Well, those two girls are being tried as adults.
Forest Fire
Is it ever mentioned as to why this is being done? Cause I'm sure there has to be a good reason.

Cirrus
There's enough evidence to point to the fact that they knew what they were doing and that the entire Slender Man thing isn't the true motive behind it, from what the article states That didn't seem to be what the article said; although its spirit is similar (actively malicious intent vs self-defense). Instead... They contended second-degree attempted intentional homicide would be a more fitting charge because the girls, as misguided as they were, thought they were defending themselves and their loved ones from Slender Man by attacking Leutner. Second-degree attempted intentional homicide is a lesser crime that prosecutors would have to pursue in juvenile court. [...] After delivering a half-an-hour analysis Friday of statutes governing homicide charges and potential defenses, Bohren rejected the self-defense claims. He noted that the girls also thought killing Leutner would make them Slender Man’s servants, earn them the right to live in his mansion and prove to others the creature was real. Those motivations outweigh self-defense, he said. Emphasis mine. The defense to attempt to move it into juvenile court didn't function. The reason for their being tried in adult court is also clearly in the article; "Both girls face a count of being a party to attempted first-degree intentional homicide, which automatically places them in adult court under Wisconsin law." Of course the defense attorneys are going to try to reduce the charge, and this is one such attempt that didn't fly. Seems like the legal system is doing what the legal system is supposed to do, at least as much as can be gleaned from the article. Everything is proceeding reasonably. Tentacruel
That's the state law I guess. I do completely disagree with that law though.
Cool Girl
I've read this story before! While I do agree that these girls have commited a huge crime, I also think that they should get mental help. If you send them in jail and that's it and they do their time, they might not learn much from what they've did. I'm so happy that the victim is recovering. A part of me also feels sorry for these girls because instead of enjoying life, they have to spend their lives in jail! But, yeah, I hope they learn their lessons and I hope that victim is diong okay!

Cin
Going to a prison is probably a very bad idea, as it can potentially expose them to far more dangerous influences and I'd say at that age could potential end up in more trouble especially has prison can be scary at any age, if you don't quickly work out how it works inside. They require mental health help, but it could be more that they've lost the difference between reality and 'fantasy'.
Peridank
The fact you quoted fantasy Is what gets me...

That's called "psychosis" and still requires mental health help.
