Zazubat
It feels like this was forever ago, but it was only in February that I made my Essaia Archetype. It was based around the S/T Card Zone, and at the time, I thought it was pretty neat, and it was one of my favorite of my own. So I'm rebuilding it now. If you wish to view the original, it's still up, so, eh, go and do that and stuff. As always, my Archetypes always feature silly gimmicks in the names, this is quite simple, a portmanteau of Psychic and Chess (hurray for creativity) and what chess piece they are (I must be some kind of mad poetic genius). The card here itself is pretty simple, it's a start. I don't know if I'm gonna follow what the first does, or gonna do something totaly different with it, but you know, that's the thing and the stuffs. God I'm tired, I must go to bed after this is posted. Cannot be Special Summoned, except by the effect of a Psychic-Type monster. When this card is Normal Summoned: Set it in the Spell & Trap Card Zone. During the End Phase of the turn this card was Set in the Spell & Trap Card Zone by the effect of a “Chessic” monster: You can Special Summon this card from the Spell & Trap Card Zone, and if you do, until the end of the next turn this card is unaffected by card effects. Ren✧
Hard to say without seeing the entire archetype, but from what I see the card is slow and risky. I have a question first off, can the monster be destroyed by an mst and the like while in the s/t? I still consider it slow though, and the flavor seems to be off. A pawn with so much ATK power? I feel as if it would have lower ATK points as well as the ability to bring out another chessic monster from either the s/t or hand/graveyard. Or perhaps have an effect when destroyed. Too slow to be of any actual use alone, I think. Sure, immunity to card effects, but it makes it so you can't xyz summon/synchro/attack/etc with it the first turn it is normal summoned and then the restricted special summon makes it even more difficult to use. An interesting idea, but one not worth the while.
Therrion
I agree, the Pawn having a lot of ATK seems quite off. The idea is nice, but why Set the card? Why not put it face-up? Wouldn't setting it make it "forget" its effect, or something upon the lines (I don't know what rule I'm referring too, but I know that alot of monsters "forget" stuff when they are set)? The fact it takes a turn to Attack is somewhat silly, and the immunity to Card Effects doesn't do much for it considering they wouldn't waste one on it, assuming you don't Torrential it yourself. Also, I imagine a Pawn wouldn't mind getting killed, and as far as this card goes, it has nothing to do with being offed. It just doesn't relate to Chess as much as I think it could. It might actually do that. I just had the idea in mind it would just leave a state of which the effect can be used since it says "during the End Phase of turn this card was Set..." but it might not do that. Anyway, I simply did this because the original Archetype played around with stuff in the S/T Card Zone. After reading what you two had to say, I might end up taking it in another direction in general, and the ATK should probably be lowered, I just thought it was alright because of it's annoying summoning conditions. Therrion
Oh, no doubt. With those Summoning conditions, you could probably go to 2000, it just wasn't flavorful as far as your idea goes. Pawns are weak, and thus, shouldn't have amongst the highest stats for a card of their level, it isn't that flavorful.
