Frenzied Dragon Turtle

Recommended Posts

This, is Frenzied Dragon Turtle. Intending to give EARTH Attribute decks a boost, and is based on the Legendary Affinity mechanic from MtG. One card in particular was very similar to my original design of this card, Mycosynth Golem from probably one of the most broken magic sets ever, Fifth Dawn. The idea, considering only one Monster can be Normal Summoned or Set a turn, hopefully gives this card the balance it needs, while remaining a flavorful boss monster. It also combos well with the beast support I have lined up later in my set, who play the Affinity theme. In case you can't be bothered to follow the link, Affinity was a special mechanic that appeared in the first Mirrodin Block from Magic: The Gathering. It reduced the cost of creatures by the number of artifacts they controlled, and it was a deck that utterly dominated standard at the time, and one card in particular, Arcbound Ravager was not included in From The Vault: Exiled, reprints of popular banned cards, due to it's incredible power.

While this card is in your hand, For each EARTH Monster you control, this Monster's level is reduced by 1. While you control this face-up Monster, all EARTH Creatures in your hand have their level reduced by 1.

A Level 9 monster, which means, you need 3 Earth monsters to make it a one-tribute monster. Or you can use The Trojan Horse to make it a one Tribute monster. The effect makes it similar to The Legendary Ocean, but as it only applies to your hand, it does not screw with Synchro / Xyz Summons. Statwise its sturdy, but not overpowered.
I have a question, though: Would Token monsters count for the first effect, for example, the tokens coming from Stray Lambs or Scapegoat? The effect does not specify non-Token monsters.

Tokens are treated as monsters right? , so as long as the tokens says they're EARTH, they are counted
(That's what i know) xD

For the card, I think the concept is good. Except for it being nothing but a beat stick, well maybe that balances him.

Nice artwork I must say. :)

I know that Tokens are monsters, but I wasn't sure if the effect was intended to work with Token Monsters or it was just an oversight from the creator of the card. And as I pointed out earlier, the effect which reduces the Level of EARTH monsters in your hand can help to bring out higher Level monsters - either for some raw power or Xyz/Synchro plays.
