Evilswarm Ouroboros [And 3-Mat Value]

The more I play seraphs, the more I understand the value of 3-Mats. Sure, I played Hunder, but I never truly valued these cards correctly, even with the ease I coud make them. The value is a lot different, actually, which is something I learned from Ptolemaus and

Ouroboros is a card I actually thought was quite mediocre. The hand hit was nice, but 3-mats for a bounce or a banish? It never felt worth it, especially after Crazy Box (and DRXD later, both due to EEV) and Rhapsody came out. Sure, they weren't as versatile, but they were cheaper. Seraphs actually showed me otherwise; I'd definitely call it mediocre in general, but being able to make it with cards designed to pump out 3-mats makes it shine. Especially seraphs.

I'd actually say this is the best Seraph boss, if only because of versatility (and the hand hit wins games), though Delteros is safer. It's actually neat when you think about the value of 3-mats with Seraphs and which they warrant.

For example, think about it like this:
  • Delteros gives you a safe Seraph 3-Mat, if it wasn't stopped beforehand. This means that you can resolve your Scepter in peace, which can put you ahead in the gamestate, then pop another card. Maybe spam more, if your opp has advantage and you have CotH/Norden.
  • Ouroboros offers you a lot of versatile power; It can finish off the opp's han resources, remove a major card from the Graveyard, or bounce a card like Beelze (argument's sake) back to the ED.  And if it stays on the board after its first effect, it can be used as weaker removal with that bounce as its second. It offers a lot of versatility in addition to its scepter pop, but it's not as safe as Delteros.
  • Amaterasu (clowns, random shit) offers you a 2600 that baits out removal/negation. Because she can activate as a Quick Effect, you can use her just to sniff out the problem cards the opp has, then use her effect in response to them to get a banished monster/Damajuggler back. And that's only if she actually baits the opp, as that's a worse case scenario, just one where she's guaranteed to get you at least some of your advantage back, which advances your game, unlike Delteros/Ouroboros who break down the opponent's game. This makes her more effective at actually going for game, as opposed to just cornering the opponent.
  • Ptolemaus into Cyber Dragon Infinity would serve a similar purpose to Amaterasu. Remove/bait out cards, respond, become Nova, get value. But. that's not TCG and won't be for a good while. However, Ptolemaus can also go into cards like Zenmaioh for this purpose... But that's redundant in most matchups. Delteros does the job almost infinitely better, despite the 1 extra destruction Zenmaioh offers, and has more protection in the process for fewer ED slots. So Ptolemaus -> Infinity is surely worth it, but Ptolemaus -> Zenmaioh is not.
  • Illumiknight advances your gamestate like Amaterasu, but... there's no safety net. He's not the biggest, he doesn't advance you AS much in most situations, and he has no protection. Sure, with cards like Damajuggler/Tricklown he can advance you a fair amount, but I rarely had a time that I felt he advanced me the amount I needed him to, and he's only likely to get 1 usage. Not due to dying, due to needing certain cards in hand to merit him. He has theoretical value, but very little in practice, especially considering he makes you free fall like Ouroboros does. So compare him to Ouroboros.
  • Masquerade... IDK haven't actually tested it, it seems like a niche card to use, although a very strong niche card.
Just an interesting thing to think about; What do the good ones have in common? A safety net for two of them... and sheer force for the third. Technically, Infinity counts as a small safety net followed by a weak window and then a lot of power, but, again, not TCG for the forseeable future. There's a clear trend for which are worth it, and while I did realize which they were in building, I hadn't refined the thought process until recently.
