You sound as if we are all at fault for the actions of individuals. Soldiers whose minds are very likely unstable after years of fighting against an enemy that they cannot determine whether is being aided or abetted by the citizens of the country they're in.
Whose fault do you think it is? If the soldiers' minds are "very likely unstable" as you say, whose fault is that? They're sent where they're sent by your country's government. They're trained as they are by the military for which your country's government is responsible. Your country's government and military are, in one way or another, empowered by your country as a whole. Why have they been empowered by your country as a whole? Because Americans are too content with their comparatively blissful lifestyles paid for in full by the sanguinary influence of your government and its military in other countries to denounce it. Those Americans who do not denounce the actions of their government and its military share the blame for the atrocities it commits.
And to say that we're going to disown our country is just like saying you'll disown yours. Face it. There's something your country does that your government should be ashamed of. Are you at fault? No. Are you going to disown your country? Unlikely.
I don't refer to the country in which I was born and currently reside as "my country" because I'm not a patriot. I disagree with the general ideals that have come to define the country in which I was born and currently reside. In this sense, I have already disowned that country. You can easily follow in my footsteps. Why you do not isn't for me to derive, the best I can do is guess.
Let me give you a quote from Mark Twain: You should show loyalty in your country at all times, and your government when it deserves it.
Quoting Mark Twain at face value in an attempt to prove a point doesn't make you look smart, it just serves to further suspicions of your general woeful ignorance. He was a cynical comedian. He wrote to make people laugh about how f***ed up various parts of life were. In the end very little of what he had to say was constructive.
To say that the actions of several probably angry and unstable soldiers shows the mindset and personalities of all Americans, as you have, is ignorant and pathetic. Please just stop now before you further make a fool out of yourself.
I never said anything of the sort, heighten your reading comprehension to prevent further associations of people with beliefs they despise. Americans are not at fault simply by being American, some are at fault and others are not. Those that encourage their government and military in its harmful international interventions are at fault, those who don't are not. "Your country" is its international relations. "Your country" has a lamentable track record and I would that it were changed significantly to adapt to the needs of other countries.

And I'm young. So you know what Polaris? I do care that these people were slaughtered in cold blood. And I care that they were mostly children. But there is not ANYTHING I can do about that.
Oh, but there IS something you can do about it. You can demonstrate to others that your value for America's image is only as great as how well it deals with other countries. You can assign your allegiance to the world as a whole rather than confining yourself to a part of it dominated by ideologies born of ignorance.
With topics like this, it's a terrible thing yes, but it doesn't automatically mean all American's are terrible people.
I never claimed that it had such a meaning. So often people represent me with self-created outrageous sentiments that I'd disagree with as passionately as they would. Try to understand me, don't debate illusions.
Honestly, we're no worse then the rest of you. However, we get all the heat because we have idiots running us who think we should be leading the world. For example, you're an ass, and I think that is a pretty good example of your country. People on the internet are all the same. "WE AREN'T FROM AMERICA, SO HA WE HATE YOU BECAUSE YOU SUCK AND ARE CRUEL TO EVERYONE."
The fault is with nationalism in general and the inability to treat all the countries of the world as inter-related, not with being American.
after seeing you, I have even less faith in humanity.
If you can convince people to adopt your perspective you won't have to depend on faith. Humanity is how people relate with each other. Don't abandon your hope for me until you understand me, as from what you've said I feel as though you haven't understood me.

You do know that "shooting someone with a gun" isn't how insanity is defined, right? That's not actually in the DSM.
Not only that, according to eye-witnesses there was more than one soldier and they were drunk and laughing. .-.

I'm sure after seeing friends and family massacred you'd be driven to exaggerate.

Show me a notable example of nationalism coming from a reasonably sized group of people, otherwise this is totally irrelevant.

I think the fault is with a man and his inability to refrain from murder.

Who would have more of a reason to lie? The drunk-ass soldier(s) who killed a family or the Afghans, you know, because it's in their nature to lie.

Well I'm going to assume he lied. At least about some things. People usually don't recount their own murders with perfect detail to the authority. And I didn't say that the Afghans would lie, merely that the shock of these events might affect their ability to recount said events.

He probably didn't just wake up and go, "I feel like shooting children today, because I'm evil. Mwahaha!"

It's very likely he just snapped and went crazy.

War is bad.

This is a possibility.

However, isn't there also a possibility that the military attracts psychotic fuckheads who just want a license to kill? So what does the military do with this psychotic fuckhead? They train him out the ass on how to use this weapon of ridiculous power that has been handed to him with grace, and a the end of it all he still gets called a war-hero by some.

I'm not saying that the seargent committed his atrocities due to nationalism, I'm denouncing nationalists for having priorities counterproductive to global prosperity. Or more specifically, being more worried about what people will think about what they call "their country" when a servant of what they call "their country" snaps than the people who died as a result of this tragedy and the people who have to deal with the aftermath. I was responding to a false accusation of ripping on Americans for being American when what I really meant to do was chastise the nationalists. Obviously being American in of itself isn't blameworthy because people can't help where they happen to be born.

