Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis

2 Level 8 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Tribute any number of monsters from your hand and/or your side of the field (minimum 1), then destroy an equal number of cards on the field.

For no particular reason. Discuss this very decent Rank 8.

It's the boss of Hieratics, obviously.

The problem I have with Heliopolis is that the decks that can make it aren't good at maintaining advantage, and by getting its effect off you're essentially draining your resources even more, therefore investing sooooo much into this card that if it dies you're fucked.  If we gave a Heliopolis to a rank between 2 and 7, it would be a maaaaaaaaaaajor shitstorm.

It's the boss of Hieratics, but the Deck itself doesn't want to use it. I find it much better in Galaxy Decks and the sort, as an out to things that Galaxy-Eyes can't handle. I'm much more likely to Summon Tachyon, though, and Overlord doesn't mind Tributing Photon Tokens.

Tributing Photon Tokens off of this feels soooooooooo good, omg, people never see it coming and their reactions are hilarious.

The fact that it is LIGHT is pretty nice for Photon Sanc, and very usable in Blue-Eyes, since it can get stuff in the hand to the Graveyard, such as White Stone and Eclipse Wyvern in the Graveyard. It also got very decent stats. And it of course works well with Hieratics, even though the Rank 8 build is kinda meh.

It's a solid enough card and it's certainly the best Rank 8 currently printed, or at least the most splashable. At the worst, it's a Rank 8 Diamond Dire Wolf if you're really struggling to deal with something e.g. D Fissure against Darkworld.

I personally like Tachyon, String, Thunder End and Giant Killer a more, but that's just my opinion.

Tachyon is admittedly quite good, String and Giant Killer haven't been printed yet and Thunder End isn't good yet. You'll have to forgive me, I onyl ever play IRL and don't know anything about cards that haven't been released yet. But you're right, Tachyon is probably better than this.

Speaking from my personal Photon Opinion:

Strings is pure and utter garbage sorry to say. At least for Photons. No clue about for Gimmicks.

Tachyon is situational, but given in decks like Photons going into the extra is a last resort, it's not so bad for it.

Thunder End would be the best if it were generic.

Giant Killer and this are on about equal terms, both giving you extra deck outlets to stuff Galaxy-Eyes can't hurt. This has the stats and attribute, as well being able to hit a lot more in scope, but Giant Killer backs Volca burn, and it becomes a +1 off of it's effect more easily than Helios.

The best overall is Felgrand though. Because it's the only one that's objectively good as a card. Rather than subjectively good as a rank 8.

But yeah, it's an alright card. And is generally the Rank 8 you see most often as things stand.

If we're talking about Heaven's Strings, it was printed as a promo, same as Destiny Leo. I suppose if you're not in North America, though, you're right on that. Giant Killer will be out in Number Hunters, though.

Only thing Heaven's Strings really has going for it is being a Gimmick Puppet. Otherwise, it's outclassed by this and Tachyon. Tachyon is probably one of the best generic Rank 8s right now, with this also extremely good.

strings is a LIL better than people give it credit for, in that the effect can cause a lot of pressure on the opponent and force them to make suboptimal moves to avoid what can be game-winning damage. its still not very good though.

also, barring examples where a card takes out more cards when it goes (coth, equipped stuff, safe zone, etc) heliopolis will always be a 0.
