Brawl set. Most of the cards will be dealing with a duel mechanic that is not commonly found in the metagame, or through most of the Yu-Gi-Oh world. This mechanic is field position, dealing with the placement of cards, Spell and Trap Card Zones, and Monster Card Zones. I find that this mechanic incorporates just the right blend of skill and luck, and it seems it would be a lot of fun to play with. My OCG is not going to be great, so any help there will be much appreciated. Without further ado…
· July 1[sup]st[/sup], 2012: Set Creation

EN000: ??? EN001: SSB Brawler-Mario (Brawler) EN002: SSB Brawler-Ice Climbers (Brawler) EN003: SSB Boss-Ridley (Boss) EN004: Assist Trophy-Andross (Item) EN005: Item-Banana Peel (Item) EN006: Stage-Pictochat (Stage) EN007: Subspace Army-Primid (Subspace Army) EN008: Pokeball-Bellossom (Item) EN009: SSB Brawler-Fox (Brawler) EN010: SSB Brawler-Yoshi (Brawler) EN011: SSB Brawler-Diddy Kong (Brawler) EN012: SSB Brawler-Donkey Kong (Brawler) EN013: SSB Brawler-R.O.B. His effect is based on his Down Special Move: F.L.U.D.D. In the game, Mario charges up his attack and then releases a jet of water. This attack does no actual damage to the target and is only intended to stall. You must wait a turn to use the effect(charging) and then the effect pushes the opponent’s monster back into the Spell/Trap Card Zone. Mario can then not attack directly that turn, sparing your opponent damage.

Once per Duel: If this card would be removed from the field; it isn't. Well the Ice Climbers’ first ability is based on the fact that there is 2 of them, and they can be independent of each other. The second is also based on the fact there is 2 of them and they can attack independently. The last effect is based on their Down Special Move: Blizzard. This move freezes enemies that are in close range. That is essentially what the effect is doing, making the cards completely useless because they are ‘frozen’.

Once per turn, if this card is selected as an attack target; Negate the attack and move this card to an open, adjacent Monster Card Zone on your side of the field. With this move, Fox is able to dash to one side or the other, avoiding any trouble coming his way, moving to an adjacent Monster Card Zone is an obvious representation of this. The second effect is based on Fox's Up Special Move: Fox Fire. With this move, Fox becomes surrounded with flames and rockets off in a direction. Attacking directly is Fox 'rocketing off', and the limitation of any cards in the same column are the obstacles that might intercept Fox while attacking.

This attacking monster cannot be destroyed by battle. Not much else to say...

Can be Special Summoned(from hand) if you control a face-up "SSB Brawler-Donkey Kong". When this card is Special Summoned; Add 1 "SSB Item-Banana Peel" from your Graveyard to your hand. If this card is selected as an attack target: You can discard 1 card; Negate the attack and return this card to hand. If this card is returned to your hand by its own effect; Destroy the first face-up card on your opponent's side of the field in the same column as this card.
The first effect is largely due to the fact that Diddy Kong and Donkey are often used as a duo, especially in the story line. The second is based off of Diddy Kong's Down Special Move: Banana Peel. With this move, Diddy Kong pulls a banana peel out of nowhere and can use it...relation to the effect is obvious. The last effect is based on Diddy Kong's Up Special Move: Rocketbarrel Boost With this move, Diddy Kong can dodge an attack, or be saved from falling by being blasted into the air by a pair of rocket barrels. Along with being a supportive move, this attack can still do damage. Being boosted into the air is the returning to the hand and the destroying an opponent's card is the damage. I have incorporated some new OCG into this card. The new OCG being: 'Destroy the first face-up card on your opponent's side of the field in the same column as this card.' This means that the card destroyed can either be a monster or Spell/trap, depending on which one is first in the column. So if there is a monster and spell, then the monster would be destroyed while the spell is left alone. If it is just a spell in the column, then the spell is destroyed. Pretty simple. Can you see the loop with this card's effect?

Cannot be Special Summoned from the Deck. Each time a "SSB Brawler-Diddy Kong" is Special Summoned from your hand, this card gains 200 ATK points. During your End Phase, if this card didn't attack; Place 1 Giant Punch Counter on it(max. 3). This card gains 300 ATK points for each Giant Punch Counter on it. If this card attacks; Remove all Giant Punch Counters from it, after the Damage Step. If this card, with no Giant Punch Counters on it, declares an attack on a monster in the same column as this card; Destroy the Targeted monster without applying Damage Calculations.
The very first effect is really just meant to balance it out, so moving on. The second is an interpretation of the idea that Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are a duo. The rest of his effects are based on his Standard Special Move: Giant Punch. With this effect, Donkey Kong charges up his attack(waiting a turn to get a Giant Punch Counter) and then releasing the power in a single attack(removing the counters). The last effect is based on the fact that Giant Punch holds a lot of power in the realm of SSBB, in terms of sheer force, so it gives DK the ability to destroy opponents stronger than himself.

