heraldry_lord Posted July 6, 2013 Report Share Posted July 6, 2013 Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo [Rank 8/DARK/Machine/Xyz/Effect/ATK 3200/DEF 2300] 3 Level 8 monsters Once per turn, if you have no cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, and if you do, place 1 Destiny Counter on this card. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect. When 3 Destiny Counters are on this card, you win the Duel. Known as Destiny Leo in the OCG, we have here the only Duel Winner to come out of the ZeXal era so far, and his anime effect was so broke, he got watered down to what you see here, a Duel Winner that can only do his thing effectively against pure stall. There was a Norleras - Dark Creator combo I saw that would get this out, and put dem Destiny Counters on him while the opponent is still in top-decking mode. He's also a neat 3200 beater for his own archetype that Dreary Doll can access, and him + Limiter Removal can be a thing. The biggest problems with him are when your opponent kills him when he has 2 counters, or when they steal him and put the 3rd Counter on him. But NEGPD already exists and is bigger. Not to mention Rank 8 decks don't go into the extra normally for just beaters. He's also forever got IV's Mistake associated with him.. which sucks for him. When did I claim he was balanced? Did I say he should have been released like THAT? Did I? What makes his IRL version largely impractical against anything but stall is the fact that you can't use permanent backrow with him. Anyway, it's an interesting take on an alt win, but it probably isn't worth it considering that you can't have any Spells/Traps to back him up. Destiny Leo was IV's method of compensating for himself being an inexplicable moron. Leo was only NEEDED because he was a moron, but the monster itself is free from that stigma. Scissor Arms is not so lucky, but is spared because its RL effect has nothing to do with Equip cards. Yay. Or becoming Level 8. Boo. The anime effect was hilarious. "When it has 0 Overlays, you win". Um...that's not abusable in the slightest. This card is also inexplicably expensive. It costs like $27, making it one of the 4 TCG Numbers currently out of my price range. The big difference between your version and the real version is that your version says nothing about not having backrow when you detach. That is a significant difference. 玄魔の王 Posted July 6, 2013 Report Share Posted July 6, 2013 For my own personal rewrite, I changed this card's effect to simply need to resolve 3 times, not using counters but not having to just exist with no ORUs.
