The actual, Nothing-Funny-About-It Subject of Rape.

My mind has been on the subject of rape. Just discuss it, I guess. The girl I love was raped a year ago on Saturday. Who has been raped and will admit it? How did/do you cope with it? She resorted to cutting, which she eventually stopped when she finally realized just how much it hurt me. Maybe this is appropriate discussion, maybe not. We'll see.

I Shut down emotionally. I stopped fighting back. I stopped living basically. It was until the boy I was friends with that became my husband saved me. It was a couple months after we learned that my ability to have children was severely diminished. My husband influenced me enough to blame my religion that I couldn't have kids. My hate became my salvation until Joshua came into this world.

Nobody ever has the right to take the virginity of another person without their permission. It was just after her 12th birthday, to. December 17th is when it happened.

It's something that you can never get back. Something you would do anything to change, right?

Yes, it made me very untrusting of people and I still am. The fact that she came to you talking about it shows how much she trusts you. Don't ruin that trust. It is horrible to lose it.

That's exactly right. I understand how it would make someone more careful of who they trust, especially if it was by someone they know. There are three different girls in my grade that I know have been raped or molested. One of them came back to school this year a completely different person. She turned to the internet and anime for relief, something she had already had an interest in before. The other... Well, became a slut. She recently took a pregnancy test that came back positive. Before her rape, which by the way was by another student in our grade, (and the teachers don't even separate them) she had just gotten her first kiss.

I seriously respect and admire you for sharing something so awful and so horrible. I couldn't even perceive what you must've went through.

On the subject of rape, I don't think many people will feel comfortable discussing it. It also seems a bit to serious for General.

Well, as much as I hate to admit it. Keeping it quiet is needed. Things like that is something that haunts us forever. Getting her over it will be long and difficult and revenge isn't a way to deal with it successfully.

It's horrible, and people who joke about it are disgusting. I've never known anyone that's been raped (rather, spoken out about it), but it is a terrible thing.

They're like dead baby jokes. Only parents, people that know parents well, and those that actually care know they're not funny.

Indeed.

I'm not trying to force discussion out of anyone; I well understand that even viewing this thread is very painful to some.

So I'm guessing that nearly nobody on this site knows the psychology of a rape victim, apart from the OP who I can actually openly believe. Nonetheless, rape is a very serious matter and one I'm actually quite interested in from the perspective of psychology. I like to not only study the aftermath of rape and how it can drastically affect the victim's mindset, but I also like the look at it from the perspective of the person actually committing the act. So yeah, I actually have decent experience in this matter although I have never been raped or molested in my life.

Rape Jokes are 50% of the jokes my best friend makes..

Sometimes I wonder .-.

One of my good friends in high school was raped at the age of 12, by her brother's 18 year old best friend..

Yeah. some people are f***ed up.

TBH I don't see where this topic can go to except "Rape is bad", because in all honesty, that's like, the only real thing we'd ever think about it.

We could actually have an intellectual discussion on why people make rape jokes in the first place, but this is YCM and it's all cookie-cutter anyway.

Everyone has their own sense of humor.

To laugh at the forced loss of purity and (for many) a symbol of pride isn't and shouldn't be acceptable.

To berate someone's idea of a laughable and funny anecdote is stupid. Let them have their humor and you stick to your own. If you don't like it, leave.

Yet for such a word to be thrown around so casually in itself is horrendous. If that specific n word which coloured people don't like is/can be considered illegal, why isn't this?

If the n word is illegal then we're f*cked. It shouldn't be illegal and neither should ****.

Did you know that n****r means ignorant and not colored? Just like how the swastika was a buddhist symbol, there's really nothing wrong with the word. People just assume it's bad because it was used horribly. This is the part where I mention I'm half black and half white.

Then again, this is where our arguments may begin to divide as my government is that of the British while yours is American. Over here it's illegal for us to say that and it is often treated pretty harshly for just a word.
