I believe the way to counter this is to give them more hand traps. Allowing the deck to function similarly if they had some sort of back row. This can potentially allow the deck to become a Monster Mash variant which is pretty cool Amethyst Crystal Core [EARTH / Rock / Effect / Level 1] You can only use 1 "Amethyst Crystal Core" effect per turn, and only once that turn. During either player's turn, you can activate one of the following effects: ● Send this card from your hand to the Graveyard to target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field and destroy that target. You must have 1 or more "Crystal Beast" cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone to activate and resolve this effect. ● Banish this face-up card or in your Graveyard to target 1 "Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat" in your Spell & Trap Card Zone, and Special Summon it [ATK: 0 / DEF: 0] Sapphire Crystal Core [WIND / Rock / Effect / Level 1] You can only use 1 "Sapphire Crystal Core" effect per turn, and only once that turn. During either player's turn, you can activate one of the following effects: ● Send this card from your hand to the Graveyard to add 1 Field Spell Card from your Deck to your hand. During either player's turn, you can activate one of the following effects: ● Send this card from your hand to the Graveyard to target 1 Effect Monster your opponent controls. Its effects are negated, and change its Battle Position to face-up Defense Position. You must have 1 or more "Crystal Beast" cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone to activate and resolve this effect. ● Banish this face-up card or in your Graveyard to target 1 "Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise" in your Spell & Trap Card Zone, and Special Summon it [ATK: 0 / DEF: 0] Ruby Crystal Core [LIGHT / Rock / Effect / Level 1] You can only use 1 "Ruby Crystal Core" effect per turn, and only once that turn. During either player's turn, you can activate one of the following effects: ● Send this card from your hand to the Graveyard to shuffle all face-up "Crystal Beast" cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone into the Deck(s), then for each card shuffled, place 1 "Crystal Beast" monster from your hand, Deck or Graveyard face-up in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell Card. ● Banish this face-up card or in your Graveyard to target 1 "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" in your Spell & Trap Card Zone, and Special Summon it [ATK: 0 / DEF: 0] Crystal Bonds [Normal Spell] Send 1 "Crystal Beast" monster from your Deck to your Graveyard, then add 1 "Crystal Core" monster from your Deck to your hand with the same Attribute as that sent monster. Crystal Excavation [Normal Spell] Shuffle 2 "Crystal Core" monsters in your Graveyard into your Deck, then add 1 "Crystal" Spell/Trap Card from your Deck to your hand. You must have 2 or more "Crystal Beast" cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone to activate and resolve this effect. You can only activate 1 "Crystal Excavation" per turn. Crystalcarnation [Normal Trap] Target 1 of your banished "Crystal Core" or "Crystal Beast" monsters and Special Summon it in face-up Defense Position.
