question with Swordsman of Revealing Light's effect

When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, then if this card's DEF is higher than the attacking monster's ATK, destroy that attacking monster. An Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect.
● Once per turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle.

lets say i have a wall on my side and my opponent has a direct attacker with lets say 1000 atk,i have swordsman in my hand and he attacks i use swordsman's effect to bring it out

question is:

can he kill it or is it during open direct attacks only?

and can i only use it once while he's out or is it still applyed?

If Swordsman is Summoned by his own effect, he can destroy the attacking monster (if the ATK is lower than its DEF). It doesn't matter if you had monsters out, just so long as the attack was a direct attack.

 

It's only applied at the time it is Special Summoned. Future attacks will not activate the destruction effect.
