud screech came from the noose and he looked up to see a pink monkey-like thing with no head and a tail that was dissolved into the ceiling which it hung from, it threw itself into the ceiling and evaporated into it. Jack rubbed his neck and took deep breaths trying to get some air back in his lungs, he was sweating and fearing for his life now more than ever. “What-is-going-on!” he said catching breaths between each word. He slowly got up and pointed his flashlight at the door at the end of the new hallway he was in. “I need to get a different flashlight… A pistol in one hand and a flashlight in the other? In here I am going to need a free arm.” He said to himself walking through the hallway slowly. The eerie mood the hall was giving off, it just creped him out, he wanted to run but he didn’t want to attract any monsters. The last thing he needed was another one of those noose monkeys choking him. Jack slowly reached for the door knob as he approached the door and opened it wide, he exited the hallway and softly closed it. Jack found himself on a tall platform above what seemed to be a sewer, he walked to the edge of the platform and climbed down the red ladder at the end of it. He quickly turned around and shone his flashlight around the sewage tunnel before him. “God, this place is disgusting.” He said too himself walking carefully to his right over to the wall of the tunnel where a walk path was. “I got to find a way out of here, make it back to the surface, if only I had a map.” He spoke to himself walking along the walk path, flashlight out front and pistol at the ready. “How many bullets do I have left?” he thought arriving at a turn, he swerved around the corner and saw a piece of paper on the floor of the walk path a dozen or so feet away. “Huh…” Jack mumbled, gradually inching towards the paper, the floor was still covered in rust and blood, same as the walls. Suddenly something grabbed a hold of his foot from the sewage water, Jack gasped and looked down, he flinched and tugged his leg away and when the fleshy arm wouldn’t let go Jack shot at the thing in the water. It eventually released him, “Damn, what was that?” when he turned around to get the paper, something picked him up from behind and threw him back at the edge of the walk path almost in the water. Jack looked and only saw a grey humpback with wings, “What the hell!?” He yelled getting up and pointed his gun at the creature. He pulled the trigger on his pistol but nothing came out, “Damn it!” He yelled and tossed the pistol into his messenger bag. The creature then turned slowly towards Jack, the creature’s front became exposed, there was a giant fly head on the body, with veins covering its body, its slimy mouth was dripping goop and its eyes were scooped out. The thing had abnormally bulky arms and it screamed then charged at Jack, he backed away a bit and waited for the creature. The fly creature was a foot away from him and he rolled out of the corner into the other walk path, the fly then fell into the water and drowned. Jack then quickly ran around the corner and grabbed the paper, it was folded up. He then unfolded the paper to reveal a map of the Paleville sewers, and out of it fell a small golden square with an "S" engraved on it. Jack picked it up and placed it in his bag. “This’ll come in handy.” He said looking at the map with his flashlight. Jack turned around and walked back to the corner, he needed to get to the other side some how, he decided to go back to the platform where he could change sides without falling into the water. However once he began to walk back, a huge chunk of the walkway was missing. He couldn't go back so he had to find another way. He looked up to see one of those noose monkey’s hanging, it looked dead, blood was dripping from it’s neck and it’s arms where broke apart, “That gives me an idea…” he thought. It wasn’t hanging too high above him and Jack could barely make the jump, He got as far back from the corner as possible and ran as fast as he could. Jack then jumped off the edge and grabbed onto the monkey’s arms, he was panting when he heard the flesh of the monkey beginning to tear, Jack quickly swung back and forth to gain momentum and during one final swing, the Monkey’s arm broke off, “Damn!!!” He yelled, Jack hit his destination, hard and his back slammed against the sewer wall, He slowly got up and dusted himself off. Jack shone his flashlight down the right side of the sewer then back at the map, “According to this, the nearest exit should be close to here.” Jack said as he began to walk down the sewer walkway of Paleville. He turned to the left on a corner and began to walk deeper and deeper into the sewers, it was not a pleasant sight, nor smell. The place was left to rot for a decade at least and it smelt horrible. The water was full of algae and dead bodies. The deeper he went into the sewers, the putrid smell became worse. After a while of un-interrupted walking, something fell into the water, Jack turned around to see what it was but he didn’t see anything. Jack turned back around and, due to his nerves, began to walk faster through the sewers. As he ran, The light swerved from left to right with his arm. The sewer water to his right began bubbling, the sewer tunnels began to get hotter, to Jack it felt like a hundred degrees. He had to take his winter coat off, so he unzipped it while he was running, held his bag in one hand with his flashlight and threw off his coat, revealing his white under-shirt, into the water. It light afire and sunk into the boiling sewage. Jack ran faster as the place began to smell, it was horrid. The smell felt as though it was burning the inside of his nose. It made him want to puke but he had to move forward. After another minute he finally saw a ladder leading to the surface, however his flashlight went out, he had to be careful not to fall into the boiling water. He placed his back against the wall and shimmied over to the ladder. He couldn't see anything, somehow all of the light in the sewer was gone, except for the light coming from the surface from the man hole cover. However no matter how much he inched over to the ladder, the light didn't get any closer. He moved along a seemingly endless path were he never got any closer or farther. Jack then stopped and tried moving backwards instead. Somehow the light got closer as he moved away from it. He kept on walking away until he ran into the ladder. He grabbed onto the bars and began to climb up the rusted ladder up to the manhole cover. He used his right hand to push up the cover and pulled himself up tot he surface. He pulled himself up to a floor made of tiles, very old looking. Once he pulled his whole body up to the room he stood up and looked at the wall. The entire room was drenched in fresh blood that was streaming down the sides of the walls. Jack was thrown back by the blood and fell where the manhole was, however it was no longer there. The entire room was decorated like a chapel, but everything was blood drenched. On the floor the words "Unholy" were written in blood. There was an altar that a gutted corpse laid upon and cockroaches began swarming out of it. The cockroaches began swarming towards Jack, he got up and ran until he reached the other wall, there was no door to escape from. The disgusting insect surrounded him and began to engulf his body, slowly crawling into his mouth as he tried to fight them off. They ducked into his throat and crawled out of him through his ears and eye sockets... His body collapsed on the floor in a puddle of blood...
