That does not change the fact that the Byzantine Empires constant boasting about having a piece of the cross made it a primary target for radical christians forming armies and attacking the city. It is a beautiful city no doubt but it can never synchronize well with "safe".

That coupled with the fact that Constantines economy almost solely based on its trade revenue and if the trade wasn't good one day, it would turn out bad for the economy. That and the fact that the sacking of Constantinople proved that the rulers put to much trust in the Templar Knights and that constantine only had too be taken over by putting trust in the emperor.
