Absolutely amazing! :D

First, I'm not here to harass. I don't think what people said at first was the right thing to say. Calling you 'f*cking art thieves' was not the way to go.

But I do have a feeling that if we kindly asked you to remove the artwork, you wouldn't have, either.

It is art theft, people... the artists don't want you using their artwork without their expressed permission, and while you don't take the credit, you neither give them credit, which is just the same as stealing...

I have reported you to the MyBB company. I do hope that if they don't take down your board, that you guys at least start asking the artists for their permission.

"I didn't know" is never an excuse.

Taking without asking is ALWAYS stealing. Always. Life's rules are the same way, so how is it any different in the internet community?

I'm not trying to be immature. I'm not trying to be a jerk.

I'm just trying to tell you, as a civil artist. Please, stop stealing works, and just ask first... sometimes all they'll ask for is a simple watermark in the corner!

So, if you want to come her calling me a jerk, insulting the members and all that jazz, then you're simply solidifying the opinion that's out there of you being childish bratty art thieves.

Thank you for your time.

I'm expecting the ban, and I don't plan to ever come back here to argue, (maybe to check your response, if any), so don't fret your little spiky haired heads over it.

I hope the fact that I came here in a civil, polite, and intelligent matter helps.

Thank you for your time.

ATTENTION YCM, THIS IS A PLACE OF SERIOUS DISCUSSION. DO NOT POST TO FLAME OR ACT IMMATURELY. THIS IS YOUR WARNING.

Not only the civil manner, but the fact you posted this in your own thread rather than focusing on a specific member helps. I ban DA Radicals for harassing the individual members, as it's far from the answer.

I can really understand it can be horrible to have your work stolen. To be honest, I think the correct action was to report the site to the "MyBB" company. Because honestly, the members won't change on their own. They need someone in authority to direct them. I wouldn't mind if requesting art became a rule. It would be a major inconvenience, but still a just rule.

I'm not for or agaisnt your cause. I will always act on the best interests of the forum. But you at least made the right decision to get something done.

Well at last, we do indeed find a more Polite DA image protestor

not like Chevi or Ayas or Jocarra (great taste in music)

Although as stated, Jocarra has my respect for liking Cyber-Gothic music.

We do understand this, but as already stated, only 1 person has the power to do anything about it, as this 1 messege will not get through to the 1000's of members

only the Admin Can

As stated on Ayas's journal, i believe you should stop coming here and protesting, that, is not helping matters.

Contact the Admin, YCMaker, and await his reply...

Well, hah. I guess I lied, as I am back to reply :)

Reguardless, I do appreciate the civil response back. I was hoping not to initiate some terrible war between myself and the forum!

What you guys are having is fun. And I understand that completely. I just wish it was as harmless as it seems, you know?

I'll go ahead and bring it up to YCMaker, and hopefully it will help your community out some. I understand you guys are just doing this because it's something you enjoy, and it's something to do. But why get attacked because of something that's avoidable?

Again, thank you so much for the civil responses. And thank you, God Kaze. I was worried you would come and stamp me with a big bad ban, and you proved me wrong. So thank you, very much. The respect is appreciated. :)

Btw Cubistar?

Do you know any of the other DA Protestors? such as Chevi, or Ayas-Shadow?

If you do, could you please kindly tell them, that starting a mass flaming journal on DA is not an Uber good way to solve the problem.

Although, Ayas's most recent entry i shall respect.

We really do understand the problem at hand, and rest assured, we will try to find a solution to all of this.

I didn't say anything directly to them (as I think that'd cause an unnecessary fit), but I did make a mention in the original artists journal that it was pointless for people to be so 'vigilante' and gruff about it.

And while I guess a peace rally in the real world doesn't make as much of a statement as an aggressive assult, on the internet, people appreciate a kind, civil, thought out manner, versus "OMG YOU GUYS SUX" and so forth...

People are more likely to listen to a calmly spoken person than a caps using leetspeeker, hehe.

Thank you guys so much..

I did message YCMaker, so hopefully something will come of it.

On behalf of all artists (DA or otherwise), I appreciate the kindness back.. I can't express that enough.

