Voting for the sake of Voting

I was watching South Park where Stan refuses to vote on a new mascot, and I remembered the times I've hear people say that we were given the right to vote, so we should do it. What about people like me? I don't watch political debates or research the candidates for anything, so I don't know what anybody is fighting for. Should I vote blindly because I can? Or should I just stay away from the polls because I don't know anything other who's running?

What does YCM think?

I stopped here.

OT: Don't do it if you don't want to, if you don't have the slightest idea in either of the canidates, you could choose the guy that causes the appocolypse.

Me and my sister decided not to vote on the EU elections because we didn't know what the candidates would do on the part of the UK. I did vote in the local counsel elections after researching the candidates. I like to be informed.

So its really upto you.

Don't vote and you relinquish the right to complain about anything.

A "Oh I don't like what this government does, I've never liked them..."

B "Oh you voted for the other party then?"

A "No I didn't vote at all..."

B "Well it's your own fault they're in power then."

You know what's funny? Even if I do think they're running the country badly, I don't really complain because I doubt I'd be able to do it any better, considering I can barely decide what to have for lunch.

voting doesn't work, we had 3 options my family voted labour and now we actually have both of the other candidates running the country, BOTH OF THEM FOR CHRIST SAKE, and now they have screwed over every single person in the country except the illegal immagrants.

Current system has flaws, but is better than alternative vote.

Illegal immigrants and jobseekers who have no intention of working always seem to do well...

I put it to the right honourable gentleman that by passing this motion in favour of ham sandwiches, that you are clearly discriminating against egg on toast!

To be honest, being Prime Minister/President is a pretty thankless task, you're always going to upset loads of people. I sympathise for Cameron and Obama because most of their tenure has been spent clearing up the previous regimes mess.

if god had wanted us to vote, then he would of let us communicate telepathically.

there's so much failtroll here, I don't even know where to begin.

Anyway I think that voting should be highly encouraged but not enforced.

The general jobseekers aren't doing so well though Bahamut. (I've been looking 2 1/2 years, my dad about the same (he's had temp, but nothing perm))

If you don't vote, as long as you don't complain then it's alright.

Remember that guy who wanted to like stop global warming or something? What ever happened to him...

Not that I really believe that liberals will ever truly reform anything with all their preachy idealistic bull, but sometimes things don't always turn out the way you want to. Voting was originally only extended to land owners because they were supposedly the only people with a stake in society, but now voting's been extended to everyone that the power of any one group is diluted. What if your political agenda conflicts with those of another group? What if the other group gains influence and becomes endorsed while you're neglected. Where will your voices be then?

My point is that voting, although a very well-intentioned privilege extended by the government, only has so much real power. If McCain had won the presidency instead of Obama, would he really have done things more efficiently or even any differently at all? Ronald Reagan won the election on the promises of lowering taxes, but his actual presidency's supposedly short-term stimulus programs ended up skyrocketing the national debt to new levels that had previously never been seen before. Sounds awfully familiar doesn't it?

Yeah, the ones who actually want jobs are struggling.

The benefit whores always seem to do well though is what I was saying.

I've known people who are financially better of on benefits than taking any work they could do.

the only reason i'm staying a float is because every member of my family have some kind of mental defect, and is being supported by the government and even that is going to be taken away soon.

I haven't got experience on stuff like this but :
A)Vote the one you like
B)If you don't know about anyone, the one that sounds the most creative to you
C)If you HATE em all, than basically don't vote and yell "SCREW VOTING I HATE YOU ALL!"

I'm sorry, but I think that this is a load of bull. You do not vote on somebody because they're "creative", you vote on them because their principles are ones that you agree with. If you don't know their principles, voting is pointless imo.
