The Art of Deck Making

Recommended Posts

Here for you people I will be writing a short guide on the art of deck making, you may comment and/or add your own suggestions if you like.

Staple Cards

The term 'staple card' means that cards that you'll find in most decks and are importnat in play.

Here is a list of staple cards people have in their decks:

Sangan

Cyber Jar

Pot of Greed

Breaker the Magical Warrior

Sinister Serpent

Morphing Jar

Premature Burial

Snatch Seal

Lightning Vortex

Brain Control

Call of the Haunted

Ring of Destruction

Deck Making

1. Try to keep your deck as close to 40 cards as possible. The less cards you have in your deck, the more often you will get what you want.

2. Play with what you like. If something works well for you, but someone else says you should use what they use, use whatever you like more. It's your deck. You should like it.

3. There is no perfect deck. Every deck has a weakness. If you can't seem to beat someone in this game, find their weakness and exploit it.

4. You are NOT required to use any of the cards I called "staples." Granted, they may be very helpful and powerful, but you can build a decent deck without them.

5. Keep your deck balanced. This is probably one of the most important ideas. You should probably have 1/3 to 3/5 of your deck as monsters, and the rest spells and traps. As always, there are exceptions to this rule, but this is true for most decks. If your deck is a little out of the ordinary, go ahead and mess with the balance.

6. Have fun! You should never be angry at your deck. There is no one deck that is the best.

7. Put your own heart into your decks, if you like a cards effect USE IT.

And thats all I have to say, if you want to say anyting please do. 8)

this is usefully my decks pretty well balancd with 20 monsters 10 spells 10 traps :?:

i only got 1 staple i think =s lighting vortex

most deck im seeing at the moment are set out lyk this if they av 40 cards in. monsters 16 - 18, spells 16 - 18, traps 6 - 8. so i think spell cancler / horus lv8 should be fitted into decks when possible.

Well, you and your opponent should agree which cards are forbidden and which aren't before a non-tourny duel.

Most of the time people go by the advanced format in casual duels so they can train their decks for an upcoming tourny.

Sangan - Fair enough

Cyber Jar - Banned.. Staple? Hardly.

Pot of Greed -Banned.

Breaker the Magical Warrior- Banned

Sinister Serpent -Nice! But banned.

Morphing Jar - In a select few decks.

Premature Burial - Agreed.

Snatch Seal - Of course.

Lightning Vortex - Laugh at you. In DDT this is acceptable. Elsewhere? Nay.

Brain Control -Staple? No no. In monarchs, yes it is needed.

Call of the Haunted- In most decks.

Ring of Destruction - Yep

Graceful Charity- Banned

Heavy Storm- Naturally

Mystical Space Typhoon- see above

Magic Cylinder- Not a staple at all, in burn and if you dont own a mirror force fine.

Mirror Force- Not even, in generic decks its helpful but many successful decks dont utilize it.

D.D. Warrior Lady- not a staple, but handy.

Tribe-Infecting Virus -WHAT.THE.HELL.

Delinquent Duo- Straight up epitome of banned.

Nobleman of Crossout- I will not argue against this.

Torrential Tribute- Not a staple, field disruption and with wildheart yes.

Reckless Greed- I may not agree with what you say, but I will heartily discourage your right to say it.

Magician of Faith- One of the best cards in the game. It is of course, banned.

Marshmallon- Yeah... About that.

Jinzo- BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

Sasuke Samurai-Why do you hurt me so?

Card Destruction-See morphing jar.

Scapegoat-One of the closest things to a staple on this list.

Smashing Ground- Fair enough.

Creature Swap- In a GOOD deck you dont need to swap your monsters for your opponent's, what you have on the field should be WHAT YOU WANT. Of course with morphing jar in a darkworld deck not all that bad.

Dust Tornado- Never.

Ceasefire-Staple?no. Good? Yes.

Raigeki Break- I'd be lying if I didn't suspect you were mentally impaired at the time you wrote this.

You also seem to be missing an obscene amount of cards from here. As mentioned above, cyber dragon is found in nearly every deck, whether it makes sense or not. If you have mirror force here Sak armor too should be listed. And what with all these banned cards, where is Raigeki and the infamous duster.

Whats wrong with Raigeki Break is that it requires a discard to start with, its a trap so its slow. If you want to destroy a monster with it, there are plenty of other cards that do the same job without a discard, and its the same with Spells and Traps, but if your opponent chains their S/T, you just wasted 1 trap, and 1 card fropm your hand.

Cyber Dragon on the other hand is a very good card, especially for aggro decks to push for damage or monster destruction.
