Stardust Spark Dragon

So yesterday for my birthday I went into my local book store to look for a present to treat myself with and found that they finally had 5D's Volume 5, and the promo card that came with the manga was this guy. Personally, I like him but I wonder as to whether he's better than the original Stardust or not, since the effect pretty much offers the same things, only this also provides protection from battle but is limited to one monster per turn (whereas the original can protect all your monsters in one go from cards like Dark Hole, this guy will only protect one). So who would you rather run, Sparky or the original? Anyway, discuss.

In my deck, I would really run both. Only because Shooting Star Dragon needs Stardust, and who plays the alternative, TG Blade Blaster, any more? XD

 

In any other deck, this guy is better. His effect is pretty dang awesome.

And that's probably one of the things I'm doing for my birthday. XD

The fact of the matter is that there is so much non-destruction card removal that Stardust is largely irrelevant. Sparky protects your wincon from battle destruction as well as effect destruction, so it's more reliable.

Which of the two is better, as has been said, is a format thing. In Inzektor-like formats, OG Stardust wins. In the current one, Spark wins.

But OG Stardust fucking sucks against Inzektors as it only negates the hornet that would kill it anyways.

Then it leaves you open for the OTK or whatever else.

Hence "Inzektor-LIKE". Ie field dominnce by destruction effects.

That's a really bad way to phrase it then, as "Inzektor-Like" is a prime example of when NOT to use OG over Spark.

 

Evne then, Spark will generally be better because it doesn't ditch itself from the field. Not getting OTKd because of it is not exactly uncommon.

The advantage I see to OG Stardust is it actually kills whatever is using the effect. Against things like JD, Scrap Dragon, Jeweled Red etc, I value getting rid of their monster more than keeping my own on board, especially since they'd be bigger.

But why would they actually use those cards when you had Stardust?

 

Baiting, yes, but then it's bait and they don't actually give a damn. Otherwise they'd just run you over, and in all of those cases bar JD, Spark serves just as well as OG Stardust or better.

 

All of the cards you mentioned can run both Stardusts over. While Jeweled Red is bothered by this, Scrap Drag and JD more or less won't give a damn and continue to destroy you.

 

OG's only better in 3 situations. When you have backrow out the ass to answer whatever they can do to bait you/get over OG, and even then that's such a marginal use over Spark it's not worth using. Especially now, considering that Trap Stun is a thing that happens.

 

Vs Mirror Force with a full field that can't protect itself for the OTK. I'd say Dark Hole, but chances are you don't have enough vulnerable cards to GET Dark Holed unless you overextended like fuck.

 

And the other is when you're getting nuked. It's a better answer to Black Rose, but that BRD would be bait. It's a shitty answer to the multi-chaining Beelzebuth, really, though it is marginally better than Spark due to the fact it will come back. If/when we get to a format where both Level 8 Synchros and Beelzebuth are relevant, OG is technically better, yes. Unless everything else in the format leads back to Spark.

 

The battle protection is relevant, too, because it helps Sparkdust stay alive even when OG would just fall flat on its face. IE Blaster swinging at its face.

 

If you have space for both and can drop both, feel free, but next to no deck actually has the space to do that.

Anyone else thought about using this with Safe Zone?


That's a rather amusing idea and would be really annoying to get rid off.

If/when we get to a format where both Level 8 Synchros and Beelzebuth are relevant, OG is better, yes.


After dueling with both, even I find Spark better now. Why would the original be better in that situation?

Because it will actually come back the next turn.

 

You still get nuked, but you remove the Beelzebuth so it's not threatening another nuke later/smacking you in the face later.

 

Sadly, it will still chain to your attempt to negate it, thus blowing up the field before stardust takes it down.

 

Still a shitty answer to Beelzebuth, though.
