They keep on reporting on the same details over and over and over again that it ends up being a broken record player. I understand that it was incredibly tragic and one of the most lethal shootings, but in all honesty they don't need to keep reporting it 24 different times in the same hour. If I had a family member who was a victim in a massacre, I would feel distraught, but I really wouldn't want the same news to be reported, which will remind me of the terrible way that the person died. The news only focus more on the shooting and less about how the people felt. It makes it feel as though the murderer was a big-time star and hero because of all the attention he was getting. It should simply and plainly be showed like this: 1) Show what has happened, 2) See who has done it, 3) Converse with how the survivors and the families of the survivors feel, 4) More information about the event), 5) Memorial, 6) Possible impact, 7) Done with reporting on the event. Reporting the same events really isn't helping anyone (unless if it is one of those news shows that gets repeated during the day), especially those whose lives were impacted in some way by the events. bury the year Posted July 22, 2012 Report Share Posted July 22, 2012 First of all, I feel absolutely horrible about the deaths of the victims, and I have a friend in Colorado who was attending a midnight premiere 30 minutes away. Some of my other friends and I were panicking trying to get in contact with her because we weren't sure which theater she was going to. Unfortunately, this is probably going to have no effect on gun control laws in America. There's going to be a bunch of ballyhooing - "oh, a lot of people got shot, let's ban guns!" - but financial lobbying by the NRA and other pro-gun right groups are going to shoot them down. (No pun intended.) Heck, it's been over a decade since Columbine, and gun laws and public opinion towards guns have actually become more lax. There was even a law in Kentucky a couple of years ago (partially repealed now) that would have allowed [i]priests[/i] to carry firearms to the pulpit. Really? It's the culture we need to change, not the laws, and that's going to be a Sisyphean undertaking. Aurora isn't going to wake anyone up to the real problem: instead, it'll poke them a couple of times until they roll over and hit the snooze button again. Tentacruel Posted July 28, 2012 Report Share Posted July 28, 2012 This incident freaked my parents out when they first heard it since I was in another state at the midnight showing. I was also a little shaken up, but more than anything I am sad that someone would do such a thing. I'm also a little angry that people cry for gun bans after these things happen, as if things like this wouldn't happen if they tried to stop guns from getting sold.
