Makο
I have a story currently in its planning stages (even though I've already begun to write out the prologue of sorts, just to test my style) that I'm very interested to work on. However, before I get too into it, I want to make sure it's not TOTALLY dumb. Sure, it's pretty dumb, but still.
In the not-so-near-but-sort-of future, humanity has taken to the stars. However, due to the lack of any substantial fuel source, humanity has yet to travel beyond its own solar system. That is until, however, mining operations beneath the ice of Europa changed everything. An alien artifact, eventually discovered to be a data storage device, detailed the schematics for a wormhole generator; a machine capable of warping a vessel anywhere in the galaxy if given the correct coordinates. However, randomly typing in numbers and pressing the go button seems foolhardy at best. Thankfully, within the original storage device contained another document: one giving thousands of different coordinates. With the Inner and Outer colonies filling up, and with resources on many worlds running thin, action had to be taken. Under the watchful of the New United Nation, the Military-Science Coalition created a special task force for exploring these new, uncharted worlds, along with a fleet to go along with it. Among these brave men and woman were the cream of the crop: the Travelers. Piloting special JA/JC01-STALLION starfighters, these pilots are the first to explore each of the new coordinates, always detailing what they find. Be it an inhospitable lava planet, a strange pillar out in the middle of space, or ending up smack-dab in the middle of a nebula, the Travelers will make sure it's safe for the rest of the task force, lest the entire force be wiped out by wandering into the path of a hypervelocity star or something. This story follows the travels of one such Traveler: Lawrence Harrison. It'd basically be an episodic sort of thing, with each episode either being short tidbits or long epics having to do with an interesting world. Basically a collection of your adventure-of-the-day things. Of course, there'd be an overarching plot, but let's start small for now.
So yeah. Any good? newhat
There's nothing wrong with it, but until you give an example world or story, the concept seems ferociously uninspired.
Makο
Very true, good sir. I sort of intend for it to be a LOT of worlds, due to the nature of the whole thing, so it's hard to give an example of just one. I also plan on it to start off slow and build a story from there, so it's also hard to give an example of story. I'll continue writing the beginning pieces, and by the end of the first episode (each new world explored will be given its own episode), I'll post it. See how it holds up. Makο
So. I was in the bathroom, reading Bakuman (judge me not!), when I suddenly thought "Heh...it'd be cool if my story got turned into a manga." So I sat there thinking about it for a minute, before it hit me. That wouldn't be interesting. In the slightest. And then I realized it wouldn't be interesting in ANY medium! "But," I thought, "Star Trek: The Next Generation has that sort of 'story of the day' thing. How can mine seem so...dull, yet theirs be so exciting?" Upon finding the answer to my question, I felt like an absolute disgrace to my genre, as well as my medium, for not realizing it sooner. So. I'm starting anew. With this knowledge in mind, perhaps something I make won't suck now. ... In other words, lock please.
