Dragunity Knight - Trident

You're probably wondering why this is in the wrong section. That was on purpose, because this topic isn't designed to generate [much] talk about Trident. Instead, we will be looking at what Trident is supposed to be doing: Extra Deck destruction.

Extra Deck destruction is something that Konami has only covered very sparingly, as in the number of cards that do it are highly likely to be in the single digits (I think there are what... two cards that do something like this?). Since this is uncharted territory, you all must go discuss the standards of Extra Deck destruction. Should it be allowed? If so, how should it be done? If monsters carry such effects, should these effects be typically reserved for boss monsters or can it be given to something like TKRO? You must type up a 5 page essay on this subject and turn it in by next Monday.

Personally, I think that if such an effect should come about, the low-level monsters should only take out one random card while the privilege to choose what to get rid of and/or get rid of more should go to bigger monsters. And if the "randomly sends 1 card from the Extra Deck to the Graveyard" thing comes about, we would have to start shuffling out Extra Deck. That'd be weird.

To be frank, extra deck destruction is a theme that was useless back in the fusion days, when it was coined up, but that can be quite powerful in the current meta.

Let's be honest, what do E-dragons have when you get rid of their Dracosaccks and Big Eyes? Likewise with Constellar and Lavals and basically all current meta decks - it's just something that's too good to lose.

Personally I don't like Trident because its cons outweigh its pros. I honestly can't think why you would want to send three cards you control to get rid of a potential extra deck situation that the opponent might be ploting - yes, extra deck is important, but not to be put against cards you control.

The thing that I like trident for (besides the extra deck destruction) is the power of strategy that he employs. For most current decks, extra decks are essential, and this guy can serve as a bait for that face down bottomless / warning. But, I just don't think that's worth the 2 materials and the extra 3 cards.

If he were a level 4 FLIP Effect monster, I might have seen potential in him. Otherwise, he's just wasted paper to me.

BTW, this becomes broken if the cost becomes to discarding 3 cards rather than sending 3 cards you control to grave.

As extra decks become more cramped, people are forced to diversify their extra deck.  What does this mean?  It means that 3 hits at the extra deck becomes a more potent effect.  Unfortunately for this guy there is strong speculation that Konami will increase the extra deck size, decreasing this guys ability to prevent plays.
