Joker Guy
This is a fan-fiction I came up with. It's my first ever fan-fic, but I have written a few stories before this one. I have to give credit to 'legendhiro' too; he inspired me to do this with his amazing work. Go legendhiro!
“My turn! I draw! Alright, go, Graceful Charity! This Spell allows me to draw 3 cards then discard any 2!” called James to his opponent. “Yeah yeah, I know.” jested Tom tiredly. “I choose to discard ‘Rock Ogre Grotto #1’” and “Hieracosphinx”. I’ll set 2 cards and End my turn.” said James. He was content with his move. He might be open, but he was prepared. “My move! Alright, this duel is over! I play ‘Marauding Captain’, in Attack Mode. [ATK: 1200] His ability is when he is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Warrior-type monster from my hand. Go, ‘Mataza the Zapper’! [ATK: 1100] Now, both of you, attack James directly!” yelled Tom triumphantly. “Not so fast! I activate Call of the Haunted; I can grab one monster from my Graveyard, and as long as Call of the Haunted is on the field, so is my monster! I choose ‘Hieracosphinx’!” [ATK: 2400] called James. Too late, Tom realized his mistake, as Marauding Captain tried to hack away ‘Hieracosphinx’, only to be shattered by a mere swipe from the sphinx. [8000+1200-2400 -> 6800] Tom gritted his teeth. That was a real rookie mistake. “Fine. I switch Mataza to Defense Mode [DEF: 300] and end my turn.” Tom said. “Sweet. I play ‘Seismic Crasher’ [ATK: 1400], and equip him with ‘Mist Body’. So now he can’t be destroyed by battle.” “Fine.” “Hold on lad, I’m not done yet! Go Seismic Crasher, attack and destroy Mataza!” Mataza shattered as Seismic Crasher attacked. “Now, Hieracosphinx, attack him directly!” [6800-2400 -> 4400]. “End turn.” James finally called. It was Tom’s second turn, and he had lost nearly half his life points. “Alright, draw! Nice! I play Swords of Revealing Light! I set 1 card and end my turn. Your move.” Tom called. “Fine. I draw. I set 1 card face down. I activate ‘Domino Effect’ and ‘Hard Sellin’ Zombie’!” “What are their effects?” inquired Tom. “You don’t need to know. Seismic Crasher, use your ability!” called James to his monster. “By destroying 1 Continuous Spell or Trap card I can inflict 500 damage to your Life Points. Go, destroy both my Continuous cards!” James discarded his cards and Seismic Crasher inflicted 1000 points of damage to Tom. [4400-1000 -> 3400]. “Alrigh-.” Tom began. “I’m not done yet!.” James yelled. Tom was puzzled. “Hieracosphinx, go! Attack!” “But you can’t! Swords of Revealing Light.” Tom taunted. “Not for long! Go, Dust Tornado!” The Swords shattered and Hieracosphinx slashed at Tom. [3400-2400 -> 1000]. “Now finish him off Seismic Crasher!” [1000-1400 -> 0] “Aargh! I can never beat you!” Tom joked. James had beaten him once again. James was a pro, after all. He was the champion third time in a row, beating all the best duelists in his school with something that was almost ease. “Don’t worry. It’s just the deck you’re using.” James explained. “That, and the fact you’re ten times better than me.” Tom laughed. “Look, come over tomorrow and we’ll build a deck for ya. My parents have bought a hundred or so more cards and some of them are new Synchro cards. I don’t like them, but you may be able to use them.” James said. “Sounds good. See you tomorrow!” Tom said as they parted ways and walked home. Tom and James were good friends, and had been so since they had met at their school. They lived close to each other, and that had boosted their friendship further. Tom walked home and jumped on his bed, nodding hello to his mother and sister. His dad was out, being the professional duelist he was. How I wish to be like him Tom sighed. Oh well. Maybe James’ new cards will help. Tom laid back on his bed and felt something prodding him. He reached behind him and found an envelope. To my son it read. Tom opened it and looked inside. There was a postcard of his dad in Egypt, studying Yu-Gi-Oh in the ancient times. There were also a few rare cards. Three gadgets, Yellow, Red and Green, some card called ‘Big Saturn’ and 1 last card called ‘Time Machine’. Tom knew only the last Trap Card, and spent about half an hour pondering the effect of Big Saturn. His head started to hurt, so he went and had dinner, consisting of roast lamb and mash potatoes.

