I think the religion was acceptable to an extent, because its better than straight up "slavery is bad" in 20 different ways. Religion ways a form of justification in the past, and maybe in some parts today. However, I'm more interested in the slavery for debt idea. Sure it's still slightly practiced today, but I'd like to think it could be done properly in some way. Of course, I'd never mention doing it outside a catastrophic economic situation.
