Why does it need to be generic? A lot of the meta is archetype based so why wouldn't I want to design cards for archetypes? IMO the sneak peak card should show off what the set is about, and by having something that ties into the set, and as such the sets main archetype, makes for the best card.

So something like this

I realise that your Dragon support card wasn't archetypal, but when it was obviously made for something, it counts like so. The one you just posted is interesting enough for a sneak admittedly. But, that would only be if the set was WATER based.

But you take the complete opposite for this set. In Galactic Overlord, when the only noteworthy thing is Hieratics, you don't want to encourage it. Because the set is not Hieratic-based, instead it just contains many Hieratics. You don't want to give people extra free ones anyway. If it were just Dragon-Type-based, but mostly generic (not archetypal), a clever sneak would definitely just be a generic Dragon-type support card.

Thing just shouldn't be archetypal in sneaks. Because:

1. If you're not running that archetype during the sneak, people who are have an immediate advantage.
2. You exclude people who don't even like that archetype.
3. You don't want to encourage play of the main archetype because people are immediately getting a card from it into their decks, and Konami misses a money opportunity.
4. With Galactic Overlord, the last thing you want to do is encourage Hieratics in the metagame anyway this early. It's already been proven a retarded OTK deck. Konami have enough logic to let the archetype play of its own accord. It doesn't even need encouragement.
5. Archetypal cards aren't interesting enough compared to generic, flavoursome cards.
6. The relation with the set has to be subtle.

With that last point, take Alexandrite Dragon. It's a Normal Monster. It's nothing special when we already have Gene-Warped Warwolf. Then you think it was made for the cover card, Galaxy-Eyes. Its interaction is subtle. The set is about 2000 ATK, and it's based on that, but on first sight, you get a beautifully flavoured vanilla monster that's playable in the sneak for absolutely everyone.

Artorigus works in a similar way. Its interaction is even more subtle, because it basically flows from this set to the next. Konami has a notorious record for making all their sets completely unrelated, but this is a good change. And a good economic move. People buying from this set have a better chance of buying from the next if they know about Artorigus' purpose. It's just a case of putting Galactic Overlord on a parallel path with this card, because you don't want to completely stuff someone's face with Hieratics anyway. At the sneak, it's just a beautifully flavoured vanilla monster that's playable in the sneak for absolutely everyone.
