[27/?] Charmer Support / Revamp [mostly written, some pictures]

Yes, I am aware that some of the Spiritual Arts are bordering on ridiculous /upon first read/. However, I feel their actual brokenness warrants playtesting ... I dunno. I am honestly more afraid of their abuse by other decks. This has been an effort to make the Charmers playable in this day and age of Qliphort, Burning Abyss, Necloth, and what have you. I'm not sure it succeeded but I tried.

A rather concerted campaign was made to reduce consistency by deck-searching. It should be noted however that this card exists and was singlehandedly the reason for me writing up all these.

Pictures to come soon™. Possibly never as I am very lazy.

I guess I should have something down here too, eh.
Arcanite is the most notable. Familiar Essence is a 1-card Arcanite Magician, and it is much more effective than simply blindly summoning Four Sages (which is much better if your board is more developed and / or you can take advantage of it with other cards).
Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan is instantly live with Four Sages on board.
Otherwise, generic Spellcaster support is moderately effective. Miracle Synchro Fusion into Supreme Arcanite comes to mind.
Of course the original Spiritual Art cards are good too; probably Aoi and Miyabi are the best ones since they are free if you manage to either have the right baby Charmer or have a Field and any baby Charmer out. Maintaining field advantage can be difficult, however. Greed and Hijiri are designed to be used with Dharc and Lyna, and in fact Greed is a straight up +1 if those conditions are fulfilled.
Charmers...... It's been a while. Last time I saw these was in October when someone ran these with Clear World for a hilarious Stun Deck. The problem with Charmers is that they are all of different attributes, which really clogs down the synergy. However, Magical Mallet and Reload are cards. This attempts to fix some of the main problems, and so far I dig the approach:

From the monsters, it seems like there's a solid engine going that is esque of Monarchs with their effects. These effects not only provide some neat disruption that goes for the traditional Charmer fashion of attribute power, but a few also gives various support to other Decks. Hiita's first form would be a decent side card in Volcanics, disrupting Decks like BA that constant use their Graveyard. Eria provides a solid draw engine and makes that Fortune Lady D Ruler Deck sound viable again. Lyna is almost a LIGHT Diamond Dude while her upgrade leaves room for some decent negation and devastating banishing that also lets you fill up your Graveyard, which in Lightsworns makes good for your Diablos plays, banish Lyna, then shut everything down. As a TeleDAD/MaskeDAD player, Dharc would be a staple in my Deck, allowing you continue your Rank 4 plays while turning your dead cards into extra draws for a second Plaguespreader bounce after Lavalval Chain sends it to the Grave, resulting in a satisfying Double Void Ogre play that'll wreck Nekroz. Cards like Wynn and Aussa tend to go more for the Charmer Deck itself, which fantastically make the Deck an actual thing outside of Familiars Released.

The Synchros are fantastic, and I can imagine the plays already. The Level 10 is just bonkers, but considering what it would take to get it out, is a card that has a good price to it. Speaking of which, that tuner is just so flexible, and leaves so many opportunities and combos. Unfortunately, in the long run, outside of Gathering they seem a bit slow to get out since you only get 1 Normal Summon. It's the same thing that Monarchs run into where you only get 1 effect per turn when your up against a field of monsters, etc.

As for the Spirirual Art spells, it's obvious there will be some crazy things going on. In particular, you have to be worried about Qlis because, as we all know, they get effects when tributed. As a result, I'm not quite sure how I feel about Rakasetsu. However, the rest seem fine, as the Decks they could go in either wouldn't care to have them or actually need them. For the Charmers, it works well, and especially in the coming format where the Nekroz Armor of Trishula is a live threat. You want to be able to empty something so that your opponent won't be banishing your cards anytime soon. Sometimes that has to be your field, and the Quick Plays help you do that while still retaining your advantage. Haven is rather hilarious in that it promotes the Synchros while netting you some advantage that at any time can turn into Elemental Burst. I'm amused by this idea.

The last thing I'll mention is that Gathering makes this Deck go round, especially them Synchros. It becomes tough at times to get the whole field together, especially against Qlis and Nekroz where you can be hit with a big field at any moment, and I think that about fixes that.

Overall, you seemed to have reached your goals with Charmers becoming something. Tier 1? Probably not. Tier 2 and being several splashable engines lower tier Decks would die for? Absolutely

Thank you very much for the review! Many of the points were deliberate design decisions, which I'm glad you picked up on =D but some of the ideas are new even for me! I quite like the ideas you raised and don't feel it would unduly imbalance the cards to widen the allowance for the big Charmers to any appropriately-attributed Spellcaster, so that all those cool plays are enabled. Rakusetsu used to be a lot worse than it currently is (and Meisha ... questionably better?) as all Twinned Spiritual Arts were Normal Spells, but a friend convinced me to buff it by quite a bit. I will bring the concern with Qlis to my friend and see what he says on the matter, as I am also quite interested ...

The deck is indeed designed to win with Gathering. Early on in the design process I talked to my friend with the four elemental Charmers and their upgrades, and he was like "... you need a Madolchepalooza." and I was like "whoa you're totally right!" and that's how it happened. Originally Haven was slated to give an extra Normal Summon, but my friend cautioned against it as it would turn into a card that opened many gates to utter devastation; he's honestly probably right.

Twin Stars is designed to be Essence + buffed level + big Charmer; thus it's a bit harder to summon than its compatriots (which are 1-card plays) but not actually too hard. The speed of deployment really gets in the deck's way in pushing.

Twinned Spiritual Arts are designed to crush set-up fields, while Triplicate Spiritual Arts are just a marker for "am I winning? do I need some disruption? how much am I willing to pay for that". Kudos to my friend for suggesting the amplification of effects from tributing more monsters - that was truly a brilliant stroke. Of course design intent doesn't always work out, etc.

ANYWAY tl;dr buffed big Charmers to support appropriately-Attributed decks a bit better. Very interesting interactions you mentioned with Fortune Lady DRuler and Lightsworn in particular; I like this very much. Eye-opening review 10/10 would read again.

Bumping this thread because further C&C is always welcome. I haven't forgotten about this eclectic collection of monsters, and would like for these to function to a lesser extent in single-/dual-Attribute-focused archetypes. For now though I'm waiting for the last member (at least) of the big familiars to be released in the actual card game.

Also I did ninja-edit quite a few card text changes / cleanups to better reflect design intent. So it warrants an update! Kind of?!
