But cigarettes don't inject their nicotine content into you and as such they won't instantly kill you upon your smoking them. What they will do is give you heightened mind powers. Sure you might compromise your health to whatever extent it might happen to be compromised, but realizing your dreams should be of greater priority than longevity.

Take risks. What's great health if you can't do anything with it because you're too paralyzed with fear of potential consequences?

yeah that's why people underestimate nicotine like that

because if you smoke one in a cigarette, you'll just get addicted

Where did he say you didn't?

He's telling you the benefits. For some people they outweigh the problems. For others they don't. Neither side is right and anyone from either side that seems to think that way is a genuine a******.

back in the 40s and such smoking was never really too much harm to you, mainly because they didn't put as much tar in the cigarettes as they do today

Rag, here's the thing. You have no right to control what another puts in their body. Limiting public use of something, yes, I can understand (though the only second-hand effect of marijuana is really that you smell it, which I personally think is kinda good). However, saying "You can't do this to and by yourself by your own choice because it bothers me even though it does not affect me medically," is just silly. People generally know the dangers going in. Like Ieyasu said, some people think that the benefits outweigh the negatives. You have no right to control the fact that they think that way.

I don't want to get into smoking; it had a big part to do with my dad's stroke a few years ago.
I can understand how people use it to maintain relaxation. I work at a restaurant and pretty much everyone smokes.

If you want to smoke, go for it, but don't drag me into it.

As for weed, I want to try it once, but only once, just to see what a high's like.
After that, I'm off the stuff forever.

I really recommend this. There's no physical addiction and mental addiction is only really possible if you use it to cope for things. Otherwise you'll be fine.

One thing I will say- your body tends to reject it the first time. I'd recommend using it twice if you want the real, unaltered effects.

of course not, you can only make recommendations, you can't force them to really do anything

you make the efforts, try and convince them, if they don't, that's their choice. I've been trying for my dad to quit for years without success

I wouldn't chance it if I were you
Your argument has basically boiled down to. "It might hurt you. I have no proof, but don't risk it. I mean seriously, I don't need proof, just don't do it," when it really is healthy if anything, when used properly. "Casually" doesn't mean "OH I'M GONNA SMOKE EVERY DAY AND SMOKE LIKE 30 LBS. A WEEK!"
If you don't have plausible evidence to support your point of view, then you're really not in much of a position to give advice on his decision, no matter what your personal feelings are on the subject.

i expected my family not to get lung cancer you twit

its supposed to happen to everybody except them
Yes, because we had the insight to know about your relative(s) lung cancer. Either way, personal matters are not relevant to the thread. Keep on topic. Also, weed is supposedly good for you, but only in moderation. Although, it does depend on the individual; let's say you smoke weed to the point you hallucinate but only small portions of weed make you hallucinate you probably shouldn't do it at all. Hallucinating can obviously lead to stupid, if not dangerous actions. There's been a recently closed case in which a man made a decision while high to rape and then burn down his best-friend's girlfriend's house. Although he may not have had the right frame of mind in general it was ruled that the hallucinogenic, namely weed, that brought out the decision to do so. These aren't my personal views, just interjecting a new view into the conversation. I don't have a source so just take my word for it, search if you're that desperate. It's not a personal view so don't lash out.

I never had a cigarette before, and I don't plan on having one. I've actually seen people smoking marijuana, and the smell is just awful. Half of my family smokes, and I just hate it because some of them smoke boxes a day.
that's horrible

My dad never even reached up to 1 pack a day and he still got placed into the ER for it

Really? I personally think marijuana smells quite nice. Meh, I guess people have opinions on smells and whatnot.

Regardless, I still further my point of not forcing people into not choosing what to do with their body. Tobacco is one thing (secondhand smoke and all), but the only real problems with public marijuana usage is the people who have no clue what moderation means, and the people who don't enjoy the smell.

I'm the only one, but this guy is annoying, he's telling me something i've thought for years, and thats why i've subscribed, he thinks like me, nonetheless annoying

And who came up with the idea that smoking is cool, i guess in a society desperate for classification of social status, smoking would be the best, most retarded thing to do to rate how great you are... sorry to that one smoker on the front page but you made some bad, bad decisions...

Yeah, it really did suck for me and my family, but that all happened in Brasil, so the government can possibly care less. That's the sad part.
yeah my mom's been trying to speak to my dad about this issue. She still hopes eventually he'll learn. Well, it's been almost 30 years, and counting.........
