It's a very serene piece with a hidden element of forboding, the conflict within it makes it very striking and I am humbled by the lone figure at the centre.

I was very impressed by this, nice job.

Was I wrong to laugh when reading this?

And again, it's hard to cnc your work because i do not know enough about the particular style and the amount of effort that went into this.

Only thing i can say though, try to make it so it's a bit easier on the eyes.

No, although I can't tell if it's sarcasm or not. D|

Around 3 hours of work yesterday, 15 pieces of individual stock and lots o' textures?

And I'll try to darken it a bit.

Pretty good actually. Although, the blending and transition of the stocks need work. The flowers on the right side still have their baclground edges shown, you might wanna spend some time rendering them. A better idea would be to add more of those black buildings on the bottom, just to give a more realistic effect.

...*bit late here but whatevs*

The flowers weren't a render - they were actually a part of a texture with a blending effect on them. There in fact aren't any renders in this. :D (The wooden background was the background of the skin, which I had to incorporate in there somehow.)

However, now that you point it out, the lower-right is rather empty. ;3;