The next day Tom walked over to James’ house. Tom showed the cards he had gotten to James. James explained that these were the start of a strong Machine deck. Since James hadn’t opened the new cards yet, they started right away. James found a good few new Rock cards to support his deck, including a very rare ‘Exxod, Master of the Guard’. Tom decided to build a new deck based on Machine types, a type he had never played with before. James had seen a good few Machine decks, and assured Tom a tenfold that they were an extremely powerful type. “Hey look!” Tom said excitedly, as he opened the last of the packs. “Machine King, Machine King Prototype, and- Oh wow! Perfect Machine King!” Tom exclaimed! James gasped. Those first 2 cards were very rare, let alone the last 1, which he had only ever seen 2 of. James at first was filled with desire, but then realized that Tom probably needed them more. “You go ahead and have them. You need them more.” James said. “Really?” Tom asked. James nodded. The packs included a good deal of ‘Machina’ monsters, so Tom added them to his deck. After 2 or so hours reviewing his deck, practicing with James and then building strategies, Tom finally fully understood the ‘Machine’ type. Tom then invited James over to his house. “I want to duel my sister Alexis. You can watch me and review how I duel. See if I’m better with this deck than with my ‘Warrior’ deck. James already knew Tom was better with machines, but he agreed anyway. They walked home and Tom went over his strategy in his head, not wanting James to learn his strategy, yet. When they reached the house, they found Alexis reading a magazine and talking to her mother. “Hey Alexis, wanna duel?” Tom asked. Alexis smiled. “Not really. It’s too boring against you.” Alexis replied. Tom expected this. “I built a new deck. It’s a ‘Machine’ type deck, and it contested with James’ deck.” Tom said. This pricked Alexis’ attention. James was a great duelist, and someone Alexis admired. If Alexis could beat Tom, that might attract James’ attention..... “Alright. But we are going to play for antes. Prize cards.” Alexis explained as she saw Tom’s puzzled expression. Alexis picked out a card she had won recently; Jinzo. She showed it to Tom. He nodded. He looked for a prize card then realised he couldn’t produce one. James reached out an offered Tom a card from Tom’s old deck. Tom said thanks and showed the card; ‘Dragonic Attack’. Alexis, like Tom previously, used a mainly ‘Warrior’ type deck and so ‘Dragonic Attack’ was useful to her. They walked outside and then activated their Duel Disks while James sat back, wondering if Tom was strong enough yet. “Duel!” Tom and Alexis cried in unison. *** “I’ll start!” called Tom. “I draw! Now I play ‘Armored Cybern’ [DEF: 2000] in Defense Mode. Now I activate the Spell card ‘Machine Duplication’. It let’s me pick one ‘Machine’ type monster on my side of the field with 500 ATK or less and then Special Summon up to 2 cards with the same name from my deck. Go, ‘Armored Cybern’! Now I activate ‘Machina Fortress’ special effect; I can discard cards from my field or hand that equal his level or more to Special Summon him to my side of the field. I discard my 2 ‘Armored Cybern’s’ to play......‘Machina Fortress’! [ATK: 2500] With that, I’ll lay two cards face-down and end my turn.” said Tom. Both James and Alexis were impressed. That was a move worthy of James’ attention, and Tom had never done such a thing before. Alexis focused and started her turn. “My move, I draw!” said Alexis passionately. “Alright, I play ‘Getsu Fuhma’ [DEF: 1200] in Defense Mode. I’ll lay one card face down and end my turn.” “Draw!” called Tom. Hmm.....What now? Attack, I guess. “I play Machina Soldier! [ATK: 1600]. I can’t use his ability though. Oh well. “Go Machina Soldier, attack and destroy ‘Getsu Fuhma’!” Machina Soldier ran over and slashed at the female warrior; only to be stopped by a mystical force. “Trap card go! Elemental Absorber! By removing from play 1 monster in my hand, all your monster’s with that attribute can’t attack!” Alexis cried, happy that her Trap went off without a hitch, while Tom cringed as he realized Alexis removed from play ‘Queen’s Bodyguard’; an Earth type. Tom’s deck was based around Earth types, so as long as ‘Elemental Absorber’ was on the field he couldn’t attack. “Fine. I’ll change ‘Machina Soldier’ to Defense Mode [DEF: 1500] then I’ll end with a face-down.” Tom said, gritting his teeth.

