What everyone MUST know about images.

Recommended Posts

This is not only for the producer, but also for the consumer.

Whether you're buying or making, you need to know the basics.

There are 3 KEY things to a banner.

1. Text.

2. Empty Space.

3. Render.

This is for the finished example. This is NOT a template on making a banner from scratch. When ordering a banner, take into consideration that if there is too much text, then it's going to look REALLY crappy. You have to have open space to give the banner a flow, and to make it not feel too cramped. For an example, see my signature. The text is in the upper left, the render takes up a good chunk of the right, and there's a nice space in the bottom left to give the banner a nice feel.

You also need to consider color schemes. If you don't know what those are, google them. If you're asking for specific colors with a render that won't go well with them, the banner will look like bloody bull****, no matter how skilled the artist is.

Text. There can only be so much text in a banner. The fewer words, the better, but you USUALLY want to have at least a little bit of text.

Render. Don't give someone a JPG and expect them to use it. JPG images are not rendered. PNG images are. If you don't have a render, give them a picture if they offer to cut it. If not, find someone who will, because that person probably sucks anyway. If you can't cut an image, you can't make a good final product, and that's a fact. HOWEVER. Asking for someone to cut a giant image (EX:A full-scale C4D) is just plain stupid, and that's your fault.

Get it? Be reasonable with your requests. Seriously.

EDIT: This probably helped some newbies with placement as well. Hooray for you.
