Catterjune
you can either protect it one turn from your opponent's attacks with trap cards
Tribute setting is done so rarely, that seeing someone do it would immediately raise a red flag in any duelist. And if it's a "game over" kind of thing, a lot of people are gonna purposely side in outs for it. Shadow Mirror. Divine Wrath. Nobleman of Crossout. Shield Crush. "Lololol! Counterability doesn't imply balance!" But ANY monster with more then zero attack is a counter to this.
you can also flip it during the turn you set it with book of taiyou or something else
You're not gonna wanna waste room for Taiyou unless you had a lot of other cards to go long with it. I guess stuff like a Mill Deck with Morphing Jar and Needle Worm, but then you're kind of splitting your deck down the middle between either a mill deck or an OTK deck. It just wouldn't work.
even if it is flipped during your opponent's turn you will at least have some monsters to protect you for that turn
Nope. Being flipped face up =/= being flip summoned. That's why Stealth Bird, and all the other cards from PACMAN decks work they way they do. ... Sorry for necrobumping? =\
