Storm Dragon, I dropped just for consistency's sake, but that idea sounds pretty amazing actually. I'm gonna carry on testing, see what happens. evilfusion
Well, you could try Sanctuary in the Sky instead, which could give you access to support like Divine Punishment or Terraforming, but Fields are rampant enough where this is either a good idea or a terrible one, as it can either ruin your opponent's Field Spell, or be ruined by it.
That's the main reason why I chose it over Sanctuary. Against Dark Worlds or things that run Ravine, it's hard not to get wrecked by careless battle damage. Besides, the Field Spell engine would take more space to be consistent (i.e. an extra 2-3 Terraforming). Otherwise, it has little advantages over this engine. gimmepie
I've never run cloudians but this deck looks intriguing. Honestly looks like this could be quite a threat though. .Rai
What advantage do you gain from siding into Plants? What problems do Cloudians face that Plants get rid of?
What advantage? It's a more subtle smokescreen of anything. I can't side with generic anti-meta as literally there's no space to take so I can only do a smokescreen. I was hoping for a side into anti-meta but there's not enough space. Instead, I took the easy route and sided into Plants. The best way of describing the side is that Cloudians have their roots in a control based deck. They can hold their own against control rather well as they have benefits of aggro elements, but fail when it comes to pure swarm decks like Plants as they aren't explosive enough. The gameplay is different enough to allow the side into Plants, and that your opponent will have trouble siding against it. Of course, you could side into Fissures, but that's predictable and Cloudians don't suffer that much from it so I can stay in Cloudians and field/hand rape. And, of course, Tour Guide takes care of a lot of problems that otherwise Cloudians would have trouble with. The only other side I can think of is into Agents with an extra reduced Turbulence engine so I can side into pure control and run Fissure if I wanted. I should then have just about enough space for some generic anti-meta.
Brandon Michael Geren
What advantage?
The only reasons to ever use the side deck to completely change the win condition are either to do better against a bad matchup, or to make the cards your opponent sides in useless. For instance, Frog FTK could side into Frog Monarchs. In that deck, siding has the added benefit of helping you do good after going second. Another example is what I presume Curtis did with Gallis in YCML. As far as I could tell, he used regular Gallis game 1, siding into various good traps in later games. This is advantageous because a player would normally side out Mystical Space Typhoon, Heavy Storm, and other such cards to throw in cards to stop the combo (if they were bad enough to assume that he even used the combo in the first place). Both of these contrast main and side. Each one goes from an explosive deck into a more controlling deck, rendering a good chunk of the opponent's deck useless.
It's a more subtle smokescreen of anything.
To be even more subtle, you could use 15 cards that counter various decks from today's meta and subtly bring in a few of those depending on matchups.
What advantage? It's a more subtle smokescreen of anything. I can't side with generic anti-meta as literally there's no space to take so I can only do a smokescreen. I was hoping for a side into anti-meta but there's not enough space.
Changing win conditions is absolutely unnecessary. I do think it would be funny to side into anti-meta, but I do also see that you can't. That doesn't make Plants a good option.
The best way of describing the side is that Cloudians have their roots in a control based deck. They can hold their own against control rather well as they have benefits of aggro elements, but fail when it comes to pure swarm decks like Plants as they aren't explosive enough.
I've playtested a bit and it doesn't seem like control at all. I can see how Altus and Cirrostratus would appear to be very good control cards, but I don't find myself getting their effects off very often. Other than that, it seems like a deck focused around Synchroing.
The gameplay is different enough to allow the side into Plants, and that your opponent will have trouble siding against it.
Taking from the side deck of YCS Brighton's winner, which is as follows: 2 Cyber Dragon 2 Thunder King Rai-Oh 2 Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo 2 Fiendish Chain 2 Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror 2 Dimensional Fissure 1 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Heavy Storm 1 Spirit Reaper I would side in Dyna, Dimensional Fissure, and possibly Fiendish Chain, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Heavy Storm. All of these, bar maybe Mystical Space Typhoon and Heavy Storm, would be rather effective against both Cloudians and Plants. However, if you were to follow the trends mentioned above involving Gallis and Frog FTK, siding into Anti-Meta would stop Dimensional Fissure and Dyna from being good. Fiendish Chain wouldn't be bad, but not exceptional. The point is that this type of change-up is how you should go about siding like you want to.
Of course, you could side into Fissures, but that's predictable and Cloudians don't suffer that much from it so I can stay in Cloudians and field/hand rape.
Siding into Dimensional Fissure would hinder 13 of your maindecked cards (3 Turbulence, 2 Kristya, 1 Lonefire, 1 Spore, 1 Dandylion, 1 Glow-Up Bulb, 1 Foolish, 1 Reborn, 1 Avarice, and 1 One for One). You could also argue against Rai-Oh remaining in the deck post-Dimensional Fisure. This large number would ruin Dimensional Fissure's use, and is one of the reasons that I chose to side in Dimensional Fissures when discussed earlier. You're also implying that you can consistently draw 2 non-searchable cards that you run highlander.
And, of course, Tour Guide takes care of a lot of problems that otherwise Cloudians would have trouble with.
Main it. Spirit Barrier is excessive at 3, and it wouldn't be too difficult to find 3 more spaces.
The only other side I can think of is into Agents with an extra reduced Turbulence engine so I can side into pure control and run Fissure if I wanted. I should then have just about enough space for some generic anti-meta.
I don't even understand how the Agent thing would work, nor do I care. Again, this doesn't cover up any problems by siding into Agents. Generic anti-meta? Name some of this for me. I'd love to hear.
.Rai
Generic anti-meta is basically the Brighton side deck in a nutshell. Just, of course, what you mentioned just more subtle. Hmm. Okay, I'll probably stay with some safer options for meta match-ups. I'll fit in Debris in a few secs.
