An Unfortunate Report

Recommended Posts

OK, so I went to locals yesterday, so here's a random report. I ran an incomplete (Extra Deck wise) T.G. deck.
Monsters: 15
3x T.G. Rush Rhino
3x T.G. Striker
3x T.G. Warwolf
3x Reborn Tengu
2x Beast King Barbaros
1x Effect Veiler

Spells: 10
2x Pot of Duality
2x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Pot of Avarice
1x Dark Hole
1x Monster Reborn
1x Book of Moon
1x Enemy Controller
1x Giant Trunade

Traps: 15
3x Horn of the Phantom Beast
2x TG1 - EM1
2x Skill Drain
2x Bottomless Trap Hole
1x TGX3 - DX2
1x Mirror Force
1x Solemn Judgment
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Royal Oppression
1x Seven Tools of the Bandit

Extra Deck: 12 (yes, incomplete)
1x Ally of Justice Catastor
1x T.G. Wonder Magician
1x Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1x Gaia Knight the Force of the Earth
1x Naturia Barkion
1x Black Rose Dragon
1x Scrap Archfiend
1x Stardust Dragon
1x Scrap Dragon
2x Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1x Chimeratech Fortress Dragon
I got there planning to play Gravekeepers, but then I realized all the team needed for T.G.s was 2 more Horn of the Phantom Beast and 2 Skill Drain. Then one of my team members lent out the Tengus to someone else so I had to borrow them along with a Skill Drain from my friend (I still have the cards because he went home before I could give them back). So I managed to get a Skill Drain from my friend Jake Quinsee as well, so I was ready with that deck. If you hadn't noticed yet, it is a misleading title about an unfortunate locals report rather than the card.

Round 1: Demise OTK
Game 1: I just remember him not being able to play round Skill Drain because he couldn't search out any of his combo pieces for the OTK. I beat him down with a Gaia Knight and a Tengu for the entire game.
Game 2: This one was won by me playing a TT on his Demise calling prio, because he blew up his Geartown and showed me the Limiter Removal. I was down to 2k but I still managed to regain card advantage until he drew Swing of Memories to bring back Blue-Eyes and blow up my Barbaros, putting me down to 900, which was when I top-decked Skill Drain. I still managed to stay on 900 and keep on beating him down with Rhinos etc.

1-0

Round 2: Amazoness (I know, that's what I though too)
Game 1: Well, I knew nothing about how Amazoness played, so a lot of the game was just me reading cards. I did manage to knock down his card advantage with EM1 on his Swords Woman (that was equipped with this card that made it gain 800 and the equip was unable to be destroyed by things that destroy spells). I rammed over the Striker I gave him, attacked with a 2k Rhino and kept on gaining advantage while beating him down.
Game 2: I sided in Penguin Soldiers and a Debunk because a lot of his cards (Chain Master in particular) activated in the Grave and I didn't want him putting them in the Grave for their effects). I attacked over a set Chain Master with Rhino and he stole the Penguin Soldier in my hand, he then Set it and I was just forced to ram over it with Rhino. I remember getting a Tengu with Horn in this game as well, which was what got me game really. Beating him down while gaining advantage.

2-0

Round 3: Blackwings
Game 1: I don't remember much of this apart from that I Veilered his Blizzard and beat him down a lot. I won anyway.
Game 2: I sided out Barbaros and Skill Drain for Wanghus, a Debunk and a Penguin Soldier. Wanghu stopped an early Blizzard. I remember him not being able to do anything against the Oppression, which stopped his other Blizzard and his Armor Master. Also the Debunk was ready for a Vayu play, so I kept on beating him down knowing I had control of the game. Tengu and Horn played a part in it somewhere as well.

3-0

Round 4: Karakuri Salvo OTK
Game 1: Well, this was a good matchup. Not many backrows to stop me. I remember that he Summoned a Cyber Dragon and tried to Synchro with a Salvo, but I booked the CyDra. Next turn I summoned Tengu and E-Conned his Salvo to make a nuking Black Rose. He Warninged it, which was fair enough because he would've been left with 2 cards to my 5. I Set many backrows including a Horn (which seemed to be the most hated card at my locals after this tournament). I controlled all his plays while beating down with a Horned Tengu.
Game 2: Can't remember much of this apart from the fact that I TT'd his Ninja and 2 other Karakuris, one being that one where you get the extra Normal Summon (the other being the one he did Normal Summon). I remember him sending my Rhino to the Grave with the effect of that Karakuri thing, which annoyed me. But it was pure beating down with Barbaros etc. that got me this game.

