Build you own small and powerful deck.

Recommended Posts

1

Look through the list of cards on the Yu-Gi-Oh website that are banned from official tournaments (see Resources). Take these cards out of your deck so you can replace them with stronger, playable cards.

2

Use a consistent ratio of monster, magic and trap cards. You will lose if you have five monster cards and 35 trap cards. A fair ratio in a 40-card deck is: 20 monster cards, 10 magic cards and 10 trap cards.

3

Use 40 cards and no more. Every draw should be a card that you will need; reducing the number of cards in your deck to the bare minimum can help you attack and win quickly.

4

Choose a themed deck and stick with it. For example, if you want to build a deck based on water-type cards, make sure most of your cards are of water origin. Having an elemental deck can help you pick and choose your magic and trap cards more accurately.

5

Choose your magic and trap cards in accordance with your monsters. For example, there are multiple cards such as Umi, Wetlands and Umiiruka that not only enhance all your water-type monsters but also decrease the power of every other monster on the field.

6

Pick and choose some Effect Monsters. These monsters, because they have a different function, do not have to follow your deck's theme. Monsters, such as Crystal Seer and Jinzo, not only have high attack powers but also have added effects that help to strengthen your deck. Jinzo, for example, negates the activation of all trap cards, which can help you keep Jinzo on the field and attack your opponent's monsters and life points.

7

Choose some monsters that do not attack or magic cards that stall your opponent. For example, cards such as Big Shield Gardna and Scapegoat have the ability to stall your opponent while you grow your forces. Big Shield Gardna, with 2,600 defensive points, can guard against most cards, while Scapegoat places four tokens on your side of the field for your opponent to stall on.

Oh my god I didn't know any of this at all, thanks!

...No, really. We all know this.

Not to mention, Umi, Wetlands, Umiiruka, Crystal Seer, Jinzo, and Big Shield Gardna suck, (and probably Scapegoat too, this format,) so it's not that you're good at deck-building either, at least right now.

Oh, and before you say anything more: I wouldn't mind if you stay in this section, but if you do, please do admit your mistakes and such. We don't like it when new people argue Dark Magician is better than Evolzar Dolkka.
