Max Darkness
Since "LV" monsters are probably one the least-supported archetypes out there, fan-fiction possibilities required the creation of numerous support cards. Eventually, I decided to make them into their own archetype, to end up with the pair of archetypes supporting each other. The "Ascension" cards are mainly designed to eliminate the current weakness of the "LV" monsters, and to provide ways to bypass their limitations. Enjoy. Effect: Target 1 face-up "LV" monster you control, and 1 monster your opponent controls: Send your opponent's target to the Graveyard; That target is treated as being destroyed by battle by your target. The biggest problem I've constantly encountered while using a "Horus" Deck is getting "Horus LV6" out, only for it to be bounced or banished by the monster it attacks, or to be held up by something that can't be destroyed by battle or "Honest", allowing my opponent to get something bigger out. So this came about, allowing you both a direct attack with "Horus LV4" or "LV6", and a Level Up at the end of the turn. Effect: When a "LV" monster you control leaves the field, and a monster written in its card text is Special Summoned: Target 2 cards your opponent controls; When that effect resolves, send those targets to the Graveyard. Despite most lower-Level "LV" monsters having mediocre or downright low ATK and DEF for their Level, none have effects that can keep your opponent in check while you pursue the final trumps. Even then, only "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" has an especially devastating effect, with the others having constant costs or lacking efficient destructive effects. Hence, a pseudo-counterpart to "Icarus Attack" seemed a good way to keep the 'attack' going while still using your lesser monsters. Effect: Once per turn, while you control no monsters: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "LV" monster (from your hand). During your Main Phase, if your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters: You can send this card to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "LV" monster (from your hand). Simply put: A counterpart to "Herculean Power" and "Frontline Base". With an added sting for an opponent who cleared your field last turn. Best used with the "Dark Lucius" and "Ultimate Insect" lines, but the "Armed Dragon" and "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" lines would also benefit. Effect: Target 1 "LV" monster you control: It is treated as being Special Summoned by the monster written in its card text. The "Ultimate Insect" and "Dark Lucius" series both rely on the lower forms to grant them their effects. While "Dark Lucius LV8" is still useable due to its high ATK, "Ultimate Insect LV7" loses out to the more powerful Insect beatdown monsters. Their Attributes ("Dark Lucius" in particular) also are a source of problems, with a majority of their support being other Attributes. This allows you to bypass their more specific Level Up requirements, getting your trump out easily and avoiding those annoyances. It would be best used with "Surging Ascension" (see above). Effect: Reveal 1 "LV" monster in your hand and return it to the Deck: Target 1 Level 4 or lower monster (in your Deck) with the same name but lower "LV"; Special Summon that target. Another problem especially with the "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" line is that there is always the risk of dead-drawing "Horus LV8". A "Trade-In"/"The Graveyard in the Fourth Dimension" combo can be used, but that ends up bulking up your Deck, and without a searcher, such an act is less use than it could be. Since "Card Trader" and "Lighten the Load" both carry the possibility of re-drawing what you just returned (or a copy of one) and don't improve your field advantage, they are average at best. Hence, a searcher that can both rid your hand of something that is a liability while there, and possibly starting the Level Up process. Effect: Target 1 "LV" monster you control: It cannot be applied for your opponent's cards, until the End Phase. If that target leaves the field, and a monster written in its card text is Special Summoned: You can apply this card's effect to that Special Summoned monster. A constant problem faced by "LV" monsters is being bounced, banished or blown up by the monsters they have to plough through in order to fulfill their Level Up requirements. Or having the same done by the opponent's back row. Or having the hard-to-summon trump suffer the same fate. Thus, blanket immunity for a turn seemed like a way to balance the playing field. Effect: When an effect that destroyed a "LV" monster you control resolves: Your opponent loses Life Points equal to half the destroyed monster's ATK. Then, you can add 1 monster with the same name but lower "LV" from your Deck to your hand. When "Horus LV8" or "Armed Dragon LV10" falls victim to an effect, the large effort getting it onto the field is wasted. As such, this is designed to give you a small return whose 'burn' cannot be negated by current cards, and a possible re-start of the Level Up process. Note: The majority of these are Spell Cards to bypass the fact a lot of "LV" Decks use "Royal Decree" to eliminate one weakness of their monsters or to give "Horus" more effective power. Effect: When your opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card effect: Banish 1 "LV" monster in your Graveyard; Send that activated card to the Graveyard, and if you do, negate its activation and effect. Something that Konami seems unable to do is give its less well-known archetypes effective ways of protecting themselves. While the "Blackwings" and "Lightsworns" have a slew of Traps to choose from, Geminis, Spirits and the "LVs" have nothing of note. Effect: Target 1 of your banished "LV" monsters (You can choose to ignore that target's Summoning Conditions: If you do, when this effect resolves, your opponent draws 1 card): Special Summon that target. When this card leaves the field, banish that target. When that target is leaves the field, destroy this card. Mainly a way to recoup any costs (such as "Ashes from the Ascension" above) or anything lost to "Bottomless Trap Hole", "Dimensional Prison" or the "Chaos" archetype.
Ren✧
LV monsters are pretty under-supported, so I think allowing the monster to attack should be fine. Along with helping the Horus monster, it also helps Armed Dragon LV5(one of my favorites). This does fix the problem I too often encounter when using a LV deck and I totally wish Konami would make a card like this. I am not too fond of the picture though, just not very appealing...but that is more of a trivial matter.
