Captain Murphy ☆
I was feeling very uncreative with this so I apologize in advance if its stupid. I'm new to Xyz monsters too. [spoiler=Lore] 3 Level 4 monsters When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: This card gains ATK equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard. During each of your opponent's Standby Phases, discard 2 cards or destroy this card. [/spoiler] What do you think of it?
-DG-
It seems balanced; it only gains ATK so it can be popped relatively easy, but when you end up with a 4k+ beater, that's a good thing. I like.
Captain Murphy ☆
Thanks. Now that I think about it I'm not really sure if this card is balanced or not. I meant for the ATK bonus to go away after the opponents turn.
Y0SH1_M4S73R
This card seems very unbalanced as is. Here are some issues with the card that I see. 1) Excessive power growth. "When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: This card gains ATK equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard." When it destroys a monster, it gains half that monster's original ATK. Without a duration clause, this card can get insanely powerful, insanely fast. However... I meant for the ATK bonus to go away after the opponents turn. To solve that, you would add a "Until your opponent's next End Phase," clause to the ATK bonus effect. 2) Dangerous synergy with existing cards. "During each of your opponent's Standby Phases, discard 2 cards or destroy this card." Put this in a Dark World deck, and it becomes the deck's win condition. This could be fixed by changing the discard to a generic send to Graveyard, since there is a difference between the two. Another alternative to discarding comes in the form of the solution to the next problem... 3) No effect with a detach Xyz Material cost. Most Xyz monsters have an effect that is activated by detaching an Xyz Material. IIRC, there are only 3 cards that don't detach Xyz Materials, and two of those monsters don't even have effects. There are two places in the card's lore where it would be logical to detach an Xyz Material. ●"When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: [You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card;] This card gains ATK equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard." ●"During each of your opponent's Standby Phases, discard 2 cards [detach 1 Xyz Material from this card] or destroy this card." So there's my two cents. What follows are a couple of alternative lores. ●Detach to temporarily gain ATK, generic send cost during opponent's StandbyDetach to temporarily gain ATK, generic send cost during opponent's Standby 3 Level 4 monsters When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: [You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Until your opponent's next End Phase,] This card gains ATK equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard. During each of your opponent's Standby Phases, [send 2 cards from your hand to the Graveyard] or destroy this card. ●Detach to avoid destruction during opponent's Standby, temporary ATK gain occurs at no cost 3 Level 4 monsters When this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: [Until your opponent's next End Phase,] This card gains ATK equal to half the original ATK of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard. DARKPLANT RISING
Well, I haven't played the game for over an year, but at least judging from what I knew of the game, right now - it's a bit underpowered. Underpowered as in, there are better RANK 4 options and nobody will use this over them.3x4 is a quite heavy cost, and though this thing's bulk is quite nice, the drawback (discarding 2 cards as a cost) completely kills it. This card requires some hand to summon on its own, and chances are you don't have much resources left after you manage to chug it out.The tremendous ATK growth is fine - this is because otherwise there's no reason to run this over all the other good RANK 4 options. Back when I played competitive, there were many good RANK 4s already. And though one passing year might give birth to a better cardpool, it will never ever give birth to a worse cardpool; even judging from what I saw an year ago this is UP'ed right now, so it definitely needs fixing.Since this card is an Xyz after all, Yoshi's above idea of making the cost "1 Xyz Material" seems like a nice alternative for the 2 discards. But I don't feel the ATK increase should be until the End Phase. It can stay. This can grow like hell. And it'll be both fun and perfectly balanced.Remember, trying to balance out cards is fine, but if it then turns out to be unusable in any deck, that's utterly pointless. Being just a bit OP, usable but not game-breaking, is the best way to go.
Raymond Grover
Imagine the threat this card would have against any monster when used with honest(it is a light type so talk about a major boost that turn), but to me it is balanced enough, it has a benefit and a drawback, you cannot keep discarding forever, you ave to support it with other cards cuz its quite vulnerable, so all the opponent would have to do is play swords of revealing light and this card becomes a huge liability

If I wanted a beater that was Rank 4, I'd summon Gem-Knight Pearl over this any time of the week. And no, the ATK boost isn't good enough to warrant Summoning this over Gem-Knight Pearl, or if you want to waste 3 Level 4's for a beater, Gagagigo the Risen. The card is underpowered...nah, worthless and needs a total rewamp if it were to be viable, at all.