This card can inflict Piercing Damage. The correlation is fairly obvious. The second effect is based on Pit's Standard Special Move: Palutena's Arrow. With this move, Pit fires an arrow made of light. This arrow's angle can be adjusted, thus the being able to bypass the Defense Monsters. The last effect, probably the one that makes this card broken, is based on Pit's Up Special Move: Wings of Icarus. With this move Pit grows enchanted wings that can save him from falling off a stage or dodge an attack.

Once per turn: You can place the top card in your Graveyard on the bottom of your Deck(do not shuffle); Destroy 1 card in the same column or adjacent columns to this card. With this move, Link throws a bomb at another target. The effect is as if the bomb is exploding on the enemy. This bomb does have limited range in the game, thus the being only able to destroy monsters in the same or adjacent columns. This explosion does damage to any Brawler unlucky enough to be near enough to Sheik at the time. Thus the damage as well as avoiding the attack. Sheik has very low attack power and relies on dodging attacks and quick bursts to win a brawl. This gives reason for the low ATK and the effects that allow her to escape danger.

Once per turn; You can Special Summon 1 "Waddle Dee", "Waddle Doo" OR "Gordo"(from your hand or Deck. Waddle Dees are very simple and do very little damage, but they do push an opponent back slightly. Thus the moving the monster back. Plus, if you plan it right you can get rid of a pesky Spell or Trap Card. Waddle Doos shoot out electricity. Electricity is often associated with stunning. Connection is obvious. The OCG is most assuredly terrible on it. The effect is also questionable about whether it is balanced or not. Anyway, I will explain the effect. When you remove 1 Xyz Material, you return most monsters on your opponent’s side of the field to their hand. This is a representation of any of Ridley’s moves that slides across the bottom of the battle field, throwing players into the sky or off the field. Of course this is easily dodged by jumping or flying, hence Winged Beast’s invulnerability to the effect. The second effect is based on Ridley’s attack when he flies off the screen and then slams into the ground damaging any player within range.

I don't really feel like anything needs to be said about this card. I didn't want to make another vanilla for the Subspace Army, even though Vanillas are awesome, so I gave him a pretty generic effect for higher leveled monsters. It also keeps with the 'bad guy' theme, sacrificing your own forces to build on your own strength. I do apologize for the crappy picture, it was the best I could find.

Can only be activated from your hand. This is represented by the attacking monster being switched to Defense Position. In my defense though, I do believe it is a tricky effect phrase. Anyway, this item attaches itself to the target(if it hits) and then blows them up when the time runs out. Pretty obvious connection, no? I also think it would be fun to use in casual play, also it has the potential for massive burn damage.

Can only be activated if you control a face-up "SSB" monster. Once per turn: You can Target 1 Monster Card Zone your opponent controls; if the Targeted Monster Card Zone has a monster in it, return the monster to your opponent's hand, the Targeted Monster Card Zone is considered occupied as long as this card is face-up on the field. During opponent's 2nd End Phase after this card's activation; Destroy this card.
Seeing as Andross is one of the most annoying Assist Trophies in the game, I thought he would be my first to create. In the game, Andross shoots grey squares at brawlers. These squares smack the players around, does some damage, and is ultimately the biggest pain in the butt ever! The effect represents shooting the square at the brawler(monster) throwing it back(returning to hand). Taking up the Monster Card Zone is an added bonus as well as a mechanic that captures the sheer annoyance Andross brings to the game.

Can only be activated during your Main Phase 1. Destroy this card during your 2nd End Phase after this card's activation.
In the game, this Pokeball puts in Brawler that gets near it, to sleep. They stay asleep for a period of time, dependent on the amount of damage they have taken. Flipping the monsters face-down is an obvious representation of sleep and the limited amount of time on the field, is a representation of the fact that all Pokemon summoned from a Pokeball in the game go away after a short while.

Monster cannot be Set. Alpha Shadow
I am glad to see you have revived this set! I love Mario and Ice Climbers. I don't know too much on Xyz Monsters, so I can't help you there. Can't wait to see some more of your cards.

HulkTySSJ2
Looking good so far. It seems like your text boxes are different from the card maker here...are you editing the text on something different? My text seems to have shrunk a lot with updates.
I am using Yugico.com's card maker because it includes Xyz. I would normally just use Judas's template on GIMP, but I didn't want to put that much effort into it. Yugico's card creator is far superior to YCM's. Thanks for the comment.
Admiral Tim
Still love the cards, but the icing on the cake is the "Creator's Note". It really shows how the card and the brawler/stage/item are connected.
Alpakha
Yugico's creator more options but YVCm creator looks more realistic Anyways, onto the cards!! I have all but one thing to say.... Probably a Pokeball and then a Subspace Army card, that way all sections will have at least 1. After that I think I will focus on brawlers for awhile. So even though this Pop Culture section, I am still trying to make them have a little bit of use in the metagame.
