1) express left side with same base
5^x + 5^3(5^-x)=30
2) apply exponent laws to left side
5^(x+3(5^-x))=30
3) now in simple log form, apply log rules
x + 3(5^-x) = log 30
4) simplify
x + 3x/5 = some number
5) solve for x
