Mind games in Yugioh

Recommended Posts

So I was at my locals the other day, using some random Agent build my friend lent me because I felt like it.

I have an Agent Earth, opp has a monster. He attacks.
"Damage step OK?" I say.
"Wait, before that. Activate Mind Crush: I declare Honest."
"Yeah, I don't have one."

He loses his BLS.

Discuss on mind games in Yugioh.

He must be really dumbass to actually do that =/

Saying only 4 letters leads to many mind games:

Gorz

"Going to use priority in your draw phase?" They mst thinking they will be at 3 cards in hand and hit my Dustshoot, then i chain Scape Goats.

Or

They summon something you have a dead set say "got to think" they think your set is TT, Warning, or Solemn.

There are obv much more but those are just some I do alot. I toped a regionals bluffing a Prison when my set was Dark Hole. He doesnt attack cuz if he does and Prison prison he loses. But if he attacked he would of won. I flip Dark Hole summon monster win game.

and without setting anything he lost his whole hand :o

Grapha sez nice play bro.

I like to f*** minds with Limiter Removal. The phrase "Declare attack" has made people scoop.

Was at locals and a guy (who happens to be UK Nats winner) had a Rai-Oh and opp had Honest. He attacked with Rai-Oh and said "I've got Honest" when he didn't. He bluffed it out until Utopia didn't have any materials left. Good players play mind games.

See I'm not sure on that. Because if you tell me you have Honest, I'd more than likely wait for you to actually use it. Why would you tell me you had it instead of just waiting until I attacked to catch me with the element of surprise? There's no point in saying "Oh, yeah, I've got Honest in hand, don't attack", because if your opponent attacks and you drop Honest, you're still safe (at least until the end of the turn).

I personally think one of the most interesting ones is Shi En, and SixSams players. Because Shi En can negate a Spell/Trap, you have to sort of make your opponent think you want them to negate your meaningless Spells/Traps, and they won't. I've done this with Dark World Dealings, discarded Grapha, destroyed Shi En, and moved on from there. They might think you're waiting it out. It's one of the best ways to actually topple the SixSams.

Gorz is another one. To sort of make your first play, do nothing, simply end, and then bait your opponent into thinking you have it to buy time. Then again, that won't always work and it could backfire completely, so you have to know when you pick your spots, I guess.

3 Chain Energy and 2 Toll(it was an experimental idea at today's locals) My opponent used Six Sams. Didn't know whether to attack or not. He ended up making the bad choice and getting his double shi-en tributed for Golem and losing.

Shien is limited.... owned

also chain energy and toll are bad, why would you use them :(
Not in my locals' format. They use their own. Chain Energy and Toll are actually great in Stall Burn. Especially in my locals' format where everyone is practically killing themselves because of toll.

hm. why are we acting as if winning a locals is some sort of achievement.

Basically, mind games in YGO is:

"wtf you were running glad beasts, not gravekeepers, game 1."
"lolihavehonest"
"lolihavekalut"
"lolihavedimensionalprison"
"lololololololololololololgorz"

Most of them use tier decks that you see in actual tournaments. That's why.

You just said there was a Six Sam deck. If the format in your locals has, what, 2 Shi-En? 3 Shi-En? Then, I can expect a lot of decks to be Six Sams. That's, like, not even this format.

meh, besides, a first turn Shi-En from him/her/camel would have negated those spells.

This too.

Pretty sure Fader is just a nuisance rather than a mind game. Saying:

"lolihavefader" wont change much. Fader's not much of a threat unless random Caius pops up. If you're winning with a bunch of pro monsters, pretty sure it's not a 'mind game'.
Implying I won't spam a card to keep my other cards safe. Also, in their format everything that is banned is limited. Everything that was limited is Semi'd. I've been in similar situations in the past when Shi-En wasn't limited.

How on earth is that even a legitimate format?

Mind games are pretty much non-existent when every deck should be Yata-Lock, Exchange of the Spirit FTK, or other ridiculous decks.
They've tried buying the cards for decks like that but just about everyone uses Ebay and they never make it to the "finish line" and someone outbids it or buys it first,