“I knew you would. I switch Getsu Fuhma to Attack Mode [ATK: 1700].” said Alexis. “As I knew you would.” Tom retorted. “Meh. I’ll still win. Go ‘Getsu Fuhma’, destroy ‘Machina Soldier’!” Alexis cried! Tom concentrated. “Alright! I activate both my face-downs! ‘Shrink’ and ‘Castle Walls’! ‘Shrink’ halves your monster’s attack [ATK: 850] and ‘Castle Walls’ raises my monsters defense by 500! [DEF: 2000].” This time, Tom was the happy one. Stone walls raised around ‘Machina Soldier’ while ‘Getsu Fuhma’ halved in size. Alexis cringed while ‘Getsu Fuhma’ charged at the high defense ‘Machina Soldier’. ‘Gestu Fuhma’ slashed, but was knocked back by the sheer strength of the ‘Castle Walls’. [8000-1150 -> 6850] “Crap. Fine. I end with a face-down.” Alexis said as a holographic face-down card appeared. Alexis couldn’t work out how Tom had planned those moves so well. They must have been a fluke thought Alexis. “My turn. I draw.” I can’t do anything with Elemental Absorber on the field so.... “I’ll lay one card face-down. Turn end.” Tom said confidently enough. He hoped he was doing the right thing. “Right. I draw.” Alexis said, hoping to sound confident, though she was no such thing. She was shaken by how well Tom had played. “I play ‘Swordsman of Landstar’ in Defense Mode [DEF: 1200]. I’ll throw down a face-down and end my turn.” said Alexis. “Makes no difference. I draw. Alright! I play ‘Heavy Storm’. It destroys all Spell and Trap cards on the field! Now go ‘Machina Fortress’, attack!” Tom called to his monster. ‘Machina Fortress’ started charging it’s laser as Alexis almost cried. The ‘Fortress’ stopped charging and shot it’s deathly beam, striking ‘Getsu Fuhma’. [6850-800 -> 6050]. Nice move Tom! James will be proud of that one thought Tom to himself. “I’ll end my turn. Go.” Alexis took a deep breath and drew. That’s alright. Alexis thought. “I play Pot of Greed, allowing me to draw 2 more cards. Now I play 1 card in face-down Defense and end my turn.” Alexis said. That would hold out for only so long thought Alexis. She hoped her face-down monster could change things. “My move! I draw! Now I activate ‘Card Trader’. By adding 1 card from my hand to my deck I can shuffle my deck and draw 1 card.” Tom said. James looked on approvingly; Tom had chosen that card himself. “Now I activate ‘Brain Control’. I pay 800 Life Points to take control of 1 of your monsters until the End Phase. I choose ‘Swordsman of Landstar’. I now play ‘Machina Sniper’ in Attack Mode [ATK: 1800]. I then Tribute ‘Swordsman of Landstar’ and my ‘Machina Soldier’ to play my ace card ‘Big Saturn’!” [ATK: 2800] Alexis watched in awe as a massive machine presented itself. It was pretty amazing that Tom managed to summon his ace in his first duel with a new deck. Even James was impressed now. “Go ‘Machina Sniper’, attack!” Tom yelled! ‘Machina Sniper’ took aim and shot the face-down monster, revealing itself as ‘Allure Queen Lv3’ before shattering seconds later. Now, ‘Big Saturn’ and ‘Machina Fortress’, attack Alexis directly!” [6050-2800 -> 3250-2500 -> 750]. “To finish, I’ll activate ‘Cemetary Bomb’, dealing 100 points of damage to you for each card in your Graveyard. You have 6 cards; you take 600 damage. [750-600 -> 150] Alexis knew now, she had lost. I’ll throw a card in face-down defense. End turn.” Alexis said. It was a good duel thought Alexis. Tom had played superb, beyond superb. Let him win now. “My turn! I draw. Now go, ‘Machina Sniper’, do your thing!” ‘Queen’s Bodyguard’ was blasted away as easily as ‘Allure Queen Lv3’ was 2 turns previous. Now, go ‘Big Saturn’, win this!” And end it ‘Big Saturn’ did. [250-2800 -> 0]. “Wow. What a duel big brother! You finally beat me!” Alexis said, rather puzzled.”So did James build your deck bro?” “No, actually Tom did. He chose them, since he had received ‘Big Saturn’ from your dad last night. Did you get any cards?” James asked Alexis. “I did. ‘Allure Queen’ Levels 3,5 and 7, ‘Queen’s Bodyguard’ and ‘Ultimate Offering’. I was planning to use ‘Allure Queen’ against Tom but he brought me down too quick. Dang you played well Tom.” Alexis said. “Thanks. The thrill I got from that duel was awesome.” Tom replied. “Hey guys, there is a new tournament coming to town. A dueling tourney. I was wondering if you guys wanted to join my team. It’s just me and my friend Amy so far. She plays a Fire deck, and she’s pretty good. Almost as good as me. So how ‘bout it?” James asked. “Sure!” Alexis replied. She loved dueling, and she loved James. What a perfect match! A dueling tournament on James’ team! “I’ll join too. But are you sure you want me?” Tom asked James. “Yeah man! The way you played today was awesome. By the way, it’s a series of 1v1 duels. Whichever team wins the most duels wins the round.” James said. “Cool. When is it?” Tom replied. “It’ll be on in a week. Come over each day after school and we’ll practice. I’ll get Amy to come too. Anyway’s it’s late, and I gotta go. See ya!” James said hurriedly. Alexis and Tom hastened to reply and waved James off. Tom walked inside and looked over his cards. He grabbed out some older ones and swapped a few, going for a more offensive deck. He looked over his deck for 2 hours more that day, before finally consigning to sleep. *** For the next week James, Tom, Alexis and Amy practiced dueling. Tom and Alexis met Amy, working out she was a nice girl, and quite attractive at that (or at least Tom thought so). They needed a team name, and Amy brightly came up with the name ‘Duel Knights’. Everyone liked that, especially Alexis, saying it supported her ‘Warrior’ theme deck.

All too soon, it was the time of the tournament. Everyone was well prepared, and they headed over to the arena where the tournament was being held. James again told his team which team they were versing. They called themselves ‘The Zero’. They were a team who used a variety of decks. “We don’t know what decks they are using, so be careful. Don’t underestimate any of them.” James warned his team. They nodded, then walked to the duel arena where the announcer was announcing the events of the day, at which point everyone but Alexis zoned out. “Alright guys, we’re first up.” James said. He led his team onto the duel arena, where the enemy team was waiting. “You’re first up Amy. Show them who’s boss.” Amy nodded. She was a fiery character, much like her deck. Amy walked up to the platform to meet her opponent, a brown haired character wearing tattered jeans and a tank top. “Shuffle your decks.” announced the judge of the duel. Both did so. “Duel!” they cried in unison. “I’ll go first. By the way, name’s John.” called the brown haired guy. “Draw! Alright, I play ‘Elemental HERO Wildheart’! [ATK: 1500]. Next, I equip him with ‘Cyclone Boomerang’! [ATK: 2000] That’s all from me.” he called, smirking. His HERO might be strong, but he had no Traps that could protect him, should Amy get rid of his boomerang. “My move! I draw! Alright, I play “Charcoal Inpachi” in Defense Mode. [DEF: 2100]. I’ll lay 2 cards face-down and that’ll be all.” Amy said nervously. “Nice monster, but he’s not half as good as this guy. Go, ‘Trojan Horse’! I’ll lay 1 card face-down, and end my turn.” John called. “Draw! Alright, I sacrifice ‘Charcoal Inpachi’ to play ‘Thestalos, The Firestorm Monarch’ [ATK: 2400]. When he’s successfully summoned, I tribute 1 card in your hand. If it’s a monster, I deal damage to you of 100 times the monster’s level. I choose the one on the far right.” Amy said, rather pleased. John revealed it as ‘Gaia Power’. Amy heard John curse silently. “Now go ‘Thestalos’, attack and destroy his ‘Wildheart’!” Amy called. ‘Thestalos’ threw a rain of fire at ‘Wildheart’, incinerating it. [8000-400 -> 7600]. “I’ll end with a face-down.” “Hehehe, you attacked the wrong guy. I draw!” John smirked. “Now I tribute my ‘Trojan Horse’ to summon, ‘Elemental HERO Bladedge’! [ATK: 2600]. You should have attacked my horse, not my HERO. Oh