If you're too lazy to read a news article you really shouldn't be posting, so no tl;dr. I'm kinda on the fence for this one. Sure buying American helps our nation, but I'm not overly enthused about being told what to buy either.

I don't know if I buy anything American right now. o.0

Yes, buy Canadian stuff and bring more money to Canada M^_^M. But keep your oil in your own Country and dont buy Canadian Oil we need that. Also Obama is not going to win anyone over to his side for the election by making dumb laws like this.

I'll buy whatever product is the most effective price-to-quality ratio. tbh, I think giving preference to American companies isn't helping anyone. We live in a global era now, and that means they need to be prepared to compete in a global market. Government coddling just means they can get away with making shittier products and still stay in business.

And I'm not sure how "buying American" helps when most American companies have factories in Asia and Europe.

How about we go vote Communist this year. At least that would be certain enough to put everyone in the United States to work, whether or not the people live the same way. Banning American Manufacture is too self-conflicting with the goal of the Government. Both the Republicans and Democrats only care about battling each other, so wny not vote Communist?

Yes. And maybe it will rain money and cancer will magically go away and also world peace.

Communism would never work in a country as large and retarded as this one.

Well it certainly seems like a better plan than re-electing Obama....

Communism would only every work in a small, tight-knit tribal setting, where there's no room for greed.
Even then, it's kind of a stretch. :/

OT: Eliminating foreign dependency would be silly. We're already in debt to so many countries. To stop trading with them altogether would probably lower America's quality of relationships with various countries and, while there's next to no chance of a war, America can't really afford to have any less close allies than they already do.

Buying American means supporting the Secondary (Manufacturing) and Primary (Farming, Fishing, etc) industries, but they aren't as dominate as they used to be and it's the Tertiary/Services sector that needs supporting. Alot of countries turn to the developing countries BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) as well as the rest of Asia to provide cheaper products (Chinese employers are starting to ask for more money such as those working on Apple products), so the policy just isn't practical in the first place.

It worked back before American's companies started finding other countries cheaper to work in.
