Bad-People
I recently inquired about a primarily defense position archetype and here is the first in the series. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Siphon Shield Light/Level 4/Fairy/Effect/ATK 0/DEF 500 Appears as a white, almost porcelain, tower-shield with a china doll face near the top. When this face-down defense position monster is targeted for an attack by your opponent's monster decrease the attacking monster's ATK by half of its original ATK and increase the DEF of this monster by the same amount. ------------------------------------------------------------------- A little over powered but hardly invincible, makes a good first turn play. I'm also trying to think of a trap card, though not strictly tied to this card, would allow it to activate this effect again immediately reducing an opponent's ATK to nothing and really jacking up this one's DEF. Bad-People
Spiked Barricade Trap/ Continuous If a monster attacks a defense position monster with greater DEF than the ATK of the attacking monster the attacking monster is destroyed. newhat
Spiked Barricade exists as Continuous Destruction Punch. Siphon Shield is all right. It does 500 damage once, drains ATK and sits there as a wall, but it's not completely immune to battle and Papilloperative anihilates it. I suppose you could turn it into Fairy Cheer Girl if you drop another Level 4 Fairy somehow. I can't think of a Set monster that has synergy with it that your opponent would want to attack (for a painful opponent choice).
Bad-People
Well it isn't exactly like Continuous Destruction Punch as it's a trap and it affects both sides of the field, not just yours. And here's something that can make Siphon Shield much more dangerous... ---------------------------------------------------------------- Shield Bearing Imp Dark/Level 1/ Fiend/ Union/ ATK 100/ DEF 250 Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can equip this card to a Siphon Shield you control as an Equip Card, OR unequip it and Special Summon it in face-up Attack Position. While equipped to a monster by this effect, Siphon Shield can be switched to face-down defense position once per turn during your main phase. (A monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster would be destroyed, this card is destroyed instead.) ------------------------------------------------------ Since Siphon Shield doesn't loose it's DEF bonus from being switched face-down, it can keep building it up continuously. newhat
Normally a monster does lose any bonuses upon being flipped. But if you say so, that's how it be. The Union monster cannot be equipped to a face-down monster, so as soon as you use the effect, Imp will be destroyed. Also...There's no reason for your opponent to attack Shield if they know what it is.
uberkrasch
Well it isn't exactly like Continuous Destruction Punch as it's a trap and it affects both sides of the field, not just yours. This means continuous destruction punch is better... Siphon shield i find interesting and balanced. However it would lose its bonus and equip when flipped face down like newhat said. Bad-People
Okay EDIT: Siphon Shield Light/Level 4/Fairy/Effect/ATK 0/DEF 500 Appears as a white, almost porcelain, tower-shield with a china doll face near the top. When this face-down defense position monster is targeted for an attack by your opponent's monster decrease the attacking monster's ATK by half of its original ATK and increase the DEF of this monster by the same amount. This effect remains until the monsters are destroyed. Also...There's no reason for your opponent to attack Shield if they know what it is. There's still plenty of reasons if you play your card right like "Call of the Earthbound" for example.
newhat
This edit makes it less good. That wasn't needed. There's still plenty of reasons if you play your card right like "Call of the Earthbound" for example. If you use up a Union Monster and a Trap Card to do 500 damage and re-use the effect of a monster whose effect you already used, you have gained no advantage. Practically speaking, you'd also need another monster to make your opponent attack you so you can use Call of the Earthbound. Why not make a card that does all of this at once?