4-0

Round 5: Gladiator Beasts
Game 1: I remember that I lost card advantage early game because I had to use 3 Traps to get round a Laquari play, because he activated Seven Tools. He then topdecked the other Laquari, which annoyed me. I couldn't regain advantage and couldn't get over the Essedarii. I lost this one.
Game 2: A similar thing happened with the lack of card advantage, and him MSTing my Skill Drain and me not drawing any monsters was not the best thing that could happen. I managed to negate a Gyzarus and another Glad Beast play with Oppression, but the lack of monsters was a problem and he beat me down with 2 Laquaris for the rest of the game. This wasn't too important, because people on 4-1 will top 16 anyway.

4-1

Top 16: Zombie Tengu
Game 1: I can't remember much of this, apart from that I lost it to lack of card advantage, which was partially my fault for a slight misplay with EM1. It took about 20 minutes for him to win this game because he was trying to cheat by changing the rules of Yu-Gi-Oh, so the judge was watching the game to keep an eye on us.
Game 2: I remember him admiring all the cards in the deck saying "woah that's broken" etc. This wasted a bit of time, along with more ruling problems. I did managed to retain advantage while burning his cards away. It was 2 Horn of the Phantom Beast that got me this game. Along with clever plays to gain card advantage.
Game 3: He gained early advantage, but I managed to gain it back by stopping his plays with Skill Drain and Bottomlessing his Brionac. It was Horn of the Phantom Beast that got me this game as well. Equipping it to a Tengu and beating him down.

Top 8: X-Sabers
Game 1: I won this game because he couldn't get round Skill Drain and I burned through his card advantage so he ended up with 2 cards in his hand that he couldn't use, so he was basically top-decking, which isn't what Sabers like to do.
Game 2: I can't remember much here, but Hyunlei is such a broken card... It left me with practically nothing and he beat me down with it. Barkion also played a massive part in this, locking down my many backrows.
Game 3: He saw the havoc that Hyunlei and Barkion caused against me, so he played the entire game trying to make them. I get round his Barkion with a Book of Moon and a massive beater, but Hyunlei came in and ruined me. I made a horrible misplay as well: He had a Hyunlei and 2 Set Monsters. I was on 2000 and had Oppression and TT set with a Rhino in hand. I ended without setting the Rhino. I was hoping he would flip one of his set monsters so I could TT and attack with a Rhino for game next turn, but he just attacked and I couldn't do anything about it. I would've won as well...

It was unfortunate because of that major misplay and the fact that I got nothing from my Turbo pack or the prize pack (yes, you get 1 pack for getting top 8, it's terrible, especially with a £4 entry fee). Still, we had a good day trades wise, with the team buying a Super Heavy Storm and an Ultra or Ultimate Plaguespreader for £8. As well as some other stuff. We nearly got Tour Guides from this kid who didn't know how much any of our cards were worth. We offered him a £1 card binder and a low rarity Macro Deck, and he said he'd think about it, then he sold them for £100 each...

Tried to change the rules of yugioh?
Yeah he was trying to say I couldn't activate Horn in the Damage Step, then when the judge told him he was wrong, he tried activating Dust Tornado on the Horn. That and a few other things I can't remember.

Couldn't you NOT activate skill drain at that low? Doesn't it have a cost?

Yeah maybe that wasn't clear. I got put down to 900 Life Points, then drew Skill Drain. I was saying it was a bad thing to draw.

Oh. Well, sorry :3

lucky kid with tour guides XD

Yeah, apparently the same kid bought a comic from a car boot sale for 10 pence and sold it for £400 on ebay. He is actually the luckiest kid I know. He pulled a Roach as well...

I want to be this kid.

OT: Pity about the misread on the X-Saber guy. Still, sounded like you handle your deck reasonably well, and 5-2 is nothing to be ashamed of. The only competition I ever entered, I went 3-6(it was a big comp).

Lol, despite how lucky that kid is, I don't want to be him. He's fat, a terrible player and is only allowed to go to tournaments if his grandpa supervises him.

And if I hadn't misplayed against Sabers, I would probably have won which would've meant I would have got top 2, since the other top 4 guy was the same Karakuri guy I beat in the swiss. Karakuri is a great matchup. I wouldn't have got top 1 though, since the other top 2 guy I would've played had Warnings etc. and was playing Tengu in his deck, and I've also seen him win a few tournaments. I would've lost but top 2 would've been much better prize support than top8...

You never told us what was in that pack btw. What was it?

Every Turbo pack I ever got had Wattkid, Gladiator Proving Grounds, and Advanced Ritual Arts in it. And I've had 10.
Top 8 pack there was nothing worth anything and they were all useless cards, so I binned them. Can't remember the cards. Turbo Pack I got a Gemini Spark, a Bountiful Artemis and a Rare Zombie Master. So I lost out money wise, since the entry fee was £4 and I made about £2 back.
