Menaphos
Hey there, I only just thought to myself after searching the web for YGO cards, I don't know any other than the few I used to have when I was a child. Remembering 6 years ago, when I was envious of my best friend for having the Egyptian god cards (don't even know if they're still rare?!). Anyway, back to the point... How have YGO cards evolved and changed? Is there a new layout & rule book? I last played in 2005.
Aix
You are in big trouble, my friend. The game has changed beyond recognition.
ihop
Konami introduced cool new White and Black cards. The White cards can be summoned from the Extra Deck by sending a new type of monster, called Tuner, along with other cards that add up to the level of the Synchro monster to the graveyard. Synchro monsters are very powerful. The Black cards are called Xyz, they are summoned by having 2 or more, depending on what the card specifies, monsters with the same level. It is summoned from the extra deck by putting these monsters under the monster. These monsters under the monster are called Xyz materials. Xyz monsters are even more powerful. evilfusion
I think attempting to summarize the changes to the game and mechanics since 2005 would take hours, while explaining almost nothing.
Menaphos
Oh dear god. So...If I were to start creating Yu-gi-oh cards...alot of research would be needed I presume. And I would have to re-read the entire rule book. (I also need to get my hands on a Deck, as I own no cards as of now).

You can do that by using Duelingnetwork.com.
Agro
If you last played in 2005, I would suggest only playing cards made up to 2005. /goatformatpost

evilfusion
Yeah, lot of learning and research. I came to the site like...3 1/2 years ago, and had to learn pretty much everything from scratch because all the knowledge I thought I had was insufficient for actual competitive playing and designing. I imagine you'd be fighting an even steeper uphill battle if you didnt at least devote a lot of time to playing the World Championship video games over the years. Strider Tigerwolf
Duelingnetwork is both your friend and enemy, but the best place. I also recommend at least reading 1-2 pages of new cards as well as look in youtube, keyword "OTK" and/or "FTK".
ihop
Duelingnetwork is by far the best place to go when you're still ineperienced and just want to learn to play the game to a decent level.
The Amazing Avian
The game is currently an exploitable mess with more loopholes than the American legal system. And yeah, what has been said about Dueling Network.
