Crystal Beasts vs. Gladiator Beasts

Recommended Posts

I know very, very little about the TCG, so if there's an obvious answer to this please forgive me, I've never actually used either of these decks. But I was wondering which one is typically better (No cards banned or limited, I don't intend on playing in any official tournaments) between the Crystal Beasts and Gladiator Beasts for a new deck. The people I play mostly use the following decks: Zombies, E-Heroes, Meklord, and a "holy pile of random, Batman".

Now so this isn't a poll, discuss Crystal Beasts and Gladiator Beasts here, primarily these two cards:

Crystal Beasts are definitely better than they were before with the release of the Xyz Monsters. Cards like Summoner Monk and Sacred Crane, as well as Horn of the Phantom Beast and Reborn Tengu make the Deck a lot more consistent, but it's still missing a few pieces it would need to be competitive, mainly speed.

Gladiator Beasts on the other hand always seem to find a way to work their way back in, even if some of their cards are hit. They're a very solid Decktype that can pretty much allow you any option you need to take things out (Murmillo, Retiari, Bestiari), etc., with powerful Fusion Monsters. If you're looking to run one of the two I'd suggest Gladiator Beasts, as they're relatively inexpensive (I think the only thing you'd have to spend money to grab is a Retiairi and Gyzarus, along with the Tengus and Horns), and you'd have something competitive for around $100. It's not too bad.

I have nothing against Glad Beasts, but I prefer Crystal Beasts. It is easy to Xyz summon in this deck, plus Crystal Abundance can either win you the game very quickly or just mess w/ your opponent's strategy. This is just my opinion though. Another question:
What traps support/are good in a Crystal beast deck? I'm looking at the cards that would be be C.B deck and realizing there's not a single trap among them...

There aren't a lot of traps that support Crystal Beasts. However, I have been told that Bottomless Trap Hole works well.

That's the OTK version, no?

What about the Xyz version with Horn?

Yeah that version would run considerably more traps. Like Warnings, Horns and TT and whatever you have space for. I think anyway, I'm not exactly an expert on Crystal Beasts...

Some friends and I tried building it and trying various cards with it, you know, Monk, Tengu, Pegasus, Tiger, etc. It ended up being really inconsistent because in order to bring out the Xyz (which it could do realistically easily), you ended up making your Rare Values/Beacons almost worthless if you drew into them.

I'm far from an expert so I'm not sure where we really went wrong there.

Could it be that Crystal Beasts just aren't a good deck?

Cards like Crystal Blessing and Crystal Tree might get around that problem.

oh so like Crystal Beasts are actually probably better, since they have more consistency and stuff, but you would want to go with Gladiator Beasts since the best version of Crystal Beasts costs a lot of money, as well as being OCG (because of various extra deck cards).

But if you just want to make a budget version of CBs,

3 Sapphire Pegasus
3 Topaz Tiger
2 Carbuncle
2 Thunder King Rai-Oh
1 Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind
2 Summoner Monk
1 Chain Dog

3 Crystal Promise
3 Crystal Beacon
2 Rare Value
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
2 Pot of Duality

3 Horn of the Phantom Beast
2 Solemn Warning
1 Solemn Judgment
2 Dimensional Prison
1 Fiendish Chain
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Trap Dustshoot

Though I'm iffy myself on Chain Dog, in theory it should be easy to grab with a summoner monk play, and when you get out multiple beasts at a time, it will boost the efficiency of some of your Xyz monsters.

Also, I hate Summoner Monk in this deck, but I don't think you have a lot of money to afford Tour Guides, so that's your cheapest option for searching.
