Tentacruel
So over the past month or so there's been a ton of nonsense going down with the possible corruption and the rape threats and all the nonsense. This extends far past just video games, so it's going in General. My personal thoughts is that people are trying too hard to draw lines and form sides, when it's never that simple. You've got people like this. http://dangolding.tumblr.com/post/95985875943/the-end-of-gamers, who are in my mind just as problematic as the forum trolls, and then you've got the forum trolls who are just as problematic as people like that guy. It's very easy to throw out a straw man to justify your own feelings, and that seems very very common as of late. It all feels like fighting fire with fire. Discuss. Cin
People nowadays appear more vicious than they have before because of the connected world we live in, makes it easier to verbally attack people in a way that is really threatening. I suppose it's the deep history of sexism that means most of it is against Women, that or people believe Women are more like to react/get upset compared to Men. I think people are just naive or just stuck in there own ways.
Agro
The overall problem is that people APPARENTLY don't know the line between discussion, argument, and abuse.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
Too many people take someone having a different opinion as something like "You're just arguing and that means you are angry at me." Even if I preface an opinion with basically "I understand your side of it, but this is just what I think." it happens. I don't want to say people are too sensitive but...sometimes they are. I've been guilty of it myself so I can't blame them, but having an opposite idea on something doesn't make you enemies. But people often take it way too far. An example recently of something extremely simple. Game Grumps choices in games. Just a topic as simple and, honestly unimportant, as that generates so much hate and arguing. One person says they want more of this other game, some agree, others attack them for daring to want something different from what they want. It's out of hand. Legend Zero
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgW5NRUfs44Is what is currently going around. My take is, one should never harass anyone. One should also not sweep away legitimate points (from both sides) because of extremists. It is good to get information out there about corruption, but no need to force change through accusations. Get the word out and let the corrupted sites die.
Tentacruel
Eh, I realize corruption is something that should be scrutinized, but going to those lengths is a bit much. Frankly, I do not care who anyone slept with. The fact that all of the people are associates is enough. Honestly, misogyny shouldn't even be a related issue, but alas it is. What I'm complaining about is that people will just write off people as creeps, misogynists or femenazis so they can paint themselves as the "good side" in a manner of speaking. This. Was also said in the first post. Drawing lines is bad.
