Volcanic Grenade

LV3 FIRE

[Pyro/Effect]

If this card is sent to the Graveyard by the effect of a "Blaze Accelerator" card: Target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it. You can shuffle 2 "Volcanic" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck; add this card from your Graveyard to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Volcanic Grenade" once per turn.

I think I've seen a similar card somewhere but the thread's lost to time. Anyway, the design concept starts with something that allows Volcanics to hit backrow. A (costly) alternate effect also helps retrieve it in case the need actually arises.

Interesting: however, this card can't pop Macro Cosmos, which is a big issue for Volcanics. In addition, I would much rather run MST. It is also extremely hard to recycle, especially when you want your Volcanics in the Grave for Guards. It would need a major buff for it to be usable.

Right now Volcanics are a little dry on their decent monster lineup if they want to pitch stuff to Blaze Accelerator Reload, and 3 MST can only go so far.

 

I do agree that the recycling effect is very difficult to use, though, but I'm a little hard-pressed to work out a suitable additional effect for it. What would you suggest?

Right now, I feel like 3 Shell, 3 Scattershot, and 3 Rocket is more than enough ammo for reload at this time.

You could change the effect to shuffling 1-2 "Volcanic" monsters in your Graveyard into the Deck, making it a pseudo Pot of Avarice of sorts. This would be much more beneficial to the archetype in general, and would make recycling it actually worth it. Lastly, adding a hard OPT on its effects wouldn't hurt.

Well, once you got Reload on board, Rocket immediately loses about 70% of its utility. I would much rather ditch Rocket and Summon Guards.

Now the card is immensely more useful; however, it still can't beat MST when it comes to versatility, which I would much rather run for mitigating CotH, Qliphort Scout, Mount Sylvania, etc. Considering that its a "Grenade", I would suggest making it destroy 2 cards instead of 1, signifying an AoE. This way, it has a bigger range than MST, and you can pop your own Reload to use it from the Grave, if it comes down to it.

The recycle effect is in no way costly. Scattershot pitches all 3 copies of itself and Shell searches itself so you can pitch it. You WANT to recycle and once this card has used its 2nd effect it's immediate Accelerator food. Making it pop 2 S/Ts would be overkill. This card is amazing for Volcanics against backrow-heavy Decks... but the best Deck isn't backrow-heavy at the moment so this card loses some utility. Still really good tho.

I mean, you can always add this back to hand when you have 3 shell in grave, put 2 back and then pay 500 to add one of them. Not bad by any means.

 

the only thing this can conflict with is Firestorm Guards. Besides that, pretty cool card, and a nice way to in theme recycle your important monsters, when you don't have RFG