I know. But there really aren't that many people that are crazy enough to sugarcoat this incident. I mean, they're out there, but it's not enough people to be a serious problem.

Although it is a terrible thing, my honest opinion is that it's collateral and if it means that one day we'll have a stable, secular, democratic regime in Afghanistan it's more than worth it. America should be credited for their apology but we must acknowledge the fact that no one picked up on his obvious psychological problems in the medical examinations.

This is what I hate, (I'm Canadian by the way). Some idiot american soldier gets bored and kills of some afghans. They get angry and take all their anger on the americans for this ONE IDIOT who doesn't even represent the vast majority of a generous country. That's like saying "Joseph Koney kills kids!" cut off all ties to Uganda! Then Nuke half of Africa for this one guy..... The same goes for this jerk. America is polite and apologized what more does Afghanistan want? Listen, Canadians and Americans have lost lives fighting for the damn place. So one crazy guy goes on a rampage and kills some innocents? The death toll from that is way less than all the lives lost from the U.S or Canada. I say suck it up. If you want to take it that far everyone can withdraw their troops and they can fight their own damn war. They can be worrying about civilians dying then. Let it go, the U.S. apologizes. Suck it up.

War is war. Civilians will die and frankly, I see no reason why America should care for afghan civilians. They never did, never will. It is just the same old hypocrisy that surrounds war.

I see a lot of reason they SHOULD care, it's just f***ing marines, man. Nothing honorable with that job. Just sadistic mofo's.

Whoa we got a [s]Badass[/s] heartless idiot here. This "Controversy" is stupid, as well as that post. Really? If we had no reason to care about the civilians lives why are we protecting them? This war which has cost billions of dollars and many lives...you see no reason why they should care? See this is the stupidity of some people that tick me off. You are no better than the guy who killed the civilians as you are just as heartless and stupid...

Why am I heartless? I never said I don't feel sorry about the civilians. I am absolutely against war, especially by wars started for a country to gainmore wealth and oil. I just said that the US government doesn't care about afghan civilians, when it comes to wealth, oil and their own safety, they don't even care about their own civilians let alone afghan ones. Please, understand the post before replying.

With all due respect, f*** "their nation" and f*** them for risking their lives for it, especially when its one with such lopsided relative prosperity already. They should consider themselves citizens of their WORLD and value the interests of people as a whole in every nation. Instead, they fight for a very small percent's right to enjoy lip gloss, dog food, and ice cream in the faces of those tortured by destitution.
Every year the United Nations Human Development Report looks for a new way to measure the lives of people. Putting aside faceless statistics like per capita gross domestic product, the report burrows into the facts about what children eat, who goes to school, whether there is clean water to drink, and so on. This year, the report takes its first look at what people have--from simple toilets to family cars--and what proportion of the world's goods and services are consumed, comparatively, by the rich and the poor. The pie is huge--the world's consumption bill is $24 trillion a year--but some servings are very small indeed.
The haves. The richest fifth of the world's people consumes 86% of all goods and services while the poorest fifth consumes just 1.3%. Indeed, the richest fifth consumes 45% of all meat and fish, 58% of all energy used and 84% of all paper, has 74% of all telephone lines and owns 87% of all vehicles.
The ultra rich. The three richest people in the world have assets that exceed the combined gross domestic product of the 48 least developed countries.
Africa. The average African household today consumes 20% less than it did 25 years ago.
The super rich. The world's 225 richest individuals, of whom 60 are Americans, have a combined wealth of over $1 trillion--equal to the annual income of the poorest 47% of the entire world's population.
Cosmetics and education. Americans spend $8 billion a year on cosmetics--$2 billion more than the estimated total needed to provide basic education for everyone in the world.
The have-nots. Of the 4.4 billion people in developing countries, nearly three-fifths lack access to safe sewers, a third have no access to clean water, a quarter do not have adequate housing, and a fifth have no access to modern health services of any kind.
Ice cream and water. Europeans spend $11 billion a year on ice cream--$2 billion more than the estimated annual total needed to provide clean water and safe sewers for the world's population.
Pet food and health. Americans and Europeans spend $17 billion a year on pet food--$4 billion more than the estimated annual additional total needed to provide basic health and nutrition for everyone in the world.
$40 billion a year. It is estimated that the additional cost of achieving and maintaining universal access to basic education for all, basic health care for all, reproductive health care for all women, adequate food for all and clean water and safe sewers for all is roughly $40 billion a year--or less than 4% of the combined wealth of the 225 richest people in the world.

Americans, Australians, Canadians, and Europeans who believe so adamantly that their particular small fragment of the world's population deserves EVEN MORE than the comically superfluous prosperity it already has that they'd die to that end are not to be advocated for, albeit praised and honored as they are. They are to be thoroughly chastised and educated along with those who would justify or glorify their crimes against humanity.

That being said, f*** you and everything you stand for (with all due respect of course). Next time you acquire money or any other form of power, at least pay heed to the commonplace murders and torture you'd be committing by indulging in commonplace comforts and consider those who remain of the victims' families.