well. Now I activate ‘A Warrior Returning Alive’! This allows me to grab 1 Warrior type monster from my Graveyard and add it to my hand. I choose ‘Wildheart’! Now go, Polymerization!” A portal appeared and ‘Wildheart’ and ‘Bladedge’ were sucked into it. And out came a brute looking man with golden armor in places and barbaric clothing in others. “Here he is! Elemental HERO Wildedge!” John said happily. “Attack!” “I activate my Trap cards, ‘Threatening Roar’ and ‘Mispolymerization’. Your Battle Phase is ended, and ‘Wildedge’ is gone.” Amy said back. John didn’t like it, but he couldn’t do anything. ‘Wildedge’ split back into ‘Wildheart’ and ‘Bladedge’. “End turn.” John said. “Good choice.” Amy said. “Draw!” Alright, what have I got? Oh man, this sucks! Wait, I might just have something.....”Alright, I play Blazing Hiita! [DEF: 1500] Her ability is I can tribute 1 Fire Monster on my side of the field to Special Summon 1 Fire type monster from my hand. Goodbye ‘Thestalos’, hello ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’!” [ATK: 2400] A giant dragon that was black and grey appeared beside Amy. “Now I chain with ‘Ultimate Offering’. This allows me to pay 500 Life Points to allow me to Normal Summon extra monsters this turn. I pay 500 Life Points [8000-500 -> 7500] to activate ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’s’ Effect, I can Normal Summon him to make him allowed to attack twice!” The black and grey dragon disappeared then reappeared. “Now I pay another 500 [7500-500 -> 7000] to summon ‘Ultimate Baseball Kid’ [ATK: 500]and another 500 [7000-500 -> 6500] to summon ‘Darkfire Soldier #2’! [ATK: 1700] Then I activate Hiita’s effect again, and summon my 2nd ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’, sacrificing my ‘Darkfire Soldier’!” [ATK: 2400] Amy squealed in delight as ‘Darkfire Soldier #2’ was replaced by another sinister dragon. “Now I activate my 2nd dragon’s ability; paying another 500 [6500-500 -> 6000] to re-summon him!” As with the 1st dragon, the 2nd disappeared and reappeared, this time able to attack twice. “Doesn’t matter how strong your dragon’s are; Bladedge can overcome them both.” John jested at Amy. All he was met with was a smile. “What about my little ‘Baseball Kid’? He gains 1000 ATK for every other Fire type monster on my side of the field. I have three. [ATK: 3500]. Now go, Ultimate Baseball Smash!” The ‘kid’ launched a lightning-fast ball that smashed into ‘Bladedge’, shattering him. [7600-900 -> 6700]. “Now, dragons, go!” Amy called. There was nothing John could do to hold back this fiery character who excelled so at dueling. The dragons destroyed his last ‘HERO’ with ease [6700-900 -> 5800] then attacked him directly, three times. [5800-2400 -> 3400] [3400-2400 -> 1000] [1000-2400 -> 0]. “YES!” Amy squealed in delight. She had won! “Well played Amy. I have never dueled against someone with such caliber. I hope we may duel again in the future.” John congratulated Amy. She nodded, then both stepped off their respective podiums. Alexis stepped up, as well as a girl from the other team. “Nice.” Alexis whispered to Amy as they brushed past. “Thanks. Have fun and good luck.” Amy replied, to which Alexis nodded. “I’m running a new ‘Amazoness’ deck, so I’ll need all the luck I can get.” Alexis said. Amy gasped. ‘Amazoness’ cards were pretty rare these days and they were very powerful when used right.
legendhiro
it's probably way too late coming, but i really like this story. i know it didn't get very far, and it has some problems (most stories do), but i like what we know of the characters so far, and the writing shows great potential. With each chapter i see the problems that i notice grow fewer and fewer. Joker, if you ever read this, i apologize for being so easily distracted away from this site, and i hope that one day you pick this up again. if you do, and you want my help, i'm pretty sure my email is visible on my profile page. drop me a line.
