Clair
We had some German exchange students this year, and they thought all Americans were fat, lazy, and rich. We proved them wrong. Now, I need to visit Australia...
Ghoulish
People at my school think that if you're Asian then you're automatically an otaku. People at my school think that if you're Asian then you're automatically a genius. And they find one of the... erm, dumber Asians and are shocked as hell. Like, jaw dropped and all. Stereotypes can often be correct in judging the majority of a large population, but some stereotypes like Australians riding kangaroos are just so stupid you question where they even came from.
Because nothing really seperates Australia from any where else other then some of the wildlife, so they associate the whole country basically living on it....sort of...I think the whole Steve Irwin (R.I.P) image portrayed Australia to be completly outback. And of course you have to factor in people being idiots.
King of Nothing
Aren't most Australians British, or decendents of the British (by that I mean the ones that aren't native). It is sad that most people don't know a thing about Australia. Whenever I do an Australian accent I have to throw in a "mate" every now and then or people will say it's a British one... Identical accents are identical

It'd be like if an accent to you sounded sans like the American accent, with no real upward or downward inflection. To me I'd be able to tell the difference, but it may be a bit harder for you. I had an australian friend who said mate all the time. And I mean all. the. time. I think he was trolling, though.

I don't know what part of the country you come from, or who you listen to, but mate is definitely commonly-used. About 80% of Australians describe themselves of Australian (non-Indigenous) descent or British descent. The other 20% is made up of Indigenous people or immigrants from non-British countries, mainly Western Europe and Asia.

I personally hold New Zealanders in higher regard that most other English-speaking peoples, and due to the strong historic relationship between Australia and New Zealand I'm sure many people think the same.