I have a question. ;o

Ok' date=' say I wanted to get permission from a DA artist to use his/her work. Do they have E-mail adresses on the site I could use, or would I need to become a DA member to get into contact with them?

[/quote']

Personally i believe you should become a member, of which is not too much hassle

Well that's one of my problems... :S A relative of mine also uses this computer from time to time' date=' and being the immature runt that he is, started causing trouble on DA, and now I cannot become a member. (IP ban I'm guessing...)

[/quote']

In which case you ask a friend or another Member to message an artist on your behalf

or

you dont make the cards

Another suggestion I have is that normally, local libraries have internet access, and from what I know they're all okay with using deviantart. :) And if that doesn't work, I suppose using a friends computer would be harmless as well.

If you want to go the erm... wrong route, you can also always reset your IP address, heh. But I wouldn't always recommend that!

Thanks! I'll be sure to try that... I don't wanna use too much of my own.. er.... 'art'... might cause a lot of forum-goers to go blind XD

I understand that's why a lot of the YCMers use deviant art, because they feel like their art isn't good (Not to sound cheesy, but obviously we all have different talents, and not all of us can be artists.) I know if it was possible, it'd be nice to set up an 'art request' system, where people offer up their artistic talents to help you guys out...

However, usually things like that are short lived. I've seen it done on other forums, but they don't always flourish as well as they should.

And I could suggest commissioning artists, but I'm sure many people (like me) don't always necessarily have the funds to, hehe.

I can totally understand this to be honest. However sometimes it is hard to do this when images are found on Google and Photobucket as the artist can almost always never be found and thus credit can't be given' date=' and as far as DeviantArt images are concerned how can we give credit without ruining a card image?

[/quote']

As far as google and photobucket are concerned, I can understand where the mistake could easily be made. It happens, and sometimes it can't be avoided. But sometimes a little research never hurts :) If there's a copyright on the image, google the artist and see if you can find them. If there isn't a copyright, and the image is in someone's photobucket, perhaps it's best to just not use it, unless you can find a way to contact them.

As far as giving credit, watermarks don't have to be bright blatant copyrights. A simple transparent '© name' in the corner is really all that's necessary.

And to bring up that point, sticking a copyright in the corner of an image and using it without the artists permission can still be seen as stealing, so I don't really recommend that.. it's always best just to ask. :)

And also, I thank you for bringing up a valid concern. :)

Only art I can do is on paint' date=' and it's still bad... XD Here's a pic I made, plan on using it for a Valentine's Set of cards:

Well since ya make a convincing argument and are actually a kind person and not a flamer' date=' I'll no longer use any DA art... unless I have permission of course :3

[/quote']

Thank you very much.. seriously. DA artists as a whole can't really thank you enough for offering to take that step :)

And me, just as a person who is concerned for everyone's wellbeing thank you. I mean seriously, it helps out a whole lot.

What if the artist is no longer alive? but you credit that person as a tribute to that person?

I used to use alot of Artist work from CA before I knew about DA' date=' and I used the artwork from Glen Angus' Victory Gals and usually you may have seen other members use the same images but I haven't seen anyone else use the images of the Victory Gals except me, and I felt rather priviledged. I took pride in that, and tried to do my best with them, and still work on them to make them as good as I can get them to be.

I don't know what I'm trying to say, I just felt if I gave enough credit, and used the images with a deeper respect for the artist, then that wouldv'e been enough.

[/quote']

I agree, that that is a completely different case. Not only is it being done as a tribute for the deceased artist, but full credit has been given in every form. Obviously, you can't ask a deceased person if you can use their artwork, and legally I suppose, unless someone else was passed the copyright, it is now in a sense, nullified. But what you did is fine, and it's a totally separate case in my opinion. :)

Sadly that wasn't the case with all cards I have made. I agree that in most other instances' date=' I have neglected to remember who the artist was or remembered to ask permission because I was in a rush. What do I do then? Some of the original artists work cannot be found again, even if I tried so I won't know who the artist was. Does that mean that the cards that I made (and the other 99.9% of memebers on here) without having consent will have to be removed from YCMF?

[/quote']

Good point

I for one will be extremely outraged if my Dj's were made to be removed.
