PowerlinX
So I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion today, and I thought I would post my first impressions. Installation Being a nerd, as soon as I got up, I rushed to my computer and downloaded the Lion installer, which was a 3.5 GB download, and even with my great Internet connection, took about 45 minutes to download. Immediately after downloading, I decided to burn a boot DVD for Lion to prevent me from having to go through that painfully long download again. In the verification process, it apparently failed, although the disc had the installer and related files on it, so I'm not sure on that. Anyway, the actual installation was pretty painless and took about 30 minutes. First Impressions After the required restart after the installation process was through, I was presented with the brand new login screen, consisting of a textured background and circle icons for the user accounts. The first thing I noticed was a bit of lag when I clicked on my account name, and while entering my password, and while I was actually logging in. So I proceeded to mess around with the new stuff for a while. And I must say, I like the new multi-touch gestures included with Lion, as well as Launchpad, the new Mail, and the new Exposé. One thing i do not like though is the reversed scrolling, which while being more iOS-style, it just doesn't feel right on a mouse (maybe it does on a trackpad, but I don't own one). Luckily there is the option to change it back to the old scrolling. Final Thoughts Mac OS X Lion is a pretty solid upgrade, and it is a much bigger upgrade than Snow Leopard was. The new UI enhancements are very nice, making the OS look a bit more modern than the old Aqua UI. The new features such as Versions, Resume, and Auto-Save are all very welcome. All in all, Lion is very much worth the $30 and the time required to install it.
