~British Soul~
This should go in the Q&A thread, but yes you can.

:^)
It's beyond ridiculous, recycling cards back into your Deck, then having the chance of drawing them and Special Summoning them. Without a drawback it was too good.
Zauls
they even banned it?why? Because its an easy +1 and recycles all the cards you used from a power play so you can make the same play again. It also makes card advantage out of big plays and big summons of Synchros etc, which really should stay at a +0 at the most because you're putting in a lot of stuff to get out one powerful monster. All in all, it was definitely ban-worthy.
Lonk
Some people (i.e. my older brother who hasn't gotten into Modern YGO) even argue that this was worse than Pot of Greed. Though, while PoG does have the advantage of never being a dead draw, PoA has the ability to recycle any 5 monsters in your Graveyard for future use. Needless to say, they both deserve the banhammer. So, it looks like Hitler's influence has been stopped in the TCG as well.

Pot of Duality is at three, so getting rid of Avarice, which is one of those cards you sigh when you see, seems like a good exchange for an extra Duality. The only similarity is the draw 2 thing and that they are both [s]on pot[/s] "pots". They have completely different uses and one can be better than the other depending on the situation. They are both broken but in a different way. Though I think the main difference is that Avarice is made broken by the decks that can abuse it, but Greed is just inherantly stupid. But think about it in context, Greed was made when the game was new, now we see it as ridiculous that they'd make a card with no drawback, and we can look at Avarice, it can slow down a really fast game, but the fact that it has no "Pay x Life Points" or even "Discard 1 S/T card from your hand." They are both Normal Spells that allow one to draw two cards, and their names reference greediness in some way. Also note that Avarice was originally intended to be a replacement for Greed, since the September 2005 banlist banned Greed. What main set was around that list change (EEN), and what card debuted in it (Avarice)? Avarice was just slower for the need of recycling monsters back to the Deck, but the absurd speed of which monsters get sent to the Graveyard nowadays makes this generally splashable in Decks that can use it. mido9
Honestly, in a format without a lot of spam engines like mermail, it'd probably be just fine at 1 or so.

I think this became fairly obvious once Pot of Duplicity, its "balanced" counterpart, was made. I will miss Avarice, but I know I shouldn't because it never deserved to exist. evilfusion
The game wasn't that fast in EEN, when Avarice debuted. Synchros and Xyz, and in fact, the entire playstyle of sending monsters rapidly from your hand, Deck, and/or Field to bring out big monsters, didn't exist then. Returning 5 monsters from the Grave to your Deck was NOT a cinch to do, and Avarice was dead until you had 5 monsters in the Graveyard. It was a very cool card, but not broken when it debuted. In fact, Avarice didn't really even see much limitation until Synchros and the support started focusing on Special Summoning lots of small monsters from your hand or Deck (and Graveyard) in order to bring out valuable Extra Deck monsters that, when destroyed, would like to return to the Extra Deck and be used again. When cards like Reborn Tengu and Lonefire Blossom, plus TG/etc started seeing major play, Avarice not only let you draw 2 cards, but it let you recycle your entire combos without losing a thing. Making Avarice live was laughably easy and still is, maybe even moreso now, even at 1. It was a card that was overdue for a ban, and the TCG knew that and hit it. I feel sad because of Heraldic Beasts, which can abuse Avarice easily due to how easy it is to search cards with Leo and swarm with cards like Kagetokage. ~British Soul~
Will I miss Avarice? Probably not... ok, maybe my Super Avarice from a while back that I traded and would've happily added to my ban folder.
