Match Winner Make-over Project
by Kyng

With the new Match Winners announced, I decided to strike up a new challenge - to turn Match Winners into more plausible, TCG-friendly cards! The Match Winners are a series of monsters with a special effect that allows them to win the entire Match if they decrease the opponent's Life Points to 0 with a direct attack. A common effect that the Effect Monsters in this series share is that they cannot be Special Summoned and can only be Tribute Summoned by Tributing three monsters of the same Type, with the exception of the Synchro and Xyz Monsters.

With the exception of "Victory Dragon" (which is Forbidden in Advanced Format, and in the OCG), all of them are Illegal for respective reasons. The goal of this challenge, however, is to give these cards a Make-over. These different from re-trained cards because unlike re-trained cards, this will only change the Match Winner's effect from a Match Winner into something else and will keep all other stats.

Recurring themes for this challenge with each of the monsters will be the following:
1 - Only Official Match Winners that are Illegal, and have been released up to the point of finishing the challenge, will receive a Make-Over. This list excludes Victory Dragon, whom will be referenced solely for explanatory purposes. Any future Match Winners may not be features. A list of them have been provided here
2 - All Effect Monsters will share a variable Tribute Cost. This will enable them to be played with more versatility.
3 - All Monsters will have variable effects akin to Dark Hunter's in which depending on the number of Type appropriate Tribute/Synchro/Xyz Material used will determine the card's effect. This is to encourage flavour to the original cards. 1 or less Type appropriate fodder monsters will have a negative effect. 2 will have a positive effect. 3 will have a powerful effect. The appropriate Types are dependant on the original cards' effects.
4 - Cards will be uploaded in Alphabetical Order, but only if artwork with enough quality is available. Later cards will be added when this new artwork is available.

I hope you enjoy the cards I re-vamp!

Aggiba

Since it not only requires 3 Tributes to Summon, the equal amount to what a God Card requires, the 3 Tribute effect should be amazing. I don't want a game ender, but I want you to get very well rewarded, and this has been nearly executed. As opposed to an entire BP Skip, perhaps just making other monsters not be able to attack would suffice, thus hitting for 3K. I mean, 3 Tributes are already given amazing effects. 3 Type specific tributes should be better or on the same level (Oh, Batteryman OTK uses less cards then this card, btw). The other 2 effects seemed perfect to me.

Arament

The 2 Effect is pretty much better than the 3 effect. Ultimate Tyranno can't kill a monster then hit directly, however, Cyber Twin can. Perhaps make the last a Kachi Kochi-esque effect, attacking again and again but upon hitting directly won't hit directly again. Also, the protection provided via 2nd effect is more versatile then the 3rd. Stall cards, like Gravity Bind (for lack of a better example) are stopped by this effect whereas Gravity Bing goes on untouched by the 3rd effect. You could perhaps make the third also negate the effects of S/T. That would also go to stop Messenger of Peace, for example.

Will return to comment on Chimaera (one of the best artistic pieces in the game) later--- like the entire idea and the approach you have at it, Kyng.

Thanks for the feedback Therrion. I've made changes as you've suggested.

New Cards added (effects written in OP):

EDIT: Immediately noticed Grizzly's incorrect stats. Will fix when uploading next cards.

I like what you're doing but I guess you shouldn't. I think it's good to have cards like this. There are not too many of them and seriously it's pretty hard to Summon them and you have to attack the opponent directly in order to win so even if you do Summon them, you'll have to somewhat time the Summon in order to win the entire Match with them.

If a card is illegal, it means it cannot be used in tournament play or other formal duels, though illegal cards may be used in informal duels at the agreement of all participants. Match Winners are illegal. These cards are simply counterparts that could potentially see this play, albeit hypothetical since these cards cannot be used in tournament play either, but I'm thinking how these cards will affect the theoretical and conceptual significance in the game in place of the originals.

Also, Match Winners create Scooping situations. This article is all you need to read to understand how these cards serve as better counterparts in replacement for Match Winners: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Scoop. These cards can worm around that sticky situation to a degree.

With this said, I don't think anything you've said suggests I shouldn't do this.

Well Grizzly is a Synchro Summon not a Tribute Summon. Their actually pretty useful. Assuming you Tribute Summon them with out Tributes(assuming it's like King Fog) you can Xyz a Rank 9, 9, or 10.

I personally like all of their effects. They can become exceedingly devastating. Particularly Armament under the right conditions it can prove more destructive than Agibba.

Keep up the Good Work! I plan on using these on Duel Portal >:)

I like these, though as stated previously, Grizzly can't be tribute summoned. This actually reminds me of a project of my own from years ago, where I made new MAtch Winners so that there could be at least one of each type. (Psychic did not exist back then) I tried to come up with a new effect for them, but really all I did was make them win the duel rather than the match. Hence why I like these new effects. Keep it up!

Emperor of Lightning

The effect is decent, at best. An End Phase destroy of backrow is horrible, to be honest, as it isn't when you need it (which is before making a major play, which has already been done if you Tribute Summon this guy, or before BP, which is before EP). The 3 Tribute expansion of the effect to monsters does little to make a player want to -3 for a 2600 monster. The stats are lacking on this match winner, and thus the effects need to redeem it (and quite frankly, they don't). As for what the effects should be (suggestions, of course) in my eyes would maybe use the term "Send" as opposed to "destroy" and perhaps make the 3 effect up to 2 (if you keep it during the End Phase). Alternatively, just make it ignition and use the term "Send" and it should be fine (at the very least better).

Grizzly

The 2 Condition makes it interesting for Scrap, Scrap Chimera being able to Normal Summon and retrieve Scrap Beast, going into this and having this then recycle the Chimera for next turns Synchro Summon. The 3 effect is underwhelming, there being better options to go into at the generic Level 8 slot than this effect. Imagine a "1 Beast Tuner + 2 or more non-Beast Tuner monsters" and tell me if you would run it if all it did was a single Special Summon (I imagine, from a competitive standpoint, none).

Sorry if all I ever say is "make it better", I just feel as though you're starting these off weak to stay in realistic realms, when in reality, 3 Tribute monsters are always amazing in game (and that isn't even Type-Specific).

The ATK/DEF Stats has already been addressed by you, and the fact you put "Tribute Summon" as opposed to "Sychro" has been noticed also (dat copy/paste).

I LOVE Xexex! I do think that you should make it more apparent when the 3rd possible effect activates though(currently I assume it activates once you summon it??) I think Agibba is more fluid now however when compared to Xexex it's best when you're on par with your opponent OR when you're in a victorious position. The Xyz monsters are a little strong, however based on the mechanics of Xyz Summoning it's not really too bad.
