Evilfusion Wind-Ups

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I broke down and decided to play around with Wind-Ups for a little bit. So far, the Deck's been extremely consistent in the past 10-15 games, only losing once or twice, and usually being close games in those cases.

But when I play with them, I can't help but feel there's something lacking, or that there's something very awkward about the Deck or playstyle. I don't normally focus all my effort on the Wind-Up loop, or Hunter much at all, for that matter, but the Deck is capable of doing it and has once or twice (Chain Burn is sad now).

Since I'm not really an expert on building Wind-Ups, I'm hoping someone else could maybe point out areas that are weaker or lacking.

The Deck's focus is on Xyzing, preferring to maintain resources rather than swarm all at once with the intent to kill the opponent and/or their hand. Furthermore, I use a larger Trap lineup than may be necessary, but that aids me a great deal with this playstyle.

I would suggest two of those Djinns;Teptempo and Muzurhthym. Temptempo is a great out to Xyz's and the other one can be a nice difference from Acid Golem because it can strike when you need it to. Then, it gives you an out to more situations. I've found Leviair to be somewhat useless in Wind-Ups because it's not often your stuff (aside from Rabbit, I guess) is banished, but then again, I haven't had as much experience with the Deck as I'd like yet, either.

Hmm...I'll look at them.

Leviair probably isnt needed. I used it once or twice, one case to weaken an EHERO the Shining by stealing my opponent's Stratos and Alius, but the move also got me a Rank 4 afterwards...will probably test that. Acid Golem killed Shining with impunity later.

Don't get me wrong, I like Acid Golem, too. But Wind-Ups function best as a Rank 3/5 toolbox, really.

These are the two I was talking about:

This one is good as an out to some Xyz and powers itself up in the process. The fact that it's a quick effect means it puts your opponent in a situation where summoning Laggia, etc., isn't exactly the best approach to take because you can detach upon summon, as well.

A lot of people don't like this one, but I think having this and Acid Golem gives you a variety of options and allows for a second beatstick if something happens to the Golem. Plus, you can use its effect on other Djinns if you needed to, so it offers another plus.

My suggestion are based on the real life Wind-Up deck my friend and I put together. He won his Nationals invite with it at Fort Worth and went to Day Two at Dallas. He would have went even further at Dallas, but the judges coached his opponent and jipped him on a ruling. But that's another story.

Anyway, my suggestions.

First off, you need a second Veiler.

-1 Photon Thrasher
+1 Effect Veiler

Second, I've found Soldier to be better than Warrior. But that's mostly preference. And I would do Kitten over the second Thrasher, but again, preference.

Now, onto the Leviar subject. KEEP IT! You can do amazing plays with! Use Rabbit to banish a Magician/Rat that's already used it's effect. Then go into Leviar to grab Magician/Rat and continue to do crazy stuff. It works REALLY well.

Also, lastly, maybe drop Judgment for a second Fiendish Chain?

I think I only used Warrior over Soldier because I felt Warrior was more flexible, since Warrior can turn a Level 3 into a Level 4 to become a Rank 4, but I only run 1 Warrior and it's rarely comboed with Rat without Shark or an actual Level 3 being available.

Also, Soldier has a bigger bite to it with 1800 base ATK up to 2200, so yeah, I'll swap them, see if that helps. Warrior feels awkward.

-Wind-Up Warrior
+Wind-Up Soldier

Photon Thrasher's actually been doing really well as an opening play, but I'll see how the Veiler and Kitten work out a few times before officially switching them.

I originally ran 2 Fiendish Chain, but then felt Veiler would help against a lot, so I swapped 1 Chain for a Veiler. Solemn Judgment seems a bit too good to take out.

Okay, will keep Leviair.
No. Keep 1 Leviair. They're going to try banishing your stuff so it's important to keep.

My only question: Do you REALLY need to run Photon Thrasher?

-1 Hunter
-2 Magician
-1 Soldier
-2 Photon Thrasher (wat)

+1 Rabbit
+1/2 Veiler
+2/3 Reaper/Snowman

-1 Factory

+1 MST

-2 Compulsory
-1 Fiendish
+1 Mirror Force
+2 Prison/Smashing (preference)

And of course you need Leviair, not only does it counter Bottomless and Crow plays, but you can do some combos with it and Rabbit.

General consensus is Photon Thrasher does nothing for the Deck. Will oblige.

-2 Photon Thrasher
+Effect Veiler
+Wind-Up Kitten (temporary, only for testing purposes).

@byak: Really? Removing 2 Magician and putting in another Rabbit? Isn't Magician one of the key cards of the Deck? And maybe it's just my style (at the moment), but I was worrying that Rabbit was clogging a bit at 2. Why is 3 better and Magician being reduced to 1? Hunter I fully understand due to it being so recyclable, and searched primarily by Zenmaity.

Because you only need 1 Magician? By the time you get to your second and third there won't be any better combos to make with it. Although I'd probably play 2 because of the Magician Shark combo with Daigusto Emeral. Without Emeral I would only play 1 though.

Why would Wind-Up Rabbit ever clog? That card is ridiculous on its own and drawing multiple copies is no big deal.

And I don't think Wind-Up Kitten is good at all.

I haven't quite tested the Deck enough to be sure of Rabbit's purpose other than Triggering Factory and/or Magician (and Rank 3 fodder, of course). Which is why I'm confused why Magician is being cut. I suppose it does that evil semi-stall Swarm with Rat.

Kitten probably isnt good. I'll probably just put it aside for Reaper or Snowman instead.

Let me know how the second Veiler and Kitten work over the Thrashers.

I understand keeping the Judgment. Maybe since you don't focus on the loop, drop the second Hunter for a second Fiendish chain? In my opinion, more than one Hunter is plain silly unless you focus on the loop.

As for the rest of the Monster line-up, you got that down perfectly. ^^

...I should learn to scroll down more before replying. .-.

Keep. Three. Magicians. Why?

Summon Magician. Summon Shark. Trigger Magician. Summon second Magician. Shark effect down to level three. Trigger second Magician. This right here will let you loop while still having field presence, swarm the field for game, or whatever you feel like doing. It's all up to your imagination.

Rabbit is fine at two. Yes, it's effect is quite amazing. But it's not needed at more than two.

As for Kitten (directed at a post that I don't feel like quoting), it's a personal choice that my friend and I use because it fits our play style. ^^
